2017 2018 GREATER IOWA SCHOLARSHIP BOWLING TOUR SUNDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2017 CADILLAC LANES WATERLOO, IOWA OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER EVENT # 256 THANKS TO OUR 2017-2018 TITLE SPONSORS STORM BOWLING EQUIPMENT SPECIAL THANKS TO TROPHY KING OFFICIAL AWARDS SPONSOR OF THE GISBT IN 2017-2018 STUBLER CAPTURES TITLE IN TOUR DEBUT EWING RETURNS TO WINNER S CIRCLE FOR 2nd TIME STUBLER OPENS WITH 300 & 821 ON WAY TO VICTORY Nate Stubler jumped out of the gate quickly at this month s GISBT event, cranking out a 300 in his very first game of competition. From there, he completed an opening 3-game set of 821, and he utilized that quick start to qualify 2nd just 26 pins out of the lead. Once match play began, he was one of the more consistent finalists, and in the end, he ground out a hard-fought win over leader Billy Hibbard to earn the title. Stubler has won on the Illinois scholarship circuit, but this was his first foray into GISBT competition, and it appears he has a bright future ahead. CHAMPION VICTORIOUS IN TOUR DEBUT Earning a victory in a player s tour debut has not happened often during the 26 seasons of GISBT competition. The last time this occurred in the boy s division was more than 8½ years ago in April 2009 when Rob Meinert of Freeport, Illinois achieved victory in Cedar Rapids. By averaging 236.56 for his 16 games, Stubler became the 105th different boy s champion in the 26- season history of the GISBT. He claimed a permanent place on Champion s Row, the winner s plaque and a $350 scholarship. Congratulations, Nate!

HIBBARD SHARP, CLAIMS RUNNER-UP HONORS Billy Hibbard snuck into this month's match play finals, qualifying just 7 pins ahead of the 9th spot. But he made the most of the opportunity, steadily moving up the leaderboard during match play. He eventually took the lead heading into the position round, but suffered a 223-181 defeat at the hands of the eventual champion. This was the 6th match play finals of his career, and he was rewarded with a $225 scholarship for his runner-up finish. TALENTED 90 PLAYER FIELD COMPETE AT CADILLAC An impressive starting field consisting of 90 competitors (55 boys and 35 girls) took to the lanes in Waterloo for this month s tour stop. It was a strong contingent, with 13 past champions among the starters; this baker s dozen had combined their talents to amass 40 GISBT championships in their careers. There were also 11 bowlers making their GISBT debut at this month s event. Welcome to all of our new and returning members! 8-TIME CHAMP DODGE SNARES 3rd Anthony Dodge was this month's 3rd place finisher. The stocky southpaw, already an 8-time tour champion, led the field after qualifying, as he rolled into his 21st tour finals, and earned a $200 scholarship for his 3rd place finish this month. As a result of his performance, the 20 year-old moved into a tie with Adam Morse in a race for this season s Bowler of the Year with 4 regular season events remaining on the schedule. DEER POSTS BEST FINISH ON TOUR WITH 4th PLACE SHOWING Russell Deer, a 20-year old from Harvey, Illinois, was this month's 4th place finisher. The 2-hander rallied late in match play to move into 4th place, earning a $175 scholarship for his efforts. This was the 3rd match play appearance for Deer. In March 2016, he burst onto the scene by finishing 7th at the Big Weekend event in Davenport, and cranking out a pair of perfect games in the process; the very next month he went on to finish 6th in Cedar Rapids. This month s 4th place showing is the highest finish of his tour career. COBLE PARLAYS 300 & 816 TO 5th PLACE FINISH Hard-throwing Braxton Coble finished 5th at this month's event; the 19 year-old from Ottumwa, Iowa took home a $150 scholarship for his performance. Coble was appearing in the 6th match play finals of his career. The talented right-hander opened his day with a perfect game, and an 816 series. BAKER FINISHES 6th Caleb Baker returned to the match play finals for the 2nd time this season. This time around, he finished 6th, earning a $150 scholarship for his day's work. Earlier this season, smooth-rolling 2-hander from Alexandria, Minnesota finished 7th at the September tour stop in Waterloo. MORSE, IN 29th FINALS, PLACES 7th Adam Morse continues his impressive stretch of bowling. This month, he qualified for the 29th finals of his stellar career, and he eventually wound up in 7th place, earning a $125 scholarship. The 5-time champion from West Des Moines, Iowa is competing in his final season of GISBT competition. Morse was one of 3 past champions in this month's finals field.

