Eighty-seven of those were Terriers at the time they were drafted. The Terriers have had the third-largest number of draftees of any school, trailing only Minnesota and Michigan. The number drafted is the most of any Hockey East school. Ten Terriers have been drafted in the first round. Included in this list is Rick DiPietro, who played for the Terriers during the 1999-00 season. In the 2000 draft, DiPietro became the first goalie ever selected as the number one overall pick when the New York Islanders made him their top choice. In the 2012 Entry Draft, five incoming freshmen (three forwards, one defenseman, one goaltender) were selected. On the following pages is the list of Terrier players who have been drafted over the past 43 years. BOSTON UNIVERSITY MEN S ICE HOCKEY Sixty-five former Terriers have played in the National Hockey League. Three others (John Danby, Bob Brown, Ric Jordan) played for the New England Whalers of the World Hockey Association. Jack Kelley, who played for the Terriers from 1949-52, coached that team. Kelley went on to coach his alma mater from 1962-72 and establish himself as one of college hockey s legendary coaches.
