Stevenson Projects Building the Hull 1. Print out both piece sheets. 2. Cut out one keel piece and glue it to a piece of balsa wood or dense cardboard. Cut out the second keel piece and glue it to the other side of the balsa wood. (This is your keel) 3. Or glue the keel to a blank piece of paper. Cut the blank paper out around the keel piece to create a two layer keel. Repeat this 4 or 5 more times to get a rigid, sturdy keel. 4. Cut out the Hull piece. 5. Bend transom piece up. (away from printed side.) 6. Glue the keel to the hull bottom along the dark line down the center. 7. Bend tabs on hull bottom up. (away from printed side.) 8. Starting from the front of the hull, glue the hull sides to the tabs on the hull bottom. 9. Glue the end of the keel in the center of the transom piece. 10. Fold tabs on the ends of the hull sides in. (away from printed side) 11. Glue these tabs to the non- printed sides of the transom. 12. Glue the front of the hull sides up against the front of the keel to complete the hull. Top Deck and Bulkheads 13. Cut out the forward bulkhead. 14. Glue the bulkhead to a blank piece of paper. 15. Cut the blank paper out around the bulkhead piece to create a two layer bulkhead. 16. Repeat this 2 or 3 more times to get a rigid, sturdy bulkhead. 17. Cut out the main bulkhead. 18. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the main bulkhead also. 19. Cut out the top deck and the center of the top deck. 20. Fold all of the outside tabs down (away from the printed side) 21. Lay top deck down with outside tabs pointing up. 22. Glue the top of the forward bulkhead to the top deck so that it rests centered between the Mast opening and the edge of the cabin opening. Make sure the printed side of the forward bulkhead is facing toward the rear of the boat. 23. Glue the main bulkhead to the top deck between the cabin and the cockpit. See figure below.

24. Lay the deck with the two bulkheads attached on the hull of the boat. 25. Glue the rear tabs of the top deck to the top of the transom. 26. Glue the side tabs of the top deck to the hull working from back to the front and alternating sides to keep the boat straight. 27. Gently press down on the top deck over the forward bulkhead until it touches the bottom of the boat, then glue. 28. Fold up the inside tabs on the top deck up. 29. Cut out the cabin sides. 30. Start from the center of the cabin side and glue to the tabs on center of the top deck. 31. Continue gluing cabin sides around the remaining tabs. 32. Trim off the ends of the cabin sides flush with the main Bulkhead and glue. 33. Fold tabs on cabin sides towards center. Cockpit and Cabin Roof 34. Cut out the transom. 35. Fold tab on bottom of transom forward toward printed side. 36. Position transom inside the cockpit with the top of it meeting up with the inside rear of the top deck and the bottom of the transom slightly forward to cause the transom to lean back against the top deck. 37. Glue bottom tab of transom and top of transom in place. 38. Cut out Cockpit seats. 39. Fold along floor lines, seat edge lines and seat back lines. 40. Glue seat back tabs under seats so that they conform to the sides of the seats. 41. Fold the top seat back tabs down. (away from the printed side) 42. Place seats inside the cockpit so that the floor is centered from left to right and the seat back tabs are under the top deck. 43. Slide seat assembly back against the transom. 44. Glue seat back tabs in place and place a small dab of glue on the front and rear edge of the floor. 45. Press the bottom edge of the main bulkhead rearward until it meets the cockpit seat assembly, and glue.

