Devils Report PALMWOODS WESTERN DISTRICT JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB PO BOX 294, BRIGGS PARK, 63 JUBILEE DRIVE, PALMWOODS Email: palmwoodsdevils@hotmail.com Club President Richard White I SSUE 17 2015 Devils News ABN: 65 738 759 910 T HURSDAY J ULY 16TH I never thought I would have to write a letter like this one, as a father and a coach all you ever want for your kids is for them to grow up have fun be happy and healthy but sadly on Sunday the 12th July, I got a phone call no one wants to get. One of our former players Mark Kerr had passed away. Mark would have been in the under 14s this season and played in our team in under 9 s,10s and 12s, he was super keen to sign on in the 13s last season but became ill before the season kicked off. Like most of our kids he loved his footy and I can still remember his mum telling me about the time they got the grounds mixed up and went to Caboolture instead of Caloundra, she reckoned Marky cried all the way home because he missed his game of footy, he just loved it that much. It can be very hard when you re the only kid from your school in a team as Mark was but he was really starting to find his place in the team by the end of the under 12s season, tackling like a machine and hitting the ball up like a champ. We will be holding 1 minutes silence in honour of this young Champion before the under 14s game this weekend and players from the club are asked to wear black arm bands. Rest in peace Marky Mark Forever your coach Henry. Devils Report Page 1

Presidents Report:- Hello to All, I hope everyone had a great holiday break and are ready and refreshed for the last few weeks of the season. This weekend see s all our club teams playing at home. It is going to be a very big day so we need all hands on deck to help out. A big thank you to all of our volunteers that work tirelessly at our great little club each and every week. Also a reminder of the Leagues CODE OF CONDUCT for all Players, Coaches, League Safes, FAO s and spectators. A copy of the CODE is available in the club house. Our club will be having a minutes silence before the U14B game on Saturday to remember the life of a young Palmwoods Devil Mark Kerr who lost his battle over the weekend. RIP Mark. Have a great weekend s Rugby League everyone. GO THE DEVILS Richard White Club President THANK YOU To our Sponsors HOODIES HAVE ARRIVED. CANTEEN Hi to you all the Devils family. Hope you all enjoyed your time off from footy these school holidays and the weather has been great. Many happy parents out there as back to school and footy next week. Thank you to our special volunteers on Saturday game day Angela Lea U10's/ U11's who came in early 7.30am - till last game. Angela you are a legend and she is only weeks away from giving birth. Rhonda Paterson U11's and Emma Mills U10's/U12's who stayed back and helped clean down the canteen at days end. Thank you also to Glenda Atkinson and Rhonda Paterson who are helping out on both training days. Can you please come and give a hand in the canteen as we are only getting a couple volunteers all day on game days. If everyone can give an hour than we all can see our kids play their games. That is why as a club we ask that you come an hour before you game then you can go and watch you child's game. The canteen can not run smoothly if we can't serve our customers quickly as there is not enough volunteers to get to them. So then many visiting teams grow impatient and leave the canteen not happy and don t spend money over the counter. This weekend we have a very big game day with 10 games at home so I need at least 4 volunteers each time slots please. Also please wear enclosed footwear while in the canteen and no kids allowed in canteen for safety reasons. This area is not for kids of any age. Our Devil Meal Deal this week is Cheeseburger/Chips $5 or Hot Chips $3. Thank you to everyone's continuing support in and around this might club. Best of luck all Devil teams this weekend and Go Devils!!!!!!!!!!! Cheer Louise THANK YOU To our Sponsors Devils Report Page 4

Who doesn t love a good meat tray? Even better if you win one Thanks to our good sponsor Woombye Butchery every Friday afternoon from 4.30pm the Palmwoods Devils run the raffles at The Palmwoods Hotel Here s the month s roster for July: UNDER 14 S REPORT (27th June) Palmwoods 40 Maroochydore 22 We headed down to M/dore this week to take on the swans, After a very sombre start to the day with players from M/dore and Coolum u11s and Palmwoods and M/dore under 14s taking to the knee for Ackers it was time to get out there and play the game he loved so much, It didn t take long for the boys to get the scoreboard ticking over and by half time the score was 22-6. The 2 nd half was a very different game indeed with the Swans coming out and getting the better of some rough calls and putting on a couple more tries and before we knew it, it was 28-18 and the boys needed to lift there game, I had rested a few of our more renowned strike weapons to give the other boys a chance to get some good game time and while on the bench one said to me it s really hard to get into this game, now whether it was the fact we knew we had them covered I don t know but we were very flat indeed, The boys soon got it together and clicked up another gear and skipped away to a 40 18 lead before we once again got a rough call on the hooter to finish it at 40-22, I may have said something under my breath about it being a knock on and as I shook the Swans players hands the young bloke smiled at me and said you were right it was a knock on haha That s footy for ya. All in all not a bad day after the Tragedy that has shaken our great game to the core. I put a call out to the team that even though we would not be at home this week that we had a tin back at the club house raising a few bucks for Ackers, I was so proud to see the boys coming up to me with their gold coins or notes and asking if I could put it in the tin. Great work boys. RIP James. Cheers Henry Devils Report Page 5
