COMMUNITY SPORTS LINKS The Essington International School Darwin has a comprehensive sporting program for its students. This provides opportunities for students to participate in many sports at school, interschool, community, and international level. House Sport The House Sport program allows students to participate in a wider variety of sports during a school year. It also provides opportunities for students to participate in sport leadership within the school. Students are members of one of three School Houses who compete against each other. InterSchool Sport The Essington International School Darwin has a strong commitment to interschool sport, and participates in almost all interschool sport competitions offered by NT Schools Sport. Community Sports Basketball To provide additional opportunities for students to play together after school on week day evenings and Saturday, the school established community sporting opportunities through its own basketball club, the Essington Cannons. Other Sporting Links With Community Sporting Clubs The School has also developed links with other community sports clubs. These cover a range of sports including Soccer, Cricket, AFL, Netball, Rugby Union, Tennis and Hockey. The Clubs linked with The Essington International School Darwin are clubs who already have a large number of Essington students playing with them. Elite Sporting Students Students at The Essington International School Darwin who are participating at an elite level in their sport are recognised and assisted through the School s Elite Sports Program. The Director of Elite and Community Sport assists each student individually to manage their sporting and academic commitments during the school year. Special programs with sports scientists and sports psychologists are also organised to further enhance their development. International Sports Programs The School Basketball Club participates annually in the International Junior High School Basketball Competition in Malaysia. Other playing opportunities in Asia in the international school community, and national clubs, is being negotiated in Indonesia and the Phillipines. The School hopes to extend these programs to other sports.

For information about the Sports Program at The Essington International School Darwin, please contact: Director of Elite and Community Sport - Tim Weatherald tim.weatherald@essington.nt.edu.au Director of School Sport Angela Foley angela.foley@essington.nt.edu.au BASKETBALL (Challenge Season in Term 1 & 2, and Championship Season in Term 3 & 4) ESSINGTON CANNONS BASKETBALL CLUB In 2014 The Essington International School Darwin started a school basketball club to play in the Darwin Basketball Association (DBA) Competition on week nights and Saturday. The Essington Cannons Basketball Club now field boys and girls teams in the Under 12s, Under 14s, Under 16s, and Under 18s Age Groups. A group of Under 10 students is currently being trained to join the Darwin Basketball Association competition. In 2014 and 2015, 16 Years and Under Girls and Boys teams traveled to Kulim (near Penang), Malaysia to play in the International Junior High School Basketball Competition. Similar international playing opportunities are being negotiated with international schools in Jakarta, Indonesia, and clubs in Manila, Phillipines.
