Weekly Bible Verse: Daniel went to his room three times a day to pray. He got down on his knees and gave thanks to his God. Daniel 6:10 Bible Point: Daniel is loyal to God, and God protects him. I can be loyal to God. Coloring Page: Daniel and the Lions Den Resource: The Story for Little Ones, Chapter 18: Ask God for Help you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Video Time - Daniel and the Lion s Den What You Need: Veggie Tales Video Daniel and the Lion s Den. What You Do: Gather the children together onto the carpet and watch the video clip of, Daniel and the Lion s Den. What You Say: That was such a fun video to watch. However, do you think it was easy for Daniel to do the right thing knowing he might get thrown in a pit with mean, hungry lions? (Pause.) No way! That had to be VERY hard to do. Lions are scary! They can eat you up! I bet Daniel was afraid of the lions, but he did the right thing, even when it wasn t easy. God wants you to do the right thing, too, even when it s not easy. Who wants you to do the right thing? God wants me to do the right thing.

Animal Fun What You Need: Play-Doh, rolling pins, and animal cookie cutters. What You Do: Show the children how to roll the Play-Doh out flat and then allow them to choose one animal cookie cutter from the basket (the teacher should keep the lion separate and make it for themselves). Once all the different animals have been made, talk about all the different animals that everyone has. What You Say: At the start of the activity: When I call your name, I want you to come and choose one cookie cutter animal shape from the basket. During the activity: Let s go around the table and you can all show the different kinds of animals we made today. Can you tell me what sound your animal makes? Wow, you are all so good at making and naming your animal friend s sounds. Would you like to meet my friend? He is a lion. Do you know what sound Lions make? Our Bible story today had some REAL lions in it. They were not soft and cuddly like my Mr. Lion. They are mean and hungry lions. Do you remember what happened?

Jump on It! What You Need: Two black poster boards, four yellow poster boards, scissors, a black marker, and masking tape. What You Do: Before the activity: Cut out four large yellow circles. Draw a big happy face on each yellow circle. Cut four medium black circles. You can cut two circles from each piece of black poster board. Tape the circles in a long row on the floor, beginning with a black circle and then alternating yellow and black. During the activity: The children will take turns jumping over the black circles, which symbolize a lion s den, and onto the happy faces. Each time they land on a happy face, they will say one part of the memory verse. Don t fall in a lion s den! What You Say: At the start of the activity: Raise your hand if you think you re a good jumper. I ve seen you all jump. I know you re good jumpers! That s a good thing, because to play this game you have to jump! See the yellow happy faces? You can only jump on the yellow happy faces. Got it? Each time you jump, I want you to say one part of our memory verse. If anyone needs help with the verse, we can all say it together. But, if you land on the black circles, that means you fall into a lion s den. We don t want to do that! Okay, here we go! During the activity: For I Know Part 1 The Plans Part 2 I have for you Part 3 Declares the Lord Part 4 At the end of the activity: That was a fun game, and you all were so great at jumping and it sounded really loud and fun. In our story today, the lions were quiet and gentle with Daniel. They didn't hurt him. Are lions always quiet and gentle? (Pause.) NO! They are definitely not always quiet and gentle. God made the lions be nice to Daniel. He protected Daniel because Daniel made the right choice. God wants us to make good choices too. He helps us when we do, just like He helped Daniel. What does God want you to do? God wants me to do the right thing!

Don t Keep the Lion - Hot Potato What You Need: A stuffed lion toy. What You Do: Have the children sit in a circle. Tell them that this game is played like Hot Potato. Show them the lion and tell them that they will pass the lion around the circle until the music stops. When the music stops, the child holding the lion will stand and answer a question about this week s Bible Story. Play as many rounds as time permits. Feel free to ask the same questions more than once. What You Say: That was a fun game, and you all played so nice. In our story today, the lions were quiet, gentle and nice with Daniel.

Safari Sticker Sheets What You Need: Safari stickers and Sticker Sheet. What You Do: Help the children make their Safari Sticker Sheets. What You Say: What awesome safari pictures you all made! I hope when you look at the lion you remember to be strong like Daniel and trust in God to do the right thing. In our story today, do you think it was easy for Daniel to do the right thing. No way!
