MOOSE TAILS O Fallon-Fairview Heights IL Lodge #2608 Loyal Order of Moose The Little Lodge With A Lot Of Moose Heart Volume 9, Issue 5 September - October 2011 WE ARE MOVING Yep, you are reading it correctly. The Lodge is moving all of its activities, meetings, and the Queen of Hearts to the American Legion Post in O Fallon effective September 1 st. We received an offer from them that we couldn t refuse, so here we go! We appreciate all the time the VFW has given us, but we needed to make the move. The address of the Legion is 109 North Penn Street, so it is only six or seven blocks from the V. So as to not interrupt your cravings for our chicken wings, we will be ready to fix them for you on Sept. 1 st at the Legion. We are looking forward to a long and good relationship with our new partner. TONY DODGE RECEIVES FELLOWSHIP DEGREE AT IMA STATE CONVENTION IN ST. LOUIS Tony Dodge became our Lodge's sixth Fellow in a ceremony held August 20 at the Illinois Moose Association's 80th Annual Convention. He was nominated for this honor because of his deep commitment to the Moose fraternity, his Lodge, and his community. Our Lodge's other Fellows are Ron Kozuszek, who now has received the Pilgrim Degree of Honor, Dale Reinhardt, Brad Titze, Wayne Schlosser, and Larry Halcomb. We wish to congratulate Tony on receiving this high honor. WE DID IT ONCE AGAIN!! Allow us to toot our horn a little bit, but once again we were nominated for both Lodge of the Year and Endowment Lodge of the Year. What an honor it is to have people recognize our efforts! Although we did not win Lodge of the Year (Taylorville did), we did manage to take home the Illini Star for the Endowment Lodge of the Year. The criteria for selection of the winner is, the amount per capita of endowment giving to Moose Charities the previous year. We gave a total of $21.84 for each member last year. The second-place Lodge gave $15.06 per capita, and the third-place Lodge gave $8.48 per capita. As you can see we didn't have anyone even close to us. Congratulations to our governor, Jeff Jerashen, for continuing this enviable tradition in our Lodge. Question: Why don t polar bears eat penguins? Answer: Polar bears are only found in the Northern Hemisphere and penguins only in the Southern Hemisphere (except for the ones in Pittsburgh). Never pay dues again REPEAT Never pay dues again! NEVER PAY DUES AGAIN! SPONSOR 2 NEW OR FORMER MEMBERS THIS CAMPAIGN AND YOUR NEXT YEAR S DUES ARE F R E E!! How is this possible? Thanks to Moose International s efforts, a program was started to help gain new members and keep the existing ones that we have. You don t have to do anything except sponsor two new or former members, and you will receive, in the mail, a new card that shows your new dues expiration date. How much easier can that be? This applies to both the men and the women. Get out there and sign up some members and save money! TACOS & ENCHILADAS? SI! Everyone up for some doggone good food? Well, the American Legion cooks up a storm on Tuesdays from 5:30 PM until 8 PM with tacos and enchiladas. Now I haven't had the privilege to try these yet, but I will this coming Tuesday. From what I've been told, they are quite the treat. You're coming up for the Queen of Hearts anyway, so why not have dinner here and indulge your palate. See you there. FALL PUTT AROUND TOWN SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 8 It's that time of the year again for the Fall Putt Around Town. Hopefully, the teams will be forming at establishments around town and sharpening their putting skills. We are sure that some of the holes will be upgraded to provide a little more challenge to the game. We are asking each establishment to provide a scorer to make things go quicker. There will be cash prizes and a traveling trophy will be presented to the winning team's home bar. As usual, we are looking for a good crowd to be on hand that day. BAGS (BEAN BAG, CORNHOLE, ETC.) TOURNAMENT COMING UP Nugget Nugent has agreed to run a tournament for us on October 15 at the Legion. He is already looking for teams that would like to play, and has the team entry tickets printed. Starting time is 6:00 PM. We will be selling chances for a wheelbarrow of booze in conjunction with the tournament, and the Lodge will be having refreshments for sale. If you have never played this game before, let me assure you that it is not strenuous, so you have no excuse for saying that you are not in shape to participate. Will we see you there? MONTHLY BARBEQUES Our monthly barbeques continue to do well. The next one will be on September 17 th, with part of the proceeds going to the Jacobs family. As you may remember, they lost their son to a drowning accident this summer, and we felt that the Lodge could do more to help them out with expenses. Our October barbeque will be on the 15 th, with the recipient undecided at this time. The summer may be winding down, but the barbeques go on throughout the year. FILE CABINET OF MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS We donated $500 to the Relay For Life, and $500 to the Fulton Junior High PTO last month. Did you see our pictures in The O Fallon Progress? A couple of your officers will age by another year next week. Ask around to see who they might be.

FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR S QUILL Change. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes it means two things. First, it can mean those jingly, annoying circular objects that we keep in our pants pocket. That type of change is especially valuable if you donate a dime a day to the Gimme Five program. That only amounts to $36.50 a year, and if every Moose member gave that amount, our child city at Mooseheart and our city of contentment Moosehaven, would have no financial worries. Change. That's what our Lodge is doing. We have met at the VFW for seven or eight years. We have held many of our activities there throughout the years. Now it is time to move on. Change. The Fischer-Sollis American Legion Post 173 invited us to meet in their building and hold our activities there. We decided it is time to make a change, so we took them up on it. We hope you will continue to support us at the Legion just as you did at the VFW. Nothing has changed with your Lodge leadership. We'll be there for you just as we always have been. Change. This change is good. Fraternally, Wayne RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED O Fallon-Fairview Heights Moose Lodge #2608 5240 Pepperdine Court Fairview Heights, IL 62208-3914 DATED MATERIAL
