M. Friend SUPPLEMENTARY STEWARDS REPORT Coffs Harbour Racing Club, COFFS HARBOUR RACECOURSE, Sunday 22 July 2018 RACE 5: Daniel Baker Prelude 1215m Kanguru Jockey J. Taylor was fined $200 for using his whip on three additional occasions to the five permitted prior to the 100m (AR137A(5)(a)(ii)). RACE 6: Sawtell Cup 1515m: Balius Trainer Mr B. Witt advised that a blood test on the gelding in the days following the event revealed a minor irregularity that had been treated accordingly. Mr Witt added the gelding would be freshened up before its next race start. Blinkin Artie - Jockey J. Taylor was fined $200 for using his whip on three additional occasions to the five permitted prior to the 100m (AR137A(5)(a)(ii)). General: Dagga Boy collapsed and died whilst working at Ballina racecourse on the morning of Friday 1 December 2017. Evidence was taken from trainer Mr Terry McCarthy, jockey Ms Dallas Auckram and veterinarians Dr Kevin Squire and Dr John Clunie. A post mortem examination of Dagga Boy revealed the most likely cause of death to be cardiac seizure and terminal anoxia. As the stewards were satisfied that there was no obvious condition that contributed to the geldings death the matter was closed. RACE 1: Maiden Plate 1010m: Clickety Clicks Near the 800m was checked when tightened for room by Dashing Power (IRE) which laid in away from Regrading which laid in at that point. Jockeys J.
2 Bayliss (Dashing Win (IRE)) and R. Plumb (Regrading) were asked to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Hung out rounding the first turn. Raced wide in the middle stages. Eire s Legacy Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Hampered and carried wider near the 400m. Miss Showgirl Raced wide in the early stages. Monsun Soldier (FR) Eased from heels near 800m. Muoi Tieu Laid out down the straight. Moringa s Hiemie Hung out passing the 400m. Laid in at the entrance to the straight. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to be lame in the near fore (1/5). Trainer Mr M. Trihey was advised that the gelding requires a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. My Cousin Longy Near the 400m was checked after laying out onto heels of The Eulo Queen which laid in at that point. RACE 2: 2YO Maiden Plate 1010m: Annie Ethyl Inclined to overrace in the early stages. Laid in under pressure between the 150m and 50m. Maquina Voladora Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Mittere Laid out down the straight and made minor contact with Christmas Creek close to the finish line. Jockey J. Bayliss was issued a reprimand for using his whip in an action that raised his arm above shoulder height (AR137A(4)(b)). Rosy Elsie Trainer Mr J. Jarvis advised that the filly lost its off fore plate in running. Shujuku Slow to begin. Vin Rouge Bounded on jumping and eased when tightened between runners shortly after. Overraced and hung out rounding the first turn. Inclined to hang out approaching and rounding the home turn. RACE 3: 3YO Maiden Handicap 1260m: Crispy s Luck Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Shortly after straightening was disappointed for a run and obliged to ease and shift in around heels to continue to improve.
3 Fantastic Halo Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Globite s Jayar Pulled approaching and passing the 800m. Hologram Near the 700m raced greenly when racing in restricted room and lost ground. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding jockey L. Rolls sated that his mount failed to travel strongly throughout the event and was under pressure approaching the 600m to keep with the field. L. Rolls stated his mount only ground its way to the line and in his opinion was reluctant to let down on the soft track conditions. Inkblot When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding jockey J. Woodhouse stated that his mount failed to travel strongly throughout the event and when asked to sprint approaching the home turn it immediately dropped the bit. J. Woodhouse added his mount failed to sprint on straightening and was very disappointing. J. Woodhouse stated that his mount was second up after an impressive debut and in his opinion it did not back up. Trainer Mr B. Witt advised he would have a blood sample taken from the gelding in the coming days and report anything amiss with the gelding to stewards. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Jet Pilot Slow to begin. Just Radish Slow to begin and hampered shortly after. Moonmo Shifted out under pressure approaching and passing the 200m. Starzarina Slow to begin. Twilight Flyer Laid out under pressure down the straight. Wild Thief Slow to begin and hampered shortly after. RACE 4: Class 1 Handicap 1260m Aiolos Slow to begin. Unable to improve between the 100m and 50m when held up on heels. Lady Solerno Began awkwardly and bumped shortly after. Inclined to pull in the early stages. Laid in at the entrance to the straight. Madam Mouton Slow to begin. Eased after improving onto heels near the 400m. Unable to improve from this point until the entrance to the straight. Miss River Belle Laid out rounding the home turn.
