Welcome to the 2014 Tour de Syracuse The 2014 Syracuse Race Weekend is a three-day, four-event points race. You may race one, two, or all four events. Those who start all four events are eligible for an overall prize list. There are also single-event prizes. Modifications The information in this race booklet may updated at any time. Check the Syracuse Race Weekend tab at http://onondagacyclingclub.org/for the latest information and update alerts. Registration Participants can pre-register for either the omnium or individual events on-line at bikereg.com until Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Saturday, May 18 th, there is Day Of Registration for the Criterium only. There is no day-of registration for the Time Trial. On Sunday, May 19 th, there is Day-Of registration for the Road Race. Time trial registration is only open to Omnium entrants. Race Schedule Race Sign-In For all Omnium entrants sign-in will occur once on Friday evening for the Marcellus Hill Climb. If you do not register at the hill climb, register at the first event you are participating in. There will be a registration table at all four events. For Omnium entrants no additional sign-in will be required one you have registered for your first event. If you are not entered in the full criterium but have registered for one or more of the single events, you still need only register once. You will be given your race numbers at sign-in, which you will use for every event you are participating in. Please do not loose, crumple or mutilate your race numbers. The numbers are Tyvek, which should last for the entire omnium. Reminder Start times are approximate. Pleasant Valley Time Trial Saturday, May 17 th, 2014 Marcellus Park - 2443 Platt Road, Marcellus, NY 13108 See race website for detailed map and most current race details, http://onondagacyclingclub.org/syracuse-race-weekend/course-information/ The TT is open to Omnium entrants ONLY Time Trial starts at 8:00 AM Saturday with individual start times posted Saturday at registration. All USA Cycling legal time trial bikes are allowed for this race. Important Notes: 20 second intervals between time trial racers, Racers will be started in two lines. Facing the starting line o o Odd numbered racers will line up the right line Even numbered racers will line up in left line The time trial will be available for 10-12 juniors, First group off Sunday morning Jr Boys/Girls 10-12. All other categories will follow in the same order as the road race categories, Racers MUST follow Rule 3E6 (b) and (c) of the 2014 USAC Rule book: No rider shall take pace behind another rider closer than 25 meters (80 feet) ahead or 2 meters (7 feet) to the side, o No two riders may ride abreast other than when attempting to pass and such attempts shall not be maintained beyond a distance of 500 meters. If the pass is not made cleanly within 500 meters, the caught rider must drop back to a distance 25 meters behind the rider who caught him Page 8

Onondaga Park Criterium Saturday, May 17 th, 2014 Upper Onondaga Park, Syracuse, NY Registration for the criterium opens at 10:00 AM and closes 1/2 hour before each race. If you are an omnium participant and have already registered for the hill climb or time trial, you do not need to register again. A map of the criterium course is located at end of bible. Tully-Otisco Valley Road Race Sunday, May 18 th, 2014 Tully High School, Tully, NY Map located at end of bible. See race website for a more detailed map and the most current race information, http://onondagacyclingclub.org/syracuse-race-weekend/course-information/ King of the Mountain/Queen of the Mountian The top three finishers across the KOM/QOM line will be awarded 3, 2 and 1 points that will go towards their Omnium score. For all racers regardless of the number of laps they complete the KOM/QOM line is located at the top of Oak Hill in, Otisco, NY. See online map for approximate location of line. For all racers completing 2 or 3 laps the KOM/QOM remains the same for each loop, awarding additional points as described above. General Race Information IMPORTANT General Information pertaining to all stages: Rider Numbers: Rider numbers must be worn on the RIGHT side and BACK for all races. The numbers must NOT be folded, trimmed or crumpled. Do NOT wrinkle your number, it is important that race officials can clearly see the number pinned to your jersey. Riders who deface their number will be assessed a 20 second penalty against the respective event they are racing in. 123 123 Rider Staging: Riders must report to the staging area at least five minutes before the start of your race to receive last minute announcements by officials. Mechanical Support: Team support follow vehicles ARE allowed. Wheel vans are currently planned but not guaranteed for the road race and will be wheel-in/wheel-out. There will be one wheel pit at the criterium near the start/finish line that will be wheel-in/wheel-out. Be sure to label your equipment and pick it up after your race. Syracuse Race Weekend staff will not be responsible for any lost equipment. Feeding: There is a feed zone in the road race for all races except the single lap categories. There is no feeding allowed from vehicles. The feed zone is on Song Mountain Road across from the maintenance facility and will be marked on the road and maps. There is no feeding during the hill climb, criterium or time trial. Page 12
