This is the Lobos third appearance in the MWC finals, with the last one coming in 2005. That year New Mexico fell to the Rebels 1-0 in double overtime SERIES HISTORY AGAINST BYU New Mexico trails the series with BYU 4-14-2. The last meeting between the two squads came on Oct. 16 when senior Kate Wyrick scored the game-winning goal for UNM as she found the back of the net in the 102nd minute of double overtime to defeat the Cougars, then ranked No. 8, 1-0. The last time the two teams met in the MWC Championships came on Nov. 5, 2009 as the Lobos lost 1-0 in semifinals. The Lobos and the Cougars have met one other time in the MWC championship game when BYU defeated New Mexico 5-1 on Nov. 9, 2002. OVERTIME STREAK New Mexico has had five consecutive double overtime games, with the first one coming in the last meeting against BYU in Albuquerque, N.M. The Lobos have a record of 3-0-2 during this time and have an overall record of 3-0-5 in double overtime games this season. IN THE NEUTRAL ZONE The Lobos have a record of 3-0-1 on neutral fields this season. LOBOS IN THE POLLS New Mexico is ranked No. 24 in this week s Soccer America magazine poll. The squad is also recieving votes in this weeks NSCAA and Soccer Times polls. TOPPING THE MOUNTAIN New Mexico was picked to finish fifth overall in the MWC by the conference s head coaches in August. ON A ROLL The Lobos have a current unbeaten streak of 8-0-2, setting a school record with 10 games. Their MWC record of 5-0-2 sets a new school record for an unbeaten streak in conference competition. The last time a New Mexico squad had a six game unbeaten streak in league action spanned the 1995-96 seasons when the school was a member of the Western Athletic Conference.

Lobo junior Jael Fanning scored her second goal of the season as the squad continued their conference run. UNM is now 11-1-4 on the season and 5-0-1 in Mountain West Conference play. New Mexico claimed a guaranteed share of the Mountain West Conference title with the tie and secured the top seed heading into the conference tournament which will take place Nov. 3-6 in San Diego, Calif. BATTLING THE RECORDS The tie at Wyoming extended the Lobos current unbeaten streak to 7-0-2, setting a school record with nine games. Their MWC record of 5-0-1 ties the school record for an unbeaten streak in conference competition. The last time a New Mexico squad had a six game unbeaten streak in league action spanned the 1995-96 seasons when the school was a member of the Western Athletic Conference. PERFECT AT HOME New Mexico compiled a 6-0-0 record on the squads home field, securing the first undefeated season at the UNM Soccer Complex since joining the MWC. PROTECTING THE GOAL New Mexico s defense has only allowed six goals in 17 games throughout the season and have not allowed an opponent to score more than one goal in a match. MONTANA TOURNAMENT New Mexico defeated Boise State 1-0 in the final day of the Montana Tournament on Sept. 19. The Lobos improved to 6-1-3 on the season with the victory over the Broncos, who are set to join the Mountain West Conference in 2011. Junior Jordan Craig secured the win for the Lobos as she netted a 15-yard shot inside of the left post in the70th minute. Craig s goal came off a pass from Roxie McFarland. New Mexico defeated North Dakota, 2-0, Sept. 17 in the opening round of the Montana Tournament. The Lobos posted their sixth shutout of the season while improving to 5-1-3 overall. Lobo junior Jennifer Williams and sophomore Rachel Montoya each netted a goal. UNM dominated the box score and outshot the Fighting Sioux, 27-3. DOUBLE-OVERTIME DRAW The Lobos battled North Texas to 1-1 draw in double overtime Sept. 5 at the North Texas Soccer Field. Senior Rachel Fields led the Lobos as she scored her fourth goal of the

season and eighth of her career. LOBOS GAIN EDGE IN RIO GRANDE RIVALRY The first-ever women s soccer game between the New Mexico Lobos and the New Mexico State Aggies went the way of UNM Sept. 3 at the Lobo Soccer Complex. The Lobos won 1-0 on a goal by Rachel Fields at the 58:46 mark of the second half. CORNELL NAMED MWC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK New Mexico sophomore goalkeeper Kelli Cornell was named Mountain West Conference Women s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 30. It is the first conference award for the Lobos this season and the fourth of Cornell s career. She received the honor three times as a freshman. RACKING UP THE AWARDS Goalkeeper Kelli Cornell was named Most Valuable Player for the Milwaukee Cup and was joined on the all-tournament team by Lobo teammates Jennifer Williams, Rachel Fields, Amanda Collins and Roxie McFarland. NEW MEXICO CLAIMS MILWAUKEE CUP TITLE The Lobos defeated No. 23 Marquette 1-0 in overtime in the championship game of the Milwaukee Cup. The Lobos improved to 3-0-1 on the season as junior Jennifer Williams scored the game-winning goal in the 97th minute. UNM moved to 2-0-1 on Aug. 27 after a double-overtime 1-1 draw with the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. Lobo sophomore Zaneta Wyne netted the lone goal for New Mexico in the 53rd minute. Wyne scored her seventh career goal and her second of the year. LOBOS THRIVE IN SHUTOUT The squad recorded its second win of the season as the Lobos defeated Nebraska 3-0 on Aug. 22 at the UNM Soccer Complex. The Lobos were able to capitalize on their scoring opportunities as they found the back of the net three times with seven shots on goal. Nebraska finished the game with eight shots on goal but a stellar performance by sophomore goalkeeper Kelli Cornell and the New Mexico defense prevented the visiting squad from scoring. Cornell was credited with seven saves in the game as she kept the Cornhuskers off the scoreboard and secured her second shutout of the season and 15th of her career. The shutout moved Cornell into the fourth spot on the Lobos all-time school records list for shutouts in a career. NEW MEXICO VICTORIOUS IN SEASON OPENER The team defeated Montana 7-0 in its season opener on Aug. 20. Seven Lobos combined for seven goals in front of a crowd of 1,206 at the UNM Soccer Complex. Jennifer Williams led the offensive charge for New Mexico with a goal, two assists and two shots on goal in only 36 minutes of action. New Mexico led the match in all categories, holding the Grizzlies to only one shot in 90 minutes. The Lobos took 15 shots in the game, with a total of 10 shots on goal and four assists. UNM put 23 players on the pitch with freshman Liz Nare earning her first action for the Lobos with a start at defender. 18th SEASON OF LOBOS WOMEN S SOCCER BEGINS Aug. 20 marked the start of the 18th season of Lobo women s soccer.
