Carter Stadium. 4TCU and Minnesota have met just once before on the gridiron, a 9-7 Golden Gophers victory in Minneapolis on Sept. 28, 1974. 4The Horned Frogs and Golden Gophers will meet again next season (Sept. 3) in Minneapolis. 4TCU has won eight of its last nine regular-season games following an open date. 4The Horned Frogs are looking to open with a 2-0 record for the eighth time in the last 12 seasons. 4TCU is 62-14 under head coach Gary Patterson at Amon G. Carter Stadium. 4TCU is playing its third season in Amon G. Carter Stadium after its $164 million rebuild. PATTERSON VERSUS THE BIG TEN 4With Gary Patterson as head coach, TCU is 3-1 versus Big Ten opponents. 4TCU s last two contests versus Big Ten teams came in bowl games. 4The Horned Frogs dropped a 17-16 decision to Michigan State in the 2012 Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl after defeating Wisconsin, 21-19, in the 2011 Rose Bowl. 4TCU s last regular-season meeting with a Big Ten team was a 48-45 double-overtime victory over Northwestern in the 2004 season opener in Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs also defeated the Wildcats, 48-24, in Evanston, Ill., in 2002. FRIENDS 4TCU head coach Gary Patterson (Rozel) and Minnesota s Jerry Kill (Cheney) have a special bond, besides both being Kansas natives. 4When Patterson married his wife Kelsey, Kill was part of the wedding party. JIM WACKER TIES 4Both TCU and Minnesota were coached by Jim Wacker. 4Wacker was the Horned Frogs head coach from 1983-91, before leaving Fort Worth to take the reins of the Golden Gophers (1992-96). 4The 2014 campaign marks the 30th anniversary of Wacker s most-successul TCU team, as his 1984 Unbeleevable squad went 8-4 in reaching the Bluebonnet Bowl. REMEMBER ME? 4While at Texas Tech in 2012, TCU co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Sonny Cumbie stepped into a play-calling role as interim OC when the Red Raiders totaled 429 yards in a 34-31 win over Minnesota in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. TRUE STUDENT-ATHLETES 4Safety Sam Carter and defensive tackle Chucky Hunter represent TCU on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. They also set the pace in the classroom. 4Carter is playing this season as a graduate student, having earned his TCU degree in May. He majored in sociology with a minor in business. 4Hunter, a criminal justice major, is scheduled to graduate in December in just 3 1/2 years. TCU NOTABLES 4TCU s new offense, under co-coordinators Doug Meacham and Sonny Cumbie, totaled 33 first downs and 555 yards in the Aug. 30 season-opening 48-14 victory over Samford. 4The Horned Frogs 96 plays from scrimmage against Samford marked its most in a game since a school record 111 versus San Diego State in 2007. 4Trevone Boykin, the only player in the nation last season with a 100-yard rushing game, 100-yard receiving game and 200-yard passing game, earned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors against Samford. Boykin totaled 349 yards of offense (320 passing, 29 rushing) and three touchdowns. He was 29-of-41 in the air for two scores. 4The Horned Frogs, who return nine starters on defense from last year s team, held Samford to just 143 yards of offense in the season opener. 4Defensive end Mike Tuaua had seven tackles, including 3 1/2 for loss, with two sacks and two forced fumbles against Samford. 1 I 2014 TCU FOOTBALL

The 33 first downs tied for second all-time for a TCU home game in the 85-year history of Amon G. Carter Stadium. BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK 4Trevone Boykin was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the seasonopening 48-14 win over Samford. 4Boykin totaled 349 yards of offense and three touchdowns. He completed 29-of-41 passes for 320 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also added a 1-yard scoring run. 4The 29 completions were a career high for the Dallas native, while the 320 yards passing were just shy of a career-best 332 against Texas Tech in 2012. 4Boykin added 29 yards rushing and led TCU on scoring drives on seven of his 12 possessions. JUST CALL HIM ATHLETE 4Trevone Boykin became the first Horned Frog in history and the only player in the nation last season with a 100-yard rushing, 100-yard receiving and 200- yard passing game. 4Boykin was one of just seven players nationally last season with a 100-yard rushing and 100-yard receiving game. 4In the 21-17 win at Iowa State, Boykin became the first Horned Frog with three rushing touchdowns in a game since Joseph Turner versus Texas State in 2009. 