4 Rain on Me Raced wide in the early and middle stages. A post race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormality. Royal Equiano Bumped on jumping. Inclined to lay out down the straight. Tevye Bumped on jumping. Upper Avenue Carried wider near the 200m. RACE 5: Class 2 Handicap 1410m Howick At the entrance to the straight bumped another runner whilst endeavouring to obtain clear running and was obliged to shift back inwards around heels to continue to improve. Kirin s Lad Declared a late scratching by order of stewards, acting on veterinary advice, after the gelding was found to be lame in the near hind leg (2/5). Trainer Mr D. Bougoure was advised that the gelding requires a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. Kopella Bumped at the entrance to the straight. Mackellar Slow to begin (3L). Schopenhauer (NZ) Began awkwardly. Overraced and hung out passing the 900m. Unable to improve approaching and rounding the home turn when held up on heels. Wainui Gold (NZ) Inclined to overrace approaching and rounding the first turn. Passing the 400m made and awkward stride after it laid in and bumped the running rail. RACE 6: Benchmark 55 Handicap 1310m: Desert Rush Unable to improve rounding the home turn when held up on heels. Ibelieveinmiracles Laid in and bumped the rail rounding the first turn. Jazzy Ruler Overraced fiercely approaching and rounding the first turn. Ministry of Fear Slow to begin. Near the 500m was steadied when momentarily tightened for room. RACE 7: Benchmark 67 Handicap 1010m: Aquajewel Bumped on jumping.
5 Charlee Bear Blundered near the 400m. Apprentice J. Hodge, in the presence of his master Mrs H. Page, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, under AR137(a), in that near the 400m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Foxy Walk which was carried in and tightened the running of Charlee Bear which was checked and lost its rightful running. J. Hodge s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 5 August 2018 and to expire on Friday 10 August 2018, on which day he may ride. Clang s Victory Jockey J. Taylor will be interviewed regarding his whip use prior to the 100m at a date to be fixed. Excalibrator Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Foxy Walk Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Round Mountain Gem Bumped on jumping. Eased after improving onto heels near the 400m. She Tells Lies When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of the mare trainer Mr L. Clapham stated that he had not expected todays performance as the mare typically performs best over a longer journey. Mr Clapham stated the mare was fresh today and suited by settling at the rear of the field, behind a fast tempo which allowed it to sprint strongly under a light weight impost. Sunset Hills Rounding the home turn became held up on heels and was unable to improve until the 300m. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding jockey G. Colless stated that as the start was affected his mount dropped its head and consequently was slow to begin (2L). G. Colless added after the manner it began, and the fact it was back 250m in distance today, his mount was obliged to settle at the tail of the field and it failed to sprint strongly on straightening. G. Colless stated that his mounts form to date indicates that the gelding races best when able to lead uncontested, over a longer journey and it appreciates track conditions softer than that today. Tofu Mick Raced very wide in the early and middle stages. RACE 8: Benchmark 55 Handicap 1610m: Celtic Trail Slow to begin. Daisy s Luck Bumped and unbalanced near the 900m. Dramatic Moments (NZ) Overraced rounding the first turn and near the 1000m. Gold for Kev Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
6 Real Elusive Rounding the turn at the 1000m was checked when momentarily tightened for room by Daisy s Luck which laid in. Bumped and unbalanced near the 900m. With Every Bound Laid out down the straight and was not tested when a beaten horse. Trainer Mr S. Everson advised the gelding had reached the end of its preparation and would be spelled. Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii).
