Assignments involved case studies developed from my M.S. research project and group projects modified from existing datasets to engage students in selecting the appropriate gear for each water body. Examining micro-scale spawning phenology and its effect on fish recruitment and presenting these results at multiple conferences. 2. Development and evaluation of recruitment bottleneck models for recreationally important fishes in Nebraska. Poster presentation received two awards for academic excellence from the College of Biological Sciences and Department of natural resource management at the 2013 Undergraduate Research Scholarship and Creative Activity Day. 2011-present: Aaron Andrews (SDSU): 1. Evaluated resource overlap between juvenile bluegill and yellow perch in a Nebraska Sandhill lake. Presented results at multiple AFS meetings. 2. Preparing a peer-reviewed manuscript for eventual publication that will evaluate morphology differences in juvenile bluegill and yellow perch across different habitats. 2010-2012: Kristopher Stahr (SDSU): 1. Guided and assisted with an independent undergraduate research project relating to bluegill cohort contribution. Research results were presented at multiple meetings and published in Pond Boss magazine. 2. Project resulted in a publication of a popular article in Pond Boss magazine. 2009-2010: Paul McKenna (SDSU): Developed an independent research project to study the effects of PIT tags on two fish sizes and body morphology types.
