(3) Oregon State 11, (6) UNC 6 Attendance 21,568 (MCWS Total: 170,613;; Avg. 18,957) Time of Game: 3:56 Oregon State advances to play Mississippi State on Friday at 2 p.m. (CT). UNC has been eliminated from the College World Series with a 1-2 record. (3) Oregon State (51-11-1): Oregon State has advanced to semifinal round of College World Series in each of its past 5 appearances;; must beat Mississippi State twice to reach CWS Finals Oregon State has eliminated North Carolina from College World Series all three seasons they have met (2006 CWS Finals, 2007 CWS Finals, 2018 pool play). This is the third time in the past two CWS that the Beavers have rallied from a three-run deficit to win (Monday vs. Washington, 2017 vs. CSU Fullerton);; there have only been four other 3-run deficits overcome in eight years since the CWS moved to TD Ameritrade Park. Oregon State is making its second consecutive trip to Omaha and seventh all-time. The Beavers are now 17-11 in the College World Series, including a 17-9 mark under head coach Pat Casey. OSU won the national championship in both 2006 and 2007, both against North Carolina. Only 10 teams in CWS history have lost their opening game and come all the way back to win the title. Oregon State is one of those teams (2006). OSU in in the midst of its 18th visit to the postseason. The Beavers are 65-36 (.644) all-time in the NCAA Tournament. OSU is now 4-3 in the College World Series over the past two seasons (103-14-1 in all other games). OSU is now 20-9 (.690) under head coach Pat Casey in postseason elimination games. The Beavers are now 5-2 all-time against North Carolina, with all seven of those meetings coming in Omaha. OSU is 31-2 against non-pac-12 opponents this season. Through three CWS games, the OSU offense has registered 31 runs (10.33/game) and 42 hits (14/game). The Beavers are hitting.359 (42-for-117) in their three CWS contests. 19 of OSU's 31 runs in the CWS have come in the seventh inning or later. North Carolina entered tonight s game having won the last 50 games in which the Tar Heels had scored six or more runs dating back to last season. The Beavers snapped that streak with their comeback victory. Sophomore Adley Rutschman finished with four RBI to set an Oregon State school record with his 77th RBI of the season. Rutschman s 77 RBI best the previous record of 76 that was set by Michael Conforto in 2012. Rutschman hit a solo home run in the first inning and a bases-clearing, game-tying double in the eighth. He is now 6-for-10 with 3 doubles, a home run, 7 RBIs, 5 walks and 4 runs scored during the 2018 CWS. Rutschman was just 1-for-15 with 1 run scored and 5 strikeouts in the 2017 CWS. Rutschman becomes first player with three extra-base hits in a College World Series game since Fresno State's Steve Detwiler vs Georgia in the 2008 CWS Finals (1 home run, two doubles tonight). Rutschman s seven RBI thus far in the CWS are tied for first amongst all players in Omaha. Mississippi State s Jordan Westburg also has seven RBI. OSU set a school record for home runs in a season in its last game and picked off right where it left off tonight. The Beavers Cadyn Grenier and Adley Rutschman both hit solo shots to left center in the first inning and Tyler Malone capped off the night with a two-run shot in the ninth, upping the single-season team record to 64 dingers. It s the first time the Beavers have hit three home runs in a game since May 15 when OSU tallied four against San Diego. Grenier and Rutschman become the first pair of teammates to homer in the same inning at the CWS since Quincy Nieporte and Cal Raleigh went back-to-back for Florida State during 9th inning of Game 9 last year. Grenier and Rutschman are also the first two teammates to hit home runs during the first inning at the CWS since Harrison Bader and Buddy Reed for Florida during Game 9 in 2015. The two home runs in the first inning marked the seventh time this season that the Beavers have gone yard more than once in the same inning. Grenier and Rutschman both hit their first home run of the CWS and second of the NCAA Tournament, while Malone smacked his second of both the CWS and NCAA Tournament. It was Grenier s sixth homer of the season, Malone s seventh and Rutschman s eighth. Rutschman finished 3-for-5 to become the fifth different Oregon State player to put together a three-hit game this CWS.

Trevor Larnach collected his third RBI of the CWS and 71st of the season with a one-run double in the top of the third. PAC-12 Pitcher of the Year Luke Heimlich had his third shortest start of the season. He finished with three runs, two of which were earned, on six hits in 2.2 IP. Heimlich also started Saturday s CWS opener against North Carolina, in which he suffered his second shortest start of the season (2.1). Against the Tar Heels in the CWS, Heimlich s numbers sit at: 14.4 ERA, 0-1 W-L and a ND, 5.0 IP, 10 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. Andy Armstrong pinch ran from Zak Taylor in the bottom of the eighth inning. Since the Beavers batted around, Taylor stayed in to pinch hit to close out the frame. OSU has committed six errors in its three CWS games. In the previous 16 games, the Beavers had committed just three. The Beavers have won 50-plus games for the fourth time in school history and recorded back-to-back 50-plus win seasons for the first time in program history. The 2018 OSU squad joins the 2017 (56), 2013 (52) and 2006 (50) teams.

Since 1999, Game 1 of the CWS started with an error on the first play four different times (2002, '11, '14, '18) Today s game marked the first time in which it happened on the first pitch and did not also include a hit on the play (error allowed runner to move up a base). Day 1 of the 2018 CWS did not feature a home run marking the first time since June 18, 2016 that none of the two games had home runs (Oklahoma State vs. UC Santa Barbara and Arizona vs. Miami, Fla.). There have been 14 father/son combinations appearing in the CWS... Roger Clemens (Texas 1982-83) is the only father on that list to have two sons to make it to the CWS (Kacey/2014 and Kody/2018). Texas Tech s Gabe Holt was called for batter s interference to end the top of the ninth Last time that was called in a CWS game was on June 16, 2013 (NC State s Jake Fincher vs. UNC). Oregon State's Andy Armstrong pinch ran and pinch hit during the same inning (8th) of Game 9... Armstrong pinch ran for the first hitter in the inning (Zak Taylor)... He then pinch hit because that spot in the order was due up as the 10th hitter of the inning... Ended the inning by leaving the bases loaded with a pop-out bunt.
