TOURNAMENT REFEREE : Mr. H.B.Chandana Nilantha ASSISTANT REFEREE : Mrs. Samantha Nawarathna 1.The official Entry Form for the above Championship is enclosed herewith. 2. Participation is open only for the Firms Affiliated to the Mercantile Badminton Association. Non Nationals & Under 18 years players will not be eligible to participate in this tournament. (Age calculation will be as at 1 st January 2018). All participating establishments should have paid their annual subscription for the year 2018 (Rs.7000/=) and any outstanding payment for the 1-4 previous years prior to the commencement of the tournament. 3. The Entry fee will be Rs.10,000/= for the 1 st Team & Rs. 9,000/= for each additional Team. Please note that the Entry Fee will not be refunded in the event the Tournament is required to be postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. Once the tournament entry is accepted & added to the draw the company is liable to pay the entry fees even they do not take part in the championships. 4. The Championship will be conducted in divisions A, B, C, D, E, F, G & H for Men s. A, B, C, D & E for Women s. Mixed for all division,there will also be a Veterans Event for Men & Women. Age calculation will be as at 1 st January 2018 for the Veteran Men s( Over 40 years,women s over 35 years, Women s over 40 years & Masters Over 50 Years.) 5. If the entries do exceed 12 teams need to be grouped in to 2,3 or 4 separate divisions, the tournament committee will evaluate the standard of players in each team and the team s past performance when deciding the group. Men s events a team should consist with minimum of 4 players, maximum of 9 players. Women s /Veterans & Masters events a team should consist with minimum of 2 players, maximum of 6 players. Mixed event team should consist with minimum of 2 players, maximum of 6 players. 6. Company must enter their first best 4 players in one team and if a company has more players of a than required for one team they should enter the 4 best players in the 1 st Team and the balance players in the 2 nd Team in the same division. If a team consist with Sri Lanka Current national Ranking list players will move in to the highest (A) Division.(Single Ranking) 7. A Tie will consist of the following matches and be determined as follows. EVENTS 1. Men s Event - 03 Singles & 02 Doubles (Best of Five Matches) 2. Women s Event - 02 Singles & 01 Double (Best of Three Matches) 3. Mixed Event - 01 Men s Singles, 01 Women s Singles & 01 Mixed Double(Best of Three Matches) 4. Men s / Women s Veteran s Event - 02 Singles & 01 Double (Best of Three Matches) 5. Masters Event - 02 Singles & 01 Double (Best of Three Matches) 8. Any player will be permitted a maximum of 2 Events Any player will be permitted a maximum of 2 Matches per tie. However a player cannot play 2 singles or 2 doubles matches in the same tie. A player could play in Veterans or Master plus one other main division. 9. The Championship will be conducted in divisions, on a quarter leagues, semi league or full league basis depending on the number of entries received and all matches will be played according to the Rules & Regulations of Badminton approved by the BWF and adopted by Sri Lanka Badminton Association and MBA. 10. The seeding and grouping of teams will be done by the Tournament Committee after evaluating the past performance

and strength of each team. 11. There is no restriction on the number of Teams a firm can enter except mixed team event. (mixed event D division to H division one Team from each firm.) 12. Substitution will be allowed only before the relevant Tie starts. (Substitution players name should be on original entry form) 13. Opposing captains will submit the draw for each tie and call the order of play alternatively. In the event a player has to play 02 consecutive matches in a tie, the match controller will call the next match which does not involve a player needing rest time. In all Men s,women s & Mixed event the first match will be the singles. 14. Participation is open to permanent employees of all mercantile sector establishments that are affiliated to the Mercantile Badminton Association. The employees should be on the pay roll of their respective establishments for a minimum period of four (04) Month as at 1 st September 2018 and be registered and paid for payments for EPF & EVEN HAND OVER DATE SHOULD BE FOUR MONTHS (4) PRIOR TO THE 1 ST SEPTEMBER 2018.(B card Date )under that establishment and should not be employed at any other establishment either on a part time or full time basis. 15. The employees should be on the payroll of their respective establishment and not be as a form consultant Of (Director)/ Brand Ambassadors or in any other form of employment while he /she is employed in at another establishment. If he /she is the Owner / Director in one establishment and registered in MBA he/ she should not be playing for any other establishment. No form of cancelations of registration is permitted at MBA unless there business registration is canceled.(please refer rule No 14.) 16. It is compulsory that full name, EPF number NIC number and the past performance is indicated against each player in the entry form. Participant should be prepared to produce the originals of their birth certificate / appointment letter / official ID or EPF B card copy upon the request of the referee or tournament committee. Failing to do so will disqualify the participation. 17. In semi-league groups, the group winner of one group will play the runner-up of the other group in the semi finals and the two winning semi finalists will play the finals. The losing Semi Finalists will play for 3 rd /4 th place. 18. In quarter league, the group winner & runner-up will play the quarter finals (A winner Vs C runner-up, B winner Vs D runner-up, C winner Vs A runner-up, D winner Vs B runner-up) and the winners will play the semi finals. 19. In quadruple group play, the format will be shown in the draw. 20. Each tie in the group stage will be played to a finish. 21. If a team wins a particular division, they will automatically be promoted to the next higher division in the following year. 22. In the event of 02 or more teams having won equal number of ties in the group stage, the BWF regulation for deciding the winner will be adopted. (See annexure I for details on the tie breaker). 23. The rally point scoring system will be adopted for the championships. 24. All teams are required to be punctual and should report with their full teams at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. No captain should declare a team if every player is not present. 25. Any team failing to turn up at the allotted time will be liable to concede a walkover. The same will apply in case of a player not being present once a match has been called. Only 10 minutes grace period will be permitted. No postponements will be permitted under any circumstances 26. If a player concedes a walkover in any event due to injury, illness or absence, he/she will not be permitted to compete in any other event of the same tie. Any exceptional circumstances will be referred to the referee or appointed official. 27. All times mentioned on the programme are estimated. Teams should be prepared to play till the schedule for the day is concluded. A fine of Rs. 5000/= will be charge against any team that concedes a walk aver after the

