Missouri DeMolay Conclave Sports Rulebook
General Rules 1. In order to participate in any sports events, players must compete in two ritual events. If a player does not meet ritual requirements, the player forfeits all individual and team sports. If an unqualified player participates in team sports, the team will forfeit the game. 2. For all divisional events, the category will be determined as follows: a player is to give their age as of the date Conclave begins i.e. Friday evening. Players 15 and below will be in the Junior division and players 16 and up will be in the Senior division. 3. In the case of a tie, winners will be based on Sports Officials discretion. Sports Officials will consider player participation in sports, ritual, personal conduct and attitude during Conclave. 4. A sports official will be assigned to each court to keep score and maintain team player rosters. All name badges of DeMolay who will be playing the game need to be turned into the sport official in order to record players names on the game rosters. 5. Time will be set to Dad Absheer s watch. 6. Athlete of the Year will be determined by the individual DeMolay who earns the most awards. 7. Individual and Sportsmanship Awards will be determined based on the Sports Officials and State Officers discretion. 8. The Overall Sports Champion will be determined by the Chapter who earns the most awards. Basketball - Team Event a minimum of 5 players are required for play - Team rosters must be filled out on an individual game basis. - Games consist of two 10 minute halves with a 5 minute halftime - Clock will continuously run Billiards - Individual Event, single elimination - Players will not be divided by division, the top three individuals will be awarded trophies - If a player is not present within 15 minutes of slotted start time for billiards, player forfeits the right to play - Games will have a ten minute time limit - Scratch on the break, game continues shooter forfeits turn - There is no ball in hand - If you scratch while making a shot, the sunken ball(s) come out - If a player taps the cue ball on a shot, player does not lose their turn - If a player makes their shot and then sinks the opponent s ball, the player continues their turn - If a player sinks the opponent s ball and then makes their shot, player loses their turn - You must call the pocket for an 8 ball shot - Scratch on the 8 ball, game over shooter loses - When the game is finished, winning player needs to report to Sports Official present
Bowling - Team and Individual Event - Team events require 4 players per team. Top 4 bowlers will form players for 1 st team chapter; Next 4 top scores will form 2 nd team chapter, etc. - Multiple chapter teams are allowed - Top 3 individual bowlers will be awarded trophies - Score sheets must include Chapter name and all players first and last names. - Incomplete bowling score sheets will be disqualified. Turn score sheets into any Sports Official - Adults are allowed to bowl however, scores will not count - Missouri DeMolay will pay for shoe rental and one game. Players are welcome to continue to play at their own cost - An advisor from each Chapter MUST monitor how many games members play after their free one. Chapters will be held responsible for any costs after that. Dodgeball - Team Event no more than 5 players on the court at one time - Majority vote from Chapters will determine game to be played; one vote per chapter - Team rosters must be filled out on an individual game basis. - Teams can be made up of a maximum of 6 players with up to 4 substitutions - The same 10* players must play all matches in the tournament (*up to 10 players) - Substitutions must be made prior to the start of the game; no substitutions can be made during a game, except in the cases of injury - Teams will designate retrievers for ball that go out of bounds. Retrievers cannot be active players. Retrievers may be players who are deemed out. Retrievers may not enter the court at any time. Retrievers are only allowed to field balls from their side of the court. - A match will be considered won from the best 2/3 game win bases OR by the most members on a side at the end of 7 minutes
- Upon official s signal, both teams rush to center court and attempt to retrieve as many balls as possible. A team may rush with as many or as few of their members. There is no limit to how many balls an individual player may retrieve. - Crossing over the center line at the beginning of a game will result in an out - Player may not slide or dive head first to get a ball from the center line - After retrieval of a ball at the start of a game, a player must go completely behind the attack line before the ball is live - There are no time outs - A player shall be deemed out: (i) when a live-thrown ball hits any part of the player s body or clothing; (ii) if a player is hit by a live-thrown ball rebounding off another player or (iii) if an offensive player throws a ball and the ball is caught by defending team - Players can defend themselves by blocking the ball in flight with another ball but must retain control over the ball they are blocking with. A player dropping or losing possession of the blocking ball is deemed out - An official can determine if a player or team or both teams are stalling and will give a warning. Upon refusal to actively play, the official may call a player - If a defensive player catches a live-thrown ball, then a teammate comes back into play for the defensive team - Headshots are not counted as an out but are frowned upon doing and the official has fair cause to call a player out if they persist on throwing headshots Free Throw Shot - Individual Event before beginning event, player will need to give their name, chapter and age to Sports Official - Player shoots 15 shots from the free throw line - If a player steps over the line before shot is thrown, shot is disqualified - If there is a tie, player with the most consecutive shots made wins. If a tie still results, winners will be based on Sports Officials discretion. Three Point Shot - Individual Event before beginning event, player will need to give their name, chapter and age to Sports Official - Player shoots 10 shots from anywhere on the 3-point line
- If player steps over the line before shot is thrown, shot is disqualified - If there is a tie, player with the most consecutive shots made wins. If tie still results, winners will be based on Sports Officials discretion Track Events - Individual track events include 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1 mile in Junior and Senior divisions - Team track events include 400 relay. 4 players needed to participate - Players must be present within 10 minutes of start time in order to participate - For all events, winners will need to give their name, chapter and age to Sports Official - Long Jump Runner gets three attempts, the best jump counts. If jumper crosses the line before they jump, jump is disqualified Tug of War - Double Elimination - Tug of War will be separated out into Junior and Senior divisions. Chapters that do not have enough members to compete in a division need to get DeMolays from another chapter - There will be a two team maximum per Chapter in each division - Team must consist of 5 players but no more than 6 - Teams must have equal number of participants before game begins - Team must be present within 5 minutes of start time in order to participate. All team members must be present to play - Game begins on Sports Official whistle - Gloves may not be used in any games - Team player rosters must be filled out before tournament starts. Players must stay with the same team and not be on multiple teams. Volleyball - Team Event minimum of 4 players are required for play, no more than 6 on the court at one time - Best of 3 games to 15 points. Must win by at least 2 points
- Time limit is 25 minutes for play - Rally point scoring will be used - Team player roster must be filled out on an individual game basis. Overall Sports Champion Scoring Chapters will be awarded points towards their overall score based on the following: - Team Sport 1 st Place 7 Points - Team Sport 2 nd Place 5 Points - Team Sport 3 rd Place 3 Points - Individual Place Awards 1 Point each
