THE ROUGH FIELD LEVELLED GARBH ACHAIDH COTHROMAIDHE

THE ROUGH FIELD LEVELLED RÉAMHRÁ AN CHATHAOIRLIGH CHAIRMAN S INTRODUCTION Hugh McAleer Chairman, Club Tyrone For the fourth year in a row I am delighted and humbled to report a record-breaking year for Club Tyrone. Your unstinting commitment to the Tyrone GAA cause has seen us shatter the 400,000 barrier this year. You, our Club Tyrone Members and Garvaghey Patrons have delivered donations of 444,000, an inspirational increase of 25% on what was already a record-breaking total last year. During 2013, your Committee was also central in securing the very healthy Hunky Dory s sponsorship and the pioneering Moy Park premium partnership. It is always good to see new people, businesses and industries step forward to become involved with Tyrone. We are honoured by their support. This year saw an abundance of other highlights for Tyrone Gaels. Our Senior and Minor footballers produced a Spring and Summer to remember. Our Club Championships attracted record crowds. Club Tyrone s Hunt for 100 was inspirational. And Tyrone GAA opened Garvaghey, a place and a concept that draws gasps of admiration from everyone who visits it. But as our Club Tyrone remit within Tyrone GAA also includes PR and Marketing, I can t let 2013 go by without remarking that the disappointing reality for some seems to be that the only good GAA story about Tyrone has to be a bad news story. Some people treated Tyrone GAA and the thousands of decent, honourable and selfless people in it unfairly and dishonestly this year. But 2013 is now past and we don t live there any more. Instead we look to 2014 and beyond. The Brehon Law principle of Ceart Dom, Ceart Duit Right for me means Right for you is deliberately written into one of our display panels at Garvaghey. It s there because we believe in it and we ll continue to move forward in that spirit. Part of that moving forward will involve more hard work for Club Tyrone. There s a 1.8m Garvaghey debt to be paid off. Tyrone GAA is likely to proceed with its Second County Ground project in the next few years. We now have Garvaghey to use, maintain and develop further. And all the while there s the core business of Tyrone GAA to resource teams, coaching, development squads, culture and heritage, games programmes. We will not be idle. As every Tyrone Gael knows and believes, the journey is never over. The next phases of it will be exciting and rewarding. A huge part of my reward is the privilege of working with the members of my Committee. They continue to rise to new heights with good humour, total commitment and an unwavering belief in what they do. Tyrone and its people are the richer for their presence. Aodh Mac Giolla Uír Cathaoirleach, Cumann Tír Eoghain AN BHLIAIN A BHÍ ANN THE YEAR THAT WAS IN IT Times remain difficult in many ways for Tyrone and its people. During 2013 the recession continued to bite hard here. Many of our youngest and brightest and best had to leave Tyrone for work. And pressures can gnaw away at people, in many ways. Yet it s in these times that we see and appreciate how the GAA is the courageous heartbeat of Tyrone. Adversity brings out the best in people in your case by making 2013 Club Tyrone s busiest and most successful year yet. PERFORMANCE IN 2013 Recruited 40 new Garvaghey Patrons bringing the total to 292 Recruited 127 new Club Tyrone Members in June under the Hunt for 100 banner, bringing our total to almost 400 Hosted a first-ever Tyrone GAA Race-Day at Down Royal in July which raised 18,000 Secured a gift aid tax refund of 26,768 from HMRC Secured the new Moy Park Premium Partnership arrangement for Tyrone Hosted the Annual Club Tyrone Members Night which this year held for the first time in Garvaghey - attracted a record audience of almost 400 people Oversaw and managed your contribution of 444,000 to the GAA in Tyrone via a work-plan approved by the Tyrone County Committee Met over 20 times and reported to each meeting of the Tyrone County Committee and, of course, since 21 February have been privileged to hold all those meetings in Garvaghey! HOW 100 BECAME 127 In late May we launched the Hunt for 100, a concerted drive to recruit 100 new Club Tyrone Members. The target was simple, though very testing to bring those 100 people on board between Tyrone s defeat to Donegal on 26 May and our first Qualifier game on 29 June. Whilst others elsewhere saw Tyrone s loss in Ballybofey as a deflating set-back, Tyrone s Gaels simply saw it as a challenge. We are in this for the long haul. A whole new team of recruiters stepped forward. Tyrone was divided into groups of Club areas. The marketing and selling began. We met weekly to review progress and plan ahead. By our final meeting on 27 June an amazing 127 new Club Tyrone Members had risen selflessly to the challenges posed by Ballybofey. They too are in this for the long haul. The neat end to the story? Club Tyrone logs in 127 new Members on 27 June. Tyrone Seniors then score 1-27 in Tullamore on 29 June. Somebody somewhere Next year of course, le cuidiú Dé, we start again! And we ll be calling on your help. Are you up for it? CLG THÍR EOGHAIN WORKING TO DEVELOP AND PROMOTE GAELIC GAMES AND TO FOSTER LOCAL IDENTITY AND CULTURE ACROSS TYRONE 2 3