start of the group matches. If a team is unable to play after submitting the entries for any unforeseen circumstances, a letter from the Company will need to be given to the Chairman Event/Tournament Committee or Tournament Referee prior to the start of the Group matches. Any team that violates this rule and does not pay the fine will be subject to a one year suspension. 28. All participants are expected to assist the MBA by officiating as umpires and keeping lines at this tournament. 29. The decision of the Umpire shall be final on all matters connected with the actual play in the match that he/she is officiating. 30. Any establishment certifying a false declaration regarding eligibility of a player in the entry form will be disqualified and will be subject to disciplinary action which could include a suspension of membership up to a period of two (02) years by the MBA. 31. All disputes with regard to the championships shall be referred to the Referee & MBA Event/ Tournament Committee. The decision of the Referee & MBA Event/ tournament committee on all matters connected with the tournament and any matters not provided for shall be final & binding on all participants. 32. Participants of this championship will declare that they are in good health and absolutely and legally relieve the organizers and such persons involved in the organizing of the 35 th Mercantile Badminton Association Inter-Firm Team Badminton Championships 2018 of any responsibility for any injury, loss or damage to property in connection with the above championships. 33. The 1 st,2 nd & 3 rd Place Overall Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the establishment which scores the highest aggregate points as per the points table & Certificates and Cups will be awarded to Best Player of each divisions. 34. An approved brand of feather shuttlecocks will be used for all Men s A, B, C, D, Women s A, B, Mixed A,B,C, Veteran s matches & Masters matches. All matches in all other divisions will be played using an approved brand of cork based nylon shuttlecocks. 35. The point system for the overall trophy is sent herewith. (see annexure II for details on the tie breaker) 36. Certificates and Cups will be awarded to the winners, runners-up, Certificates awarded to 3rd & 4 th Places of the events. 37. Challenge Trophies will be awarded to the winning company of each Division and it will be the responsibility of the Company to return the trophy to the MBA within 3 months. All individual team players that re placed 1-3 will be given a medal/trophy and a certificate. However, all receiving such medal/trophy/certificate should be present during the award ceremony to collect them personally. Awards will not be handed over to representatives and the player will forfeit such award by not being present to collect it personally. All players getting on to the podiums are requested to come with playing attire or with tracksuits. 38. Entries will be closed on the 24 th August 2018 at the below address 39. Any establishment certifying a false declaration regarding eligibility of a player in the entry form will be disqualified according to the rules and regulations of BWF adopted by MBA, under GCR, part 111, section 1 B, appendix 4, from 1 to 5 & GCR Part 111 - section 1A 8 points will be taken in to account of players Offenses will be subject to disciplinary action with /without Inquiry, Maximum of 2 Years as per the tournament referees & chairman events reports to the GCM of MBA. RANKING IN TOURNAMENTS PLAYED UNDER THE POOL SYSTEM OR IN GROUPS 16.3 In case of team championships: 16.3.1 Ranking will be established by the number of ties won. 16.3.2 If two teams have won the same number of ties, the winner of the tie between them will be ranked higher. 16.3.3 If three or more teams have won the same number of ties, ranking will be established by the difference between total ties won and total ties lost, with greater difference ranked higher. 16.3.3.1 If this still leaves two teams equal, the winner of the tie between them will be ranked higher. 16.3.4 If three or more teams have won the same number of ties and are equal in the difference between total ties won and total ties lost, ranking will be established by the difference between total matches won and total matches lost, with greater difference ranked higher. 16.3.4.1 If this still leaves two teams equal, the winner of the ties between them will be ranked higher. 16.3.5 If three or more teams have won the same number of ties and are equal in the difference between total ties won and total ties lost and are also equal in the difference between total matches won and total matches lost, ranking will be established by the difference between total games won and total games lost, with greater difference ranked higher. 16.3.5.1 If this still leaves two teams equal, the winner of the tie between them will be ranked higher. 16.3.6 If three or more teams have won the same number of ties and are equal in the difference between total ties won and total ties lost and are equal in the difference between total matches won and total matches lost and are equal in the difference between total games won and total games lost, ranking will be established by the difference between total points won and total points lost, with greater difference ranked higher. 16.3.6.1 If this still leaves two teams equal, the winner of the tie between them will be ranked higher. 16.3.6.2 If three or more teams are still equal, then ranking will be established by drawing lots. 16.3.7 A team is entitled to prizes according to results actually obtained before any withdrawal or disqualification. 16.3.8 If a team is unable to complete all their pool ties, all the results of that team shall be deleted.
