Page 3 Richland County Herdsmanship Awards The Herdsmanship Awards are selected at the end of the fair week. The winner of this award is a 4-H er who has taken care of their Livestock Animals and kept their area clean the entire week. The 4-Her also leads a helping hand to other 4-H ers in need. Poultry Luke Colwell Sheep Jacob & Isaac Pampe Rabbitt Haley Mitchell Swine Collin & Alex Diel Bucket Calf Claire Steber Goat Abby Meadows Beef Tanner Scherer & Dalton Wood 4-H Bright Futures Award Tractor Supply and Green Leaf Incorporated sponsored an award this year at fair to be selected during our county s 4-H show. The award is titled Bright Futures and its aim is to recognize outstanding youth. There is one award per county. The award includes a $25 Visa Gift Card and a plaque. The winner was to be selected during our 4-H summer exhibition. Because of the nature of the sponsors, the winner was to come from the gardening/crops/plants/horticulture area. Our judges got together and chose the winner. This years winner was Jessica Dehner of the Happy Worker s 4-H Club with her Vegetable Gardening A project! Stallard places 5th at Illinois State Dog 4-H Dog Show Holly Stallard competed in the State 4-H Dog Show which was held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, IL on August 27th. Holly and her dog Biscuit placed 5th overall! They did an excellent job!! We are so proud of you Holly and Biscuit for representing Richland County at the State level!! Hemrich competes at State Poultry Contest of the Southern Smilers 4-H Club competed at the 2016 State 4-H Poultry Judging Contest on June 28 at the University of Illinois Stock Pavilion in Urbana. Kaleb placed 6th overall! Congratulations Kaleb! We re proud of you for representing Richland County 4-H on the State level!

Page 7 Local 4-H ers Exhibited at the Illinois State Fair General Projects were exhibited and judged on Monday, August 21st. Exhibitors whose projects far exceed the project standards were awarded a purple Superior award at the discretion of the judges. Each Participant receives a red, white & blue Rosette Award of Excellence. We are very proud of our Richland County 4-H ers that represented us! Congratulations!!! Page 8 Williams named to State 4-H Livestock Ambassador Team Garrett Williams has been selected to be a part of the Illinois State 4-H Livestock Ambassador Team. This team of youth members are selected to serve Illinois 4-H by informing people about the importance of livestock production and 4-H opportunities. Garrett will serve a two-year term on the team and will help at events and take part in activities throughout the state of Illinois. Garrett serves on a team comprised of other 4-H members throughout the state who have the same passion for 4-H and Livestock as he does. Garrett is enrolled in the Southern Smilers 4-H Club and is the son of Dan and Tammy Williams. Pictured above you can see Garrett putting on an activity at the Richland County Fair for local youth called Risk Ranch, an activity where youth learn about raising pigs and the risks that come into play. Scherer selected to serve as 4-H Representative on the Illinois Farm Bureau Youth Education Committee Tanner Scherer has been selected to serve as a 4-H Representative on the Illinois Farm Bureau Youth Education Committee. Tanner is the son of Kent and Amber Scherer of Olney, IL. The Youth Education Committee provides support for various 4-H and FFA programs throughout the year. The 4-H representatives will assist with the planning, implementing, and evaluation of these various programs. Only two 4-H Youth Representatives are selected throughout the entire state of Illinois and these representatives serve a oneyear term on the committee. Tanner will be required to attend various meetings and activities throughout the year including: Youth Education Committee Meetings, IFB Annual Meeting, IFB Young Leader Conference, IFB & Affiliates Youth Conference, Illinois FFA Convention, & IFB Heritage and Cooperative Tour to Washington, D.C. Williams selected to serve as Livestock Ambassador Representative on the Illinois Farm Bureau Youth Education Committee Garrett Williams has been selected to serve as a Representative on the Illinois Farm Bureau Youth Education Committee. SCHERER TO COMPETE AT NATIONAL TRACTOR COMPETITION Page 9 Tanner Scherer placed 1st during the Richland County 4-H Fair in the Tractor Driving competition which qualified him to compete at the State Tractor Driving Contest held at McLean County Fair on August 6th. Tanner took 1st place at the State Competition which now qualifies him to compete at the National Youth Engineering Challenge in the Agricultural Tractor Challenge on September 25th-27th at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds in Lafayette, IN! During the two day competition Tanner will have to complete a written examination, parts identification, tractor safety, two-wheel driving course, and a four-wheel driving course. Tanner will be competing against other youth from all over the country! We are so proud of him and wish him the best of luck!
