Its beginnings were in 1927 and have run continuously since. At its peak in the 1960 s and 1970 s it had over 450 members. Currently there are about 55 swimmers and 9 Life Members. The club is run by a volunteer committee consisting of 7 parents and a coaching team of 7 coaches. The club has a strong sense of community and prides itself in supporting swimmers of all capabilities to achieve their potential. Swimmers are encouraged to participate in a range of Club and District competitions to expose them to a healthy competition environment, including Winter Interclub, Metro North Aggregate, Metro North Proficiency, Metro North meets and other interclub meets. In its endeavour to support swimmers to achieve their best, if a swimmer shows outstanding potential the Club will support the swimmer to find further competitive outlets, whilst supporting them at the local level. ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA The following key selection criteria are required to successfully undertake the position of Head Coach: Coaching Qualification: Bronze Licence Coach Current CPR and First Aid Qualifications Current Working With Children Check Demonstrated competency and experience in correcting and developing stroke technique Demonstrated competency in implementing key training principles necessary to develop swimmers from junior to senior levels Proven experience in effective and sound communication with parents and swimmers Willingness to work collaboratively with the Committee of Management DESIRED SELECTION CRITERIA Experience in State Level Coaching/Training RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE HEAD COACH 1. Prepare and oversee training programs that engage swimmers from junior to senior levels and provide a standard of training that prepares those athletes for Club, District and State level competitions. 2. Uses independent judgement in the planning, assessment and delivery of training programs within the Club environment. 3. Adhere to the Club, Swimming Victoria, Swimming Australia and ASCTA policies. 4. Work with the swimmers to improve their stroke technique, race skills and fitness. 5. Organise competitions and meets as required. 6. Provide clear and consistent communication to swimmers and parents. 7. Provide supervision and mentoring to Assistant Coaches. 8. Manage the Assistant Coaches roster including coaching shifts, attendance at meets and time sheets. 9. Oversee and obtain feedback from Assistant Coaches regarding: - Weekly programs - Swimmer progress and performance at training sessions and competitions - Selecting swimmers for competitions or to advance to a higher squad - Swimmers with an injury/illness or behavioural issues

APPENDIX 2 PRSC Coach Roles and Responsibilities Head Coach Assistant Coaches Both - plan and set the training programs for each term - organise coaching shifts at the beginning of each term - plan the competition schedule for each term - notify committee and coaches about upcoming competitions - organise the competitions by emailing parents - organise coaches to attend competitions as required - organise coach meetings once a term (or as often as deemed necessary) - email the Treasurer the completed coach time sheet each half term - attend committee meetings - report back to the committee about matters discussed in coach meetings - report back to the coaches about matters discussed in committee meetings - notify the committee about any swimmers who attend training sessions they are not booked in for - notify the committee about any swimmers who are consistently late to training sessions - respond to new swimmer - implement the training programs set by the head coach - bring a copy of the relevant program to each training session - at the end of each term, email the head coach their coaching availability for the following term about any cover shifts they organised with another coach - attend coach meetings once a term (or as often as required) when one of their swimmers is ready to move squads which of their swimmers are eligible for upcoming competitions if a swimmer attends a training session they are not booked in for if a swimmer is consistently late to training sessions about any swimmers who display consistent - arrive 5 minutes early to all training sessions - collect club equipment required prior to start of training sessions - return all club equipment to locked container/cupboard at end of training sessions - complete the swimmer attendance sheet after each training session - organise another coach to take their shift if they cannot coach one of their allocated sessions - give out Swimming Victoria new member kits at the beginning of each term - determine when swimmers are ready to move squads - select swimmers who are eligible for upcoming competitions - attend competitions as required - ensure all relevant qualifications are kept up-to-date