CHAVEZ 8th IN FIRST MATCH PLAY APPEARANCE Jordan Chavez rounded out this month's match play field; the talented 18 year-old from New Lenox, Illinois finished 8th, earning a $110 scholarship. Chavez was appearing in just his 2nd GISBT event, and he was one of 2 players making their match play debut at this month s event. This month's high game out of the money went to Eric Ullian, of New Lenox, Illinois. The 18 year-old was making his tour debut, and fired an impressive 289 during his first game of qualifying to earn the $50 scholarship. EWING RETURNS TO WINNER S CIRCLE FOR 2nd TIME EWING A WINNER FOR THE 2nd TIME For most of this month s event, Kayla Ewing was content to play second-fiddle to her collegiate teammate Hayley Ryan. The 20 year-old from Rockford, Illinois was consistent, and sharp throughout the event, but couldn t keep up with the stellar pace being set by Ryan. However; when Ryan struggled over the closing matches, Ewing saw the door open, and she took full advantage of the opportunity by firing a 241 in game #5 to grab a 2-pin lead heading into the position round. Once there, she was absolutely dominant, posting a 279-197 victory over the longtime leader to claim the 2nd title of her blossoming career. Last season, Ewing claimed her first win on tour at the April event in Cedar Rapids. This month was her 5th appearance in the match play finals. The champion averaged 233.64 for her 14 games, claiming the winner s plaque and a $300 scholarship. The impressive performance helped Ewing zoom from 12th all the way into 4th place on this season s girl s points list. Congratulations, Kayla! RYAN & KIRSCHBAUM FIRE 300's, TAKE 2nd & 3rd Hayley Ryan and Jordyn Kirschbaum each enjoyed career highlights at this month's tour event. Ryan, a 21 year-old left-hander from Piqua, Ohio, and Kirschbaum, a 21 year-old right-hander from Kenosha, Wisconsin each stroked the first 300 game of their respective careers. Ryan was red-hot in qualifying, averaging 245 for her first 8 games, as she established the 3rd highest girl s qualifying total in tour history. The southpaw grabbed the lead early in the morning, and didn't relinquish that lead until the final 2 games of match play. She trailed the eventual champ by 2 pins heading into the position round. There, she struggled early while Kayla Ewing was finding her best form of the day, and the 3-time tour champion took home the $200 scholarship for finishing runner-up. This was the 10th match play finals of her career. Meanwhile, Kirschbaum returned to the match play finals for the 2nd time in her career. The talented right-hander finished the finals in sharp form by following up her 300 game with a solid 234 in the position round, and the strong finish moved her into 3rd place; she won a $175 scholarship for her efforts. PAST CHAMP HUDDLESTON TAKES 4th Kelly Huddleston began this season by earning her first tour victory. She followed that up with a 3rd place finish in September, and this month, she added a 4th place showing to her list of accomplishments. The right-hander from Papillion, Nebraska won a $175 award for her performance. PETERSEN PLACES 5th Nicole Petersen rolled into this month's tour stop as the tour s hottest player, having won the 2 most recent tour stops in Cedar Rapids and Muscatine. While her win-streak was halted, she did turn in another solid performance, finishing 5th. The 21 year-old from Cedar Rapids, Iowa earned a $125 scholarship for her day s work. This was the 14th match play finals appearance of her career, and she maintained her lead in the race for Bowler of the Year honors.

COUREY CLAIMS 6th Cassidy Courey qualified for the 7th match play finals of her tour career this month, and it led to a 6th place finish. The smooth-stroking right-hander from Minneapolis, Minnesota carted away a $110 scholarship for her efforts. 11 year-old Keira Magsam claimed this month's $50 high game out of the money award for the 255 she tossed during her qualifying round.