Individual Scoring: Scoring will be based on points accumulated for top daily placing. Points breakdown for individual placing will be available at the race venues. See tail end of Race Bible for point breakdown and distribution. Juniors: As juniors entrants compete under USAC rules all junior must use restricted gears. Juniors must have their bicycles roll-out tested after the finish of each event to check that one revolution of the cranks does not cause the bicycle to travel more than 7.93 meters or 26 feet. Gear combinations which usually meet the restriction with standard 700c tires are 52x14, 47x12 or 53x15. Top gears may be blocked off by adjusting the derailleur upper limit screw. Roll out will be done adjacent to the finish area for each event. Results: Results and official notices will be available after each event. Results may be appealed until one hour prior to the start of the next stage. Page 13

Each map can be enlarged and opened in a separate browser window and directions to each location are readily found by entering your geographic location and obtaining directions to each race site. Event One and Two Marcellus Hill Climb and Pleasant Valley Time Trial Address is: 2443 Platt Road, Marcellus, NY 13108 Both the Hill Climb and the Time Trial are staged from the same location. Numbers go on the RIGHT SIDE and BACK for Time Trial. Omnium Racers are eligible to compete in the Time Trial. Start times will be posted at Onondaga Park following the Criterium. Event Three Criterium Directions to the criterium at Upper Onondaga Park in Southwest Syracuse, NY: From South: I81 to I690 W. Follow 690W to Geddes St then left on Geddes St. Continue on Geddes St south for a few miles. Continue up hill to stop sign with reservoir tank on the right. After stop sign proceed two blocks, then left on Crossett. Follow Crossett to park entrance (4 blocks). From North: I81S to West St exit. Follow signs to get onto West St. Make right onto Fayette St. Make left on Geddes St. Follow above directions for Geddes St. From East: I90 W to I481 S to I690 W to Geddes St. Follow above directions for Geddes St. From West: Page 14
I90 E to I690 E to West St exit. Turn right at end of exit, then left on Geddes St. Follow directions from the North above. Course Description The criterium is an approximately one mile loop with sweeping turns and an easy hill. The course is fully inside the park and will be completely closed to traffic. See tail end of Race Bible for Criterium Course Map. Numbers go on the RIGHT SIDE and BACK for the Criterium. No feeding is allowed during the criterium. There will be a number of primes throughout the criterium. Primes will be rewarded with a combination of prizes and Sprint Points. Racers will be made aware ahead of time when they will be racing for prizes or sprint points. Event Four Tully-Otisco Valley Road Race Directions to the road race at Tully High School, Tully, NY: From Anywhere: I81 to Tully, NY, Exit 14. Tully is approximately 14 miles south of Syracuse. Take route 80 east for ½ mile. The high school and parking lot are on the Right. Numbers go on the RIGHT SIDE and BACK for the Road Race. Team support vehicles are allowed. There will be wheel vans available but we do not guarantee they will be available for each field depending on final registration numbers and field sizes. Wheel vans will stay with the main pack at the official s discretion. Support is wheel-in, wheel-out. If the support vehicle fills (8 or more pairs of wheels), support will be neutral. There will be a sag wagon following the last rider on the course. If you become unable to ride to the finish, please follow the course to the nearest course marshal and wait for the sag wagon. We will also have Neutral Support provided by Bike Loft East. If your field is supported by BLE, then there is no need to provide spare wheels as their van is fully stocked. Please remember to return any borrowed wheels to Bike Loft East. Page 15
The road race course is OPEN TO TRAFFIC. Stay to the right of the yellow line at ALL times and to the right half of the road if there is no yellow line. Stay alert for traffic at all times. There is a busy marina at 13.1<double check mileage> miles into the race. STAY ALERT in this high traffic area. Watch for boats being towed into the roadway. The feed zone is on Song Mountain Road across from the maintenance facility. The start and the finish of the feed zone will be marked on the pavement. Feeding is only within the limits of the feed zone. FEED FROM THE RIGHT SIDE ONLY. RIDERS MUST STAY TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AT ALL TIMES. Feeding is not allowed for any 1-lap fields. Finish: The finish for the road race is on Meetinghouse Road in Tully. After crossing the finish line, proceed to the end of the road and turn left on State Street which will bring you back to the school parking lot on the left hand side. Please do not congregate at the finish line as the race officials and scorers will be very busy and need a clear view of racers. 1 lap race is approximately 27 miles 2 lap race is approximately 55 miles 3 lap race is approximately 82 miles Page 16
Points Omnium points breakdown and Distribution All events: Points will be awarded in the same format to the top twenty-five finishers in both the Criterium and Road Race with first place finishers of each receiving the highest point value. Point distribution for the top twenty-five is as follows: 40, 37, 34, 31, 28, 25, 22, 20, 18, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Road Race Primes: KOM and QOM will be awarded 3-2-1 for the first lap in each category. The KOM/QOM line is in the same for each lap, which is the top of Oak Hill Road. Criterium Sprints: Sprint points will be awarded for each category for 2 sprints 2-1 each sprint. Racers will be made aware ahead of time when they will be racing for sprint points. Breaking of a Tie: In case of a tie on total points, the tie will be broken in favor of the rider who has: 1. The most first place finishes or, if still tied, the most second place finishes, etc., or if still tied; 2. The highest placing in the last race, or the race nearest the last race of the omnium in which at least one of the tied riders placed. Page 17