46. Cut out the cabin roof. 47. Lay roof over cabin sides. 48. Start from the front center of the roof and glue cabin roof to the tabs on the cabin sides. 49. Trim any excess of roof to fit flush with cabin sides. Wheel, hatches, windows and mast 50. Cut out main hatch and front hatch. 51. Glue front hatch onto the outline on the front deck. 52. Glue main hatch on cabin roof between outlines for grab handles. (Position the hatch as much open or closed as you would like.) 53. Cut out the grab rails. 54. Fold each along line down the center. Glue grab rails to the cabin roof along dotted lines. 55. If you choose, cut out the printed portholes from the cabin sides, or cut out separate colored port hole pieces and glue over existing port holes printed on the cabin sides. 56. Cut out cockpit coamings. 57. Fold each along line and glue together. Then glue to the cockpit sides up against the main bulkhead. 58. Cut out the two steering wheel pieces and glue back to back. Then glue completed wheel to the transom. 59. Cut out the taff rail and place along the back edge of the top deck. Glue each side of the taff rail to the deck so that it curves up in the middle. 60. Cut out the mast. 61. Roll the mast into a tube so that the tabs are tucked into the inside of the opposite side. 62. Glue tabs to the inside of the opposite side. 63. Insert mast into mastbox on the front deck. 64. Cut out the bow sprit and roll it up the same way as the mast and glue. 65. Glue the bow sprit to the small line on the front deck so that it sticks out over the front of the boat. 66. Glue the rest of the bow sprit down wherever it touches the boat. Sails and rigging 67. Cut out mainsail and cut the tabs in half along line. 68. Cut out the boom and the gaff. 69. Roll the boom and the gaff the same way as the mast and glue. 70. Place the boom on the bottom edge of the main sail so that each half of a tab goes to opposite sides of the boom. 71. Ensure that the boom does not extend beyond the edge of the sail where it connects to the mast. 72. Glue the sail tabs to the boom. 73. Do the same thing with gaff at the top of the main sail. 74. Separate the tabs on the remaining side of the main sail and wrap around the mast. 75. Align the boom with the line on the horizontal line on the mast. 76. Glue sail tabs to mast. 77. Cut out the jib sail. Fold the tab over on the edge of the sail. 78. Cut a piece of string long enough to reach beyond the distance from the top of the mast to the front of the bow sprit. 79. Lay the string inside the folded tab on the jib sail and glue it in place. 80. Insert the end of the string coming from the top of the jib sail down into the top of the mast until the top of the jib sail is about 1/8 of an inch away from the mast.

81. Glue the string in place. 82. Insert the end of the string coming from the bottom of the jib sail into the end of the bow sprit until the jib sail is suspended with no slack in the string. 83. Glue the string in place. 84. Cut out the trail boards. 85. On one side of the boat, glue the front one trail board to the bow sprit and the back of the trail board to the top edge of the hull so that it is positioned halfway over each. 86. Repeat for the opposite side. 87. Cut out the club foot. Roll and glue trying to make the roll as tight as possible. 88. Glue one end of the club foot to the loose hanging corner of the jib sail with the length of the club foot pointing forward. 89. Glue the other end of the club foot to the bow sprit. 90. Cut out the dead eyes and fold in half along the line. 91. With the folded end of the dead eye facing down, glue one side of the deadeye to the side of the boat over the vertical sections along the sides. The folded end of the dead eye should not be below the lower rub rail. Repeat this for all four dead eyes. 92. Cut two pieces of string long enough to reach from the side of the boat to the top of the mast and back down again. Leave plenty of string to cut off the excess. 93. Cut a slit in the top of the mast from side to side just deep enough for the string to fit into. 94. Find the middle of each string and place both of them into the slit. Glue them in place. 95. Take the ends of the strings, pull them taught and glue to the inside circle of the fixed end of the dead eyes. Once the glue dries, cut off the excess string and fold the loose end of the dead eyes up over the fixed end and glue. 96. Cut out the BYYB burgee. 97. Fold in half along vertical line. 98. Wrap the burgee around the rear string up toward the top of the mast. 99. Glue the burgee together. 100. If you would like a more detailed look to the boat you can cut out the rub rail pieces and glue them over the printed rub rails along the sides of the boat.

Rudder and display stand. 101. Cut out he rudder box and rudder. 102. Fold the rudder in half along the vertical line and glue. 103. Fold the rudder box in half and glue the rudder in between it as you glue it together. 104. Glue the edge of the rudder box to the back of the keel. 105. Cut out the display stand pieces. 106. Fold all the tabs over to the back of the printed side except for the small tabs on the ends of the rectangular pieces and glue 107. Fold the small tabs on the rectangular pieces back 90 degrees from the printed side. 108. Glue these tabs to the back sides of the other pieces to form the stand as shown in the picture below. 109. Place the boat on the stand and and enjoy your model.
