Debut) WHOA, WE RE HALFWAY THERE: The Chicago Cubs today reach the halfway point of their 2017 campaign with the middle game of their three-game set here in Cincinnati (0-1), the third and final stop of their 11-game, 11-day road trip that started on June 22 in Miami (2-2) and continued this week in Washington D.C. (2-2) after this series, the Cubs return to Wrigley for six games leading to the All-Star Break against Tampa Bay (July 4-5), Milwaukee (July 6) and Pittsburgh (July 7-9). At 40-40, the Cubs have nestled upon the.500 mark for the 17th time this season by way of various circuitous routes the Cubs have also been 1-1, 2-2, 6-6, 7-7, 16-16, 17-17, 18-18, 19-19, 25-25, 27-27, 30-30, 31-31, 32-32, 33-33, 34-34 and 39-39. For all intent and purposes, the Cubs tomorrow wrap up a 20-game road trip, as Cincinnati represents the sixth and final city of a stretch where the Cubs play six series in six different ballparks in this stretch, the Cubs are 9-9 after games at New York (1-2), at Pittsburgh (2-1), at Wrigley Field (2-1 vs. San Diego), at Miami (2-2), in Washington D.C. (2-2) and at Cincinnati (0-1). Despite last night s 5-0 loss, the Cubs finished the month of June with a winning 15-13 mark the Cubs have played above.500 ball in two of their three months this season (13-11 in April, 12-16 in May and 15-13 in June). West. Furthermore, the Cleveland Indians wake up on July 1 with a 2.0 game lead in the A.L. Central 2017 marks only the fifth time since the turn of the century that both defending pennant winners (starting in 2001 with the 2000 pennant winners) have been within two games of first place the year after they played in the World Series, joining the 2015 Giants and Royals, the 2011 Giants and Rangers, the 2005 Red Sox and Cardinals and the 2004 Marlins and Yankees. CENTRAL CASTING: The Cubs this weekend returned to N.L. Central action, ending an 11-day run outside of the division starting yesterday, the Cubs play seven of their last nine games leading up to the All-Star break against divisional foes.
