EIU once again had a stellar third qarter performance ot shooting the Prple Aces 21-9 in the third period. The win at UE marks the first time since the 2011-12 season that EIU has started the season 2-0. LEADING THE PACK Following Monday s game, the Panthers lead the nation shooting 58.4 percent from the field on the season. After a slow start at Evansville EIU shot 66.7 percent in the second half to cement the comeback victory. In EIU s opener against Millikin the Panthers shot 65.6 percent for the game. Erica Brown and Allsion Van Dyke are among the top-five shooters in the OVC holding the nmber two and for spots respectively. Brown is shooting 75 percent so far this seaosn while Van Dyke has a 66.7 percent field goal percentage. RIDING THE PINE The Panthers have been displaying their depth in the first two games of the season getting high qality performances from their bench players. So far this season the EIU bench has otscored its opponents 64-21 while otrebonding other teams 31-13. Halle Stll has come off the bench to earn 21 points and 11 rebonds throghot the first two games of the season. Brittin Boyer, Jennifer Nehls, and Stll have all scored in doble figres in at least one of the early season games. Danielle Berry crrently leads the team and is second in the OVC with six steals on the season coming off the bench. Black was hired May 16, 2013 to take over the program following a long career as an assistant coach, most recently at Ohio State. While with the Bckeyes program Black helped coach the team to seven straight NCAA Tornament appearances inclding six Big Ten Conference Championships. Black has been part of 34 winning basketball seasons both as a player and a coach. She began her playing career at Saint Joseph s University helping the Hawks make for straight NCAA Tornament appearances. After gradation in 1988, she played professionally overseas in Tasmania (1989-96). She played in the WNBA from 1999-2005 earning WNBA Defensive Player of the Year honors. Nicknamed The Pest Black is the only women s professional player to record a qadrple doble with 10 points, 14 rebonds, 12 assists and 10 steals in a game. Black s career record is 25-61, 16-32 in OVC games. LAST TIME OUT The Panthers overcame a first half deficit to come back and defeat Evansville 73-63 Monday evening. Allison Van Dyke started the comeback with eight points in the third qarter alone as EIU ot shot UE 21-9 in the third period. EIU shot nearly 67 percent in the second half to secre the victory. Grace Lennox led all scorers with 22 points, 13 of which came in the forth qarter. Monday s game marked the second game in a row the Panthers shot 50 percent or better. It also marked back-to-back games with 10 or more steals for EIU. The win snaps a 16-game road loss streak for the Panthers. SCOUTING WRIGHT STATE Wright State comes to Charleston 2-0 on the season after defeating Grace (Ind.) in their most recent game. The Raiders other season win came against fellow OVC foe Tennessee Tech 65-54. Crrently, Wright State has for players averaging at least 10 points a game led by jnior Lexi Smith who averages 18 points and nine rebonds so far this season. Brown is crrently second in the OVC for blocked shots and blocked shots per game with five blocks throghot the first two games of the season. The Hoyleton, Ill. native is crrently fifth all-time at EIU for career blocked shots with 121 blocks in her career. As a team the Panthers have been on fire in the first two games of the season. Apart from leading the nation in field goal percentage, EIU is second in the OVC for scoring margin (+26.5), free throw percentage (.700), three-point field goal percentage (.417), assists (41), and steals (24) throgh the first two games of the season. EIU is also third in the conference in scoring offense and defense averaging 85 points per game while holding opponents to 58.5 points per game so far this season. Grace Lennox nabbed for steals against Evansville to give her five on the season, second on the team to Danielle Berry who recorded six steals in EIU s season opener. Both Berry and Lennox are ranked second and fifth respectively in the OVC. Lennox is all over the OVC standings ranking in the top-10 in mltiple categories.
