DETROIT LIONS GAME NOTES WEEK 12 VS MINNESOTA VIKINGS Statistical information derived from the following resources: Detroit Lions Archives, NFL GSIS, Elias Sports Bureau, SportRadar, Stats, LLC and Profootballreference.com. LIONS 78TH THANKSGIVING DAY GAME The Detroit Lions host the Minnesota Vikings in the Lions 78th Thanksgiving Day Game. In a tradition that dates back to 1934, the Lions have played the Vikings four other times, with the last meeting occurring in 2016 when the Lions won 16-13. Detroit is 37-38-2 all-time on Thanksgiving Day, including wins in each of the past four seasons. The Lions claimed victory against Minnesota in the past two matchups on Thanksgiving, including 2016 and 1995 in a 44-38 win. This year marks the first time since 1979-80 (Chicago) that the Lions have hosted the same team on Thanksgiving in back-toback seasons. The last time the Lions defeated the same team on Thanksgiving in back-to-back seasons occurred in 1957-58 against the Green Bay Packers. THANKSGIVING DAY FEAST The Lions seek the club s fifth-straight win on Thanksgiving dating back to a 40-10 victory over Green Bay in 2013. Detroit can win on Thanksgiving for five consecutive seasons for the first time since winning six-straight from 1950-55. This would represent the franchise s second-longest winning streak on Thanksgiving besides the streak from 1950-55. Lions Leaders, Longest Win Streaks on Thanksgiving Rk Years G 1 1950-55 6 2t 1997-2000 4 2t 2013-4 Head Coach Jim Caldwell can join Buddy Parker as the only Lions head coaches to lead teams to four-straight wins on Thanksgiving. Under Caldwell, the Lions are 3-0 dating back to 2014. Parker won his first five Thanksgiving Day games from 1951-55. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Detroit can produce the third five-game winning streak on Thanksgiving Day in NFL history. Along with Detroit s six wins in a row from 1950-55, Dallas won six in a row from 1980-85. Parker achieved this in each of his first four seasons (7 in 1951; 8in 1952; 9 in 1953; 8 in 1954). IN THE NFC NORTH A victory vs. Minnesota would move the Lions record in the NFC North to 4-0 for the second time under Caldwell. The Lions also started 4-0 in the division during Caldwell s first season (2014) with the Lions. A win over Minnesota would improve the team s record vs. the Vikings under Caldwell to 6-2 and 3-1 at Ford Field. The Lions can improve the club s divisional record under Caldwell to 15-7 (.682) by defeating the Vikings. Detroit s current record of 14-7 vs. the NFC North since 2014 ties for the seventh-best mark over the past four seasons.
