Survival of the Fittest Softball Tournament Rules, Format, and Policies HOSTED BY: MISSOURI CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR MORE INFROMATION CONTACT ASST CHIEF BOTHELL: 281-403-8719 Fundraising Each team must submit a registration fee of $200 in order to participate in this tournament. The team captain will submit the appropriate funds to the hosting agency on the morning of the tournament. Checks should be made payable to: Missouri City Police Officer s Association. All of the funds collected from the tournament (through registration fees, concessions, raffle items, and miscellaneous donations) will be donated by the hosting agency to further domestic violence awareness and breast cancer research. Equipment/Attire Athletic shoes are required. Metal cleats are NOT allowed. Only softball bats are allowed, no wooden bats, and no baseball bats. All bats 1.20 and below must have an Approved Association designation on them. Example: ASA, ISA, NSA, USSSA, USA. Umpires will be checking bats before the games start. The following bats are banned: 1. Miken Ultra, except 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, or 2017 with a stamp. 2. Miken Ultra II 3. All Titanium bats 4. All other 1.21 bats Each team must provide a minimum of 2 each of the followings softballs: ASA certified cor.52, compression 300 women s 11 inch softball ASA certified cor.52, compression 300 men s 12 inch softball The Umpires or the pitcher may remove any and all other balls. It is recommended that pitchers or other defenders wear shin guards or helmets if they feel the need to do so. Face masks are allowed for the pitchers. They are not mandatory, but are recommended.
Team Rules for Eligibility, Lineups, Batting Order A team has to have a minimum of 8 players with no out spots. Of these 8 active players, at least four must be female and at least 5 must be current, volunteer, or retired first responders. Each player must sign a release of liability form and submit it to the hosting agency before he/she can be allowed to play. Each player must also be listed on a team s roster in order to play. Rosters and waivers are due before the tournament starts. Teams can pick up substitute players as long as they sign the release of liability waiver before starting to play. Team insurance is recommended but not required and can be purchased via this link: https://www.rpsbollinger.com/products-programs/usa-softball/team-individual-registration-insurance/ Players must be a minimum of 18 years old to participate. The maximum amount of players that a team can have on the field is ten. Everyone should be included. If your team has more than ten people who wish to play, everyone should be given an opportunity to do so. Each team shall have one Captain, the Captain will be responsible for the team and spectators. The Team Captains must ensure that: a. All team players must bat in the order of the lineup. b. Only the Captain may request a conference with the umpire to discuss calls. Batting Order: Everyone in the lineup must bat. Teams should alternate between males and females, until all females have batted. A male batter leads off every game. Teams must field at least eight players and no more than ten (minimum 4 females). Males and females do not have to alternate defensively in the infield, outfield, or at pitcher/catcher. However, there must be at least one (1) female in the outfield and at least one (1) female in the infield (pitcher and catcher count as infield in regards to this rule).
You may substitute players. All players are eligible to play in future innings. When making substitutions, the gender distribution rules must be followed. If you take out a male, you must send in a male to replace him, and vice versa. Tournament This Softball Tournament uses a Double Elimination Tournament format, with two separate brackets; one for the winner s bracket and one for the loser s bracket. Each team will be guaranteed to play two games. Bracket placement will be determined on the morning of the tournament by random drawing of team names. Sportsmanship Inappropriate actions or comments directed at players (of any team) or umpires will not be tolerated. Each team captain is responsible for the behavior of its players and spectators. If unacceptable behavior occurs, the offending team may be issued one warning. If inappropriate behavior continues, the team may forfeit the game and be credited with a loss. The umpires have discretion as to whether behavior is inappropriate, unacceptable, or unsportsmanlike to enforce consequences as needed. Game Rules 1. Regulation games last 7 full innings or 50 minutes whichever comes first. In the event a game is tied at the end of a regulation game, each team will begin their half inning with a runner on second. This runner must be the last person who batted in the prior inning. 2. Batters start with a 1 strike & 1 ball count. An extra foul is allowed after the second strike. 3. If you do not have a minimum of 8 players at the time of the game, your team forfeits. 4. If a player is injured or physically disabled, they may leave and return when they are once again able to play. 5. Players may NOT lead off base. NO STEALING!
6. Bunting is NOT allowed. 7. Happy Gilmore swings, or swings in which a batter takes a running start to the ball are NOT allowed and will result in an automatic out. 8. There is a 2 homerun rule for each game. Any homeruns after that will be considered as outs. There is no one up rule. 9. Mercy Rule of 20 runs ahead in 3 innings or 10 runs in 5 innings. In either case if the home team is ahead by the requisite number of runs, the game will end after the top half of the inning. 10. Any line drive which hits the pitcher or in the judgment of the umpire the pitcher uses his glove as a shield to protect himself from a ball that would hit him, is a dead ball, batter is out, and no runners may advance. 11.
