Less than 90 minutes from Geneva airport Resort Information Villars is a pleasant family orientated resort perched upon a South facing sunny plateau above the Rhone Valley just 90 minutes from Geneva. It s one of the few top league ski resorts which can truly claim to be a dual season resort. Villars is open all year and has a good selection of shops, sophisticated restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Neighbouring villages such as Gryon are completely unspoilt and all construction in the region is in traditional chalet style. Getting there Villars has one of the fastest transfer times of any Swiss resort as it is less than 90 minutes from Geneva airport. Access is fast by motorway almost all the way but there is also a good express train service from the airport (change trains in Bex or take the post bus from Aigle). In less than twenty minutes you can reach Lake Geneva and the charming town of Montreux. There will also be trial flights to Sion Airport in February, which is under an hour away from the resort. The ski area is served by modern high speed lifts, including the Glacier 3000 at Les Diablerets. There are plenty of intermediate and beginners slopes and some excellent mountain restaurants. It is a proper place with shops, restaurants open the year round and a golf course in summer. If you are looking for a weekend-able dual season resort or for a retirement home then this is the best resort in Switzerland. Villars has a life and charm at any time of year.
Winter The ski area centres around Bretaye, a wonderful sunny bowl at 1800m and the new, improved link with Les Diablerets gives easy access to over 225km of pistes including the glacier at Les Diablerets (3000m). The ski lifts are virtually all new thanks to a huge investment in the last 4 or 5 years; the cable cars up to the Les Diablerets Glacier have been upgraded to a 125 man jumbo cable car and the Roc d Orsay télécabine has been replaced with a new high-speed lift so there are no lift queues. A further investment in a new system of snow cannons ensures that you can ski back to the centre of the resort until the end of the season. Non-skiers There is plenty to do for non-skiers and they can even take the train up the mountain to join the skiers for lunch. There are some excellent restaurants for all budgets. Off the slopes there is something for all the family including a swimming pool, ice rink, sports centre and bowling alley. Although Villars looks is a quiet family resort there is some quite lively night life if you know where to go. Charlie s Bar and El Gringo s nightclub are heaving at the weekends when the locals come from Geneva. Villars is an excellent choice for families and the beginners slopes are at 1800m and are accessed by the charming cog railway from the centre of the resort. There is a good amount of off-piste for skiers looking to head off the beaten track, while a number of challenging runs will keep intermediates happy.
Summer Villars is not just a ski resort, it is a proper place with shops and restaurants open the year round, with a life and charm at any time of year. This is a genuinely dual season resort, and it s vibrant at any time of the year. The resort is an enormously popular hiking destination, with great mountain biking and horse riding trails. The cog railway operates during the summer and takes you up to 1800m to Lac Bretaye, where there are easy walks, bike routes and some charming restaurants. The access road down from Villars is easy and the lake and Montreux are only 20 minutes away. Golf Villars also has a fabulous golf course, which was founded in 1922 and is situated on a south facing plateau at an altitude of 1660m. With stunning views of the Aguille du Midi and Mont Blanc this 18 hole, par 70 course is accessible to all those with a Golf Course Authorisation (AP) or Green Card. Members and visitors can relax after a round in the fabulous Club House, which serves good food to skiers in the winter and golfers in summer.
