Traditional Monteria in Spain The traditional driven hunt known as Monteria is one of the most exciting hunts you can find in Spain. Hundreds of dogs and beaters drive Red Stags, Fallow Stags, Mouflon and Wild Boar towards the waiting guns. A really unforgettable experience. Well trained hunters have the chance to harvest huge bags.
The Monteria The traditional driven hunt in Spain is called Monteria. On this very special hunt you a hunting Red Stags, Fallow Stags, Mouflon, Wild Boars and Hinds. Huge amount of dogs (sometimes 200) and beaters are chasing the game around the waiting guns. After the 4-5 hour hunt all guns are meeting for a nice long lunch while the helpers are preparing the honoring of the game. A normal line has between 20-35 guns. Shooting distance is between 50-200 m. Hunting period for Monteria is from September till February.
The Hunt The Monteria starts around 9 with a nice breakfast at the hunting Lodge. After drawing the pegs you will be at your stand around 11 and the hunt starts. Around 200-300 dogs, beaters and horseman start to drive the game. After 4-5 hours the hunt is over and you are collection your trophies and check your shoots. After a great Lunch at the Lodge and honoring the game and some nice drinks and stories you will return to the hotel. After some relaxation and a nice dinner you are prepared for the second day.
The Accommodation During the hunt you will be accommodated in very traditional Posadas, Cortijos, small Country Hotel, Luxury Hotels or traditional Hunting Lodges, depending of the area. Enjoy the warm Spanish hospitality, the great food and the superb wines of the different regions. You will be transferred to the hunting ground and back to the hotel every day.
