In the April Issue of GOLF DIGEST there was an article called SITUATION GOLF... "The most popular format (golf game) among weekend golfers is MATCH PLAY. You can play head to head (singles) or with a partner (better ball). It s a kinder game than standard stroke play because big scores are less disastrous, and its fun!!!! " As the various events are planned for your golfing enjoyment - keep in mind that EWGA WATERLOO gives all members regardless of their handicaps the opportunity to play these different types of games (matches). Show your support and join in whether its a one day event or a season long elimination event. For 2016 we will be playing the normal (single person\no teams) match play for both 9 and 18 hole matches and using both DOON AND ROCKWAY to play your match. In both cases the higher handicap player will receive 50% of the handicap difference. Marilyn BROWNIE Brown The EWGA Canada Board of Directors has asked that we remind our members about the membership fee policy in place for members who renew on a yearly basis. As set out in the EWGA Canada policy, in order to qualify for the $115 membership fee, renewing members must pay their fees before their expiration date. In order to assist members with their renewals, EWGA Canada sends out a 30 day notice to remind members that their expiration date is approaching. In addition to the reminder, they also grant members a 30 day grace period after their expiration date to pay their renewal fees. This means that, in total, members are given 60 days to renew their membership at a rate of $115. Therefore once you ve received your 30 day notice from EWGA-Canada, we recommend that you pay your fees on time. If they are not paid within the time frames granted by EWGA-Canada, you must pay the new members fee of $130 with no other options. 2016 is shaping up top be an exciting year for League Play. As well as having the regular League play at Doon on Tuesdays and Rockway on Thursdays we have lined up a number of Special League Night venues. Check out the calendar under events on the EWGA Waterloo website for dates and locations. But you to give you a little teaser.back by popular demand...galt Country Club and Rebel Creek! The 2016 golf season will soon begin. Many EWGA members record their scores for each hole and use the scores of that day of play for friendly games with their golfing buddies. Consider this, those initial scores can be your benchmark and you can then track each game scores to simply get better at the game in putting, chipping, fairway shots and greens in regulations. Use the EWGA GN21 Handicap tool to better track your scores and enhance your performance in those friendly FUN games. Here is why you should have a Handicap: Handicaps level the playing field. Everyone comes to the first tee at the same level so when you win, it s because you played better that day, not because you re a better player all the time. Handicaps travel with you. The more difficult the course, the more handicap you get. Handicaps give you a method to track your progress. As you learn more and play more, you ll see your handicap go down. Handicaps allow you to play in tournaments. Many events require an official handicap. Having a handicap means you re ready to play! In 2016, we will be awarding prizes to the most improved golfer in each handicap flight category. Hurry and register on the EWGA GN21 system and record your scores. If you have any questions about establishing or using a handicap, you can e-mail Lisa Narayansingh, Handicap and Golf Education Director, at education@ewga-waterlooregion.ca Welcome to all returning and new EWGA members.