4Boykin s three rushing touchdowns in the win at Iowa State came on just five carries, including a 1-yard run with 38 seconds to play for the go-ahead score. He added four receptions for 24 yards. 4Boykin ran for a score, threw for another and contributed four receptions at Kansas State. 4Boykin s career-best 11 receptions, for 100 yards, against West Virginia were the most by a Horned Frog in 13 seasons under head coach Gary Patterson. It was also the highest total by a TCU player since 1995 (John Washington, 12 versus SMU) while tying for third-most in a game by a Horned Frog since 1991: TCU vs. Minnesota Sept. 13, 2014 Fort Worth, Texas 3 p.m. (CDT) FOX Sports 1 No. Name Receptions (Opp.,Yr) 1. MR. EFFICIENCY 4Trevone Boykin threw just one pass in each of the final two games last season and both resulted in touchdowns. 4Boykin had a 1-yard scoring toss to Josh Doctson at Kansas State and a 21-yard touchdown to LaDarius Brown versus Baylor on his only pass attempts of the game. 4Boykin became just the third FBS player since 1996 to have 1,000 passing yards and 100 receiving yards in the same season. TCU DEBUT 4Matt Joeckel had a 2-yard scoring toss to Kolby Listenbee on his first official pass as a Horned Frog during the Samford game. 4Joeckel completed 4-of-8 passes for 35 yards. He added a 10-yard carry on his only rush attempt. NEW FACE, FAMILIAR NAME 4Quarterback Matt Joeckel is not the first member of his family to be a student-athlete at TCU. 4Joeckel s older sister, Sarah, was an all-conference volleyball player for the Horned Frogs and a three-year letterwinner from 2008-11. 4Joeckel s twin brother, Luke, was an offensive tackle at Texas A&M and the No. 2 overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2013 NFL Draft. THE GRADUATE 4Matt Joeckel, who has his degree from Texas A&M, arrived at TCU in June for his final season of college football. 4He played in 10 games with one start in College Station. His first collegiate start was in last year s season-opening 52-31 win over Rice. He completed 14- of-19 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown to help the Aggies to a 28-21 halftime lead. 4For his Texas A&M career, Joeckel completed 27- of-48 passes (56.3 percent) for 335 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

FROG DEFENSIVE NOTES A TCU TRADITION 4Since the NCAA began tracking statistics in 1937, TCU trails only Alabama for the most times leading the nation in total defense. The Crimson Tide have been No. 1 six times, while all five No. 1 rankings for the Horned Frogs are in the last 14 seasons. 4In 2010, TCU became just the third program in NCAA history to top the nation in total defense in three consecutive seasons (2008-10). The others are Toledo (1969-71) and Oklahoma (1985-87). FAMILIAR FACES RETURN IN 2014 4TCU returned nine starters on defense from a unit that led the Big 12 in rushing defense (130.8 yards per game) last season while placing a close second in total defense (356.4 yards per game). 4TCU was just 6.2 yards behind Oklahoma State in total defense, despite playing 40 more snaps. 4TCU finished 24th nationally in total defense (356.4 yards per game) last season but seventh for teams that played at least 886 snaps. STRONG DEBUTS 4TCU limited Samford to just 143 total yards, marking its fewest allowed since Grambling State was held to 70 yards on Sept. 8, 2012. 4Samford had just nine first downs, representing the fewest by a Horned Frogs opponent since Kansas had seven on Oct. 12, 2013. 4Samford s 56 passing yards were the lowest by a TCU opponent since Grambling State had 26 on Sept. 8, 2012. Patterson is one of just six current coaches with at least 100 victories at their current school. He became TCU s career wins leader with a 56-0 victory over Grambling State in the 2012 season opener, enabling him to break the previous mark of 109 wins by Dutch Meyer (1934-52). In August 2011, Patterson was named the nation s top coach by Sports Illustrated and ESPN The Magazine. Sporting News tabbed him in January 2012 as the nation s third-best coach. He was fourth in an SI.com July 2013 ranking of the nation s best coaches. In leading TCU to back-to-back BCS appearances in the 2009 and 2010 seasons, including a 2011 Rose Bowl championship, Patterson received 10 National Coach of the Year honors. Patterson has produced at least 10 wins in eight of the last 12 years, including seven seasons of 11 or more victories. He has helped lead the Horned Frogs to seven conference titles and 14 bowl games in 16 years. In 13 seasons as TCU s head coach, Patterson has had 33 players drafted with 72 in NFL camps.
