One of the most dedicated and accomplished young coaches in the country, Webb will enter his tenth season at Belmont with the opportunity to continue his tremendous success as the school s all-time winningest coach. This season, Webb will lead the Bruins in their first season as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. During Webb's tenure, the Bruin program has simply redefined itself; enjoying marked improvement across the board. From facilities to recruiting; from academics to on-court performance, Webb has laid the groundwork for a winning tradition for years to come. The 2011 season saw five Bruins named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference teams, including three on the first team. Under Webb, 19 different Belmont players have been named to either the first or second team and 2011 marked the eighth consecutive year in which at least one Bruin was named to the first and second team. His consistent success coaching players to the top of the conference in individual performance is one reason Webb has become the winningest coach in school history. In nine years Webb has transformed the Bruins' roster into one of the most consistently talented lineups. In 2010, he became the youngest coach in Division I to reach 300 career victories. Since joining Belmont's staff, Webb has become a voting member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) weekly Top- 25 poll and a member of the AVCA's head coaches committee. 2012 ROSTER BREAKDOWN Returning Letterwinners (9) - 2011 Statistics Name Pos. All of the juniors have provided experience and consistent performances while on the Belmont roster. During her sophomore campaign, Jen Myer led the nation in service aces per set (0.79), led the conference in aces throughout the season and ranked in the top five in points. She also set a new school, conference and NCAA mark with 11 aces against Jacksonville in October. The Bruins also return two First-Team All-Conference performers in Hannah Miranda and Jamie Lundstrom. Lundstrom was also named the Libero of the Year in the Atlantic Sun. Miranda led the team in assists (1,161) last season while McCoy was the team leader in blocks with 82 total blocks. Lundstrom led the defense with 522 digs, she also posted 69 assists. OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE Belmont joins the Ohio Valley Conference this season. Last season, the Bruins claimed a share of the regular season Atlantic Sun title and earned two NCAA tournament appearances while a member of the ASun. Belmont looks to continue their success on the court in recent seasons in their new conference. NEWCOMERS Belmont welcomed five new freshmen in 2012, after losing only one starter from last year. The Bruins also welcome one transfer for the season. The newcomers, Jessica Vestal (Concord, Calif.), Jocelyn Youngdahl (Stillwater, Minn.), Regan Kennamer (Huntsvile, Ala.), Marissa Hine (Noblesville, Ind.) and Jenna Coleman (Goshen, Ky.) provide a mixture of power and athleticism, while also adding depth to the team. ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Belmont looks to continue another tradition during the 2012 season: a tradition of success in the classroom. Belmont University volleyball has earned the 2011-12 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. The Bruins, who received this honor for the fifth time in the past seven years, were one of 103 Division I schools to receieve the award this year. The AVCA Team Academic Award honors volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. Belmont held a team GPA of 3.495 during the 2011-12 school year, while 13 of the 14 team members posted a 3.0 GPA or higher. Moreover, 2012 graduate Maggie Johnson was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for volleyball. Five other OVC teams (Jacksonville State, Morehead State, SEMO, SIUE and UT Martin) were also honored with the Team Academic Award. NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE In keeping with his tradition of having one of the highest RPIs, head coach Deane Webb has again lined up a challenging non-conference schedule for the Bruins. The Bruins begin their season with the Belmont Invitational, competing against Alabama A&M, Northern Colorado and TCU before traveling to San Antonio for the UTSA Invitational. Other non-conference opponents include Montana State, Ohio and Niagara in the Ohio Invitational and Memphis, Louisiana and UIC in the Memphis Invitational, which will close out the team s non-conference schedule.
