NEVADA SPIRIT TEAM TRYOUT PACKET Cheer/Pom/Stunt/Tumble/Mascot General Information May 1 ST, 2 ND & 3 RD It is recommended that you try out in person. There is an option to try out by video, IF you are competing in a competition or have prom. All Applications must be received by Tuesday, April 28 th. (Please note: the University mail system can take an additional 2-3 days to deliver.) The Nevada Spirit Program is made up of: Pom Individuals with some dance background, but also a background in cheer. Will perform at all Nevada games and events, will wear traditional cheer uniforms. Tumbling is not required. Cheer Individuals with strong cheer background will cheer at all Nevada games and events. Tumbling is recommended, but not required. Tumble - Individuals with strong cheer and tumbling background will cheer at all Nevada games and events. Tumbling is required- Minimum standing back tuck/round Off Back Tuck Stunt Female Individuals with strong cheer background, coed stunt/flying experience. Will cheer and stunt at all Nevada games and events. Tumbling is recommended, but not required. Stunt Male Individuals with an athletic background, with some coed stunt experience. Will stunt at all Nevada games and events. Tumbling is not required. Mascots Individuals with an athletic background, interested in performing in costume at all Nevada games and events. About the Nevada Cheer Program 2015-2016 The Nevada Spirit Program cheers for: Football, Volleyball, Men s and Women s Basketball. Members of the team coach young children ages 3yrs old thru middle school all year long thru the Perform with the Pack Program. Travel varies from year to year. There are no Scholarships available, but Spirit Members do get athletic privileges. Report Back for the Fall is August 7 th, Thanksgiving and Christmas Breaks are shortened do to game schedules. Practice for the 2015-2016 season will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 5pm-8pm.

WHERE: Tryouts will be held in the Virginia Street Gym on the University of Nevada Campus. A Campus map can be found at www.unr.edu. Please park in the Brian Whalen Parking Garage for tryouts. DATES & TIMES: May 1 ST, 2 ND & 3 RD Friday, May 1 st 4:30 check in / 5:00-8:30 Tryouts OPEN GYM tryouts are open to the public. Fight song will be performed. Interviews will be held. VIRGINIA STREET GYM check in at 4:30 NO EARLIER OPEN GYM 5:00p.m.-8:30p.m. No cuts will be made. Saturday, May 2 nd 10:00-8:00 10a.m.- 4:00p.m Tryouts are closed to the public. There will be a cut. Pom routine(s), Fight Song, Tumbling, Jumps, Spirit, Coed Stunts, etc. Tryout criteria will include, but is not limited to: Performance skills and facial expressions Comprehension of material Ability to conform to style and group of cheerleaders Execution and memory Level of technique Overall Ability well rounded performer/cheerleader Spirit / Ability to lead a crowd 5:00-7:00 open to the public for a charge of $5 per person. Show offs, Groups, Individuals Cuts will be posted prior to 8p.m. Sunday, May 3 rd 10:00-12:00 Tryouts will be from 10:00-12:00, closed to the public. Final cuts will be posted by 1:00p.m. If you make the team mandatory meeting, 1:00p.m.-5:00p.m. the entire meeting is mandatory and closed to the public, any flights or other engagements will need to be made after 6:00p.m. Plan accordingly! Clothing / Attire: Cheer/Pom/Stunt/Tumble/Female Mascots Mid-Riff/Tight-fitting athletic top, shorts (preferably sports bra and spandex) If you do not wear spandex, you MUST wear bloomers/spankies under your shorts. Friday - no colors mandatory (NO RED). Saturday - Black tops and Black Bottoms only. Sunday - White tops and Navy Bottoms only (no exceptions) Cheer Shoes Only! No Jewelry/ No Piercings / No Gum We are looking for a neat, well-kept collegiate appearance, look your best! Bows are encouraged. Bring Snacks and Water!

Tryout out for STUNT/CHEER/TUMBLE VIDEO Routines o Fight Song (Must be memorized and performed) o Cheer Sideline type routine Technical elements Tumbling starting with your lowest skill going to the most advanced. Both standing and running tumbling please. Jumps Two jumps: one toe touch, one jump of your choice. Cheer/Chant Please show your cheer and crowd skills. Coed Stunt starting with lowest skill to most advanced Tryout out for POM VIDEO o Fight Song (Must be memorized and performed perfectly) o Cheer Sideline type routine o 8 Eight counts of a hip-hop routine o 8 Eight counts of a dance style of your choice (Please highlight your strongest style) o Tumbling (Not required) starting with your lowest skill going to the most advanced. Nevada Spirit Program CONDITIONS/AGREEMENT Returners and Incoming Applicants MUST initial ALL conditions and sign this form to be considered for the 2015-2016 Spirit Team. UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA Waiver for Participation I,, am a student enrolled at, a member institution of the Nevada System of Higher Education ( NSHE ). I understand and hereby acknowledge that my participation in the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs is wholly voluntary. In consideration of being allowed to participate in the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs at the University of Nevada, Reno I hereby agree as follows: 1. I understand the nature of the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs I may participate in (i.e.: cheering, dancing, stunting, tumbling, jumping, conditioning) may require mental judgment and a high degree of physical fitness, agility, and dexterity, and that this may include strenuous exercise that requires physical fitness, strength, and stamina. 2. I understand that the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs described herein involve the risk of injury or death and the risk of damage to or loss of property. I understand that these activities involve serious dangers and inherent risks, including risks associated with travel to and from such activities in Nevada and California, as well as travel to and in mountainous regions and other remote places. I understand, accept, and voluntarily assume these risks. 3. I understand that neither the NSHE nor the University of Nevada, Reno, will provide medical or health insurance coverage to me during any aspect of my participation in the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs at the University of Nevada, Reno. I hereby represent and warrant that I am and will be covered throughout the activity by a policy of comprehensive health and accident insurance that provides coverage for injuries I may sustain in the course of my participation in the activity. I understand I may be required to show proof of insurance coverage prior to my participation in the activity. 4. UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA Certificate of Eligibility Nevada Spirit Program In order to be eligible for participation in the Nevada Spirit Program, Cheer, Stunt, Pom, Tumble or Mascot, the student must be accepted to the University of Nevada. If he/she is already a student at Nevada, then he/she must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA to try out for the team. The student must maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA per semester and maintain fulltime enrollment (12 credit hours) at Nevada if selected as part of the Nevada Spirit Program (Cheer, Stunt, Pom, Tumble or Mascot). All of the above requirements must be met prior to the semester the student will try out. If for any reason the student falls below full time or does not maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0, they may be suspended or removed from the spirit program. If the student does not fulfill any of the responsibilities of the Spirit Program, the student may be suspended or removed from the program. By signing this paper, I am authorizing the administration and staff of the University of Nevada to confirm my academic eligibility. If the student is successfully chosen as a member of the Nevada Spirit Program, this form will be held on file all year, for academic eligibility checks.
