Introduction I would first like to thank you for expressing interest in the Inaugural ColoradoWaterfowl.com goose hunt. This will be an annual event for the members of the ColoradoWaterfowl.com forum board. This will give everyone a chance to meet outside of the forum board and hunt together. We will be reliant on our outfitter and guides to get us into the birds. This alleviates all the stress we tend to have when taking others out to our own fields. We will be on foreign soil that we know little about other than what I tell or you research on your own. I can speak from personal experience about the outfitter and area we will be hunting in, I must say both are top notch. Oshkosh, Nebraska The hunt will take place in Oshkosh, Nebraska the self proclaimed Goose Capital. Oshkosh is surrounded by the Nebraska Sand hills on the north, wheat farms to the south, and corn, bean, and alfalfa production in the North Platte River Valley. The area is noted for it s hunting, fishing and camping with Lake McConaughy, the North Platte River and Crescent Lake Wildlife Refuge in the adjacent area. This little known refuge located in the Nebraska panhandle consists of 45,818 acres of rolling sand hills, the largest continuous dune area in America. The grass-covered dunes were created from the wind blown sands of an ancient sea. The Refuge is used primarily as a resting and feeding area for waterfowl and shorebirds and to a lesser extent for waterfowl production. Over 200,000 waterfowl may concentrate on the Refuge during fall migration. The Experience I was fortunate enough to purchase a two-day hunt through the celebrity goose hunt action in Fort Collins last year. I really did not know what to expect since this was an area of Nebraska that I hand never ventured into. I scheduled the hunt for January based on the outfitters recommendation. When January rolled around I packed up my gear and headed to Nebraska with my close friend Berry. The first morning of the hunt our guide Todd Roth greeted us at the Kwik-Shop. We headed to our hunt destination to find a pit stuffed with full body decoys, two heaters and let me tell you this pit was top notch. Our guide set the decoy spread and fired up the heaters and we started to wait. Not long into it we see some geese, he calls and they come like a dog on a leash. The geese started there decent into the decoys and I lost sight of them, but could hear they were close. Todd said TAKEM and I find these geese back flapping, feet down at five yards. If you are ready for this type of adrenaline pumping, IN YOUR FACE action, you need to go on this hunt. 3
