PWHS CHARACTER COUNTS Girls Cross Country by Joe Adamak ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Sep 15, 2018 Cassidy Yuhas Cassidy Yuhas is a senior on the PWHS girl's tennis team. This year Cassidy played #2 singles and also served as captain. Her positive attitude and leadership skills have been beneficial to the team this year. Cassidy's determination and focus has helped her win critical points and to come back and take matches to a third set. The use of her depth and placement led her to win a close match against St. Catherine's High. Cassidy, in additions to tennis, is a member of Spanish Club, DECA and volunteers in the community. Cassidy is looking to attend Marquette University, UW- Madison or University of Notre Dame. Congratulations Cassidy on a great season! We wish you all the best in your future endeavors! The JV team took center stage this past weekend at UW Parkside. The Pirates placed all ten runners in the top 60 of the 260 runner field. That was good enough for 2nd place out of 34 teams. The Pirates ended with 58 points just behind Brookfield Central which had 36 points. Third place was DSHA with 105 points. Leading the way for the Pirates were Katie Erlandson (2nd Overall of 260 Runners), Emma Goodman (7th), Claire Woods (15th), Molly Fyhrlund (16th) and Grace Schumacher (18th). Also finishing strong for the Pirates were Noel Konitzer (32nd), Kayla Hartmann (33rd), Rebekah Stacey (38th), Ashley Tourangeau (51st) and Emily Eckert (60th). 4 P age

Looking towards the end of the season, seven of the eight teams ahead of Port in the standing were D1 schools and the other team Aquinas is a D3 school. GIRLS SWIMMING & DIVE by Dani Peiffer Boys Varsity Soccer by Sean O Brien Girls Varsity Tennis by Melonie Zielinski Sep 13, 2018 PIRATES: 0 CEDARBURG: 1 The Pirates continued conference play with two tough NSC opponents (three if you count Mosquitoes). Up first for the Pirates was Nicolet. The Pirates hung around in the first half keeping the score 1-0. The second half proved the difference maker as the Knights put 3 more goals past the Pirates for a 4-0 win. On Thursday the Pirates traveled to Cedarburg to take on the Bulldogs. Injury and illness forced the Pirates to get creative with their lineup against the # 2 team in the area. Always up for a challenge, the Pirates went into half-time tied 0-0. It wasn't until the 73' that the Bulldogs were able to find the back of the net. The Pirates pushed forward in an effort to find an equalizer but time was not on their side. Impressive effort by all players but a shout out to seniors Ben Hughes and Skylar Shafer for playing a new position in a very tough game. Also filling big minutes were Wyatt and Carson Roller. Good Luck on Tuesday vs. the Orioles Sep 15, 2018 PIRATES: 22 Scores: Port placed 11th out of 12, but scored 22 more points than last year. We had 6 girls contribute to the team score in 4 individual events and 2 relays. Meet Highlights: Our first invite of the season and the girls definitely had their heads in the game. 6 girls helped get points on the board. Top scorers were Freshman Kamryn Lapacek (7 points) and Sydney Hannert (9 points) placing in both their individual events. Nice job, girls! Complete Results: https://portwashingtonathlet ics.org/main/teamarticle/id/ 48327/articleid/47221860 The girl s tennis team faced competitive competition against Cedarburg this week. Kaylee Doll was able to use pace and depth to keep rallies going with her opponent. While Morgan Stone and Ashley Zygowski used net play to end significant points. The varsity team lost to Cedarburg 0-7. We also played Milwaukee Lutheran in a nonconference meet and went 2-5. Chloe and Tess Schueller used effective placement and communication to win in straight sets. Somers Welton and Jessica Boccio also got a win for Port through the use of their serves and placement at the net. This week is the last week of conference matches before the varsity team will compete in the conference tournament and subsectionals. Come cheer on the tennis girls as they take on Hartford this Tuesday at home! 6 P age
