1 INTRODUCTION This manual relates to the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device system. It covers all products listed in the Söll MultiRail Aluminium user manual. This class III personal protective equipment (PPE) protects you against death and personal injury. Before installing and using this system the user must imperatively read and understand this instruction manual and any additional instructions provided during installation training or given with the system at the time of shipment. Do not install this equipment unless you are properly trained to do so! Do not carry out any modifications on this system without written approval by Honeywell Fall Protection Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG! The operating company of the anchor device must ensure that this instruction manual is brought to attention to every system user, is either kept in a safe and dry location near the system, is always kept in an easily accessible location that is known to all system users. 1.1 Product description The Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device is a horizontal rigid anchor rail system with a maximum incline of 15 which fulfills the requirements of EN 795:2012 type D and CEN/ TS 16415:2013. The purpose of this anchor device is to secure up to 6 persons against falls from height and simultaneously provides them with a great freedom of movement. The anchor rails can be designed to be straight or bended. Special mounting intermediate anchors are used to fix the anchor rails to the construction. Alternatively the anchor rails can also be fixed directly to the substructure. A special trolley is necessary for connecting an user to the anchor rail. Fixed or flexible end stops secure the trolley against unintentional disengagement from the rail. The Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device is only allowed to use with the products compatible in accordance with Pt. 1.2. Fig. 1.1 and fig. 1.2 show typical layouts of the anchor device and the main system components for floor, wall and overhead applications. 1.2 Compatibilities All system components are designed to be used only in a Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device. Only components which have been approved together with the Söll MultiRail Aluminium system are allowed to be used in connection with the system. The Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device is only allowed to be used in combination with the following safety accessories: EN 355 compliant shock absorbers EN 354 compliant lanyards EN 362 compliant connectors EN 360 compliant retractable type fall arresters EN 358 and EN 361 compliant full body harnesses and work positioning belts If any other personal safety equipment, compatible as defined above, is used as protection against falling or as restraining or rescue device and if such equipment is anchored to or fixed to the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device, installer and user must follow the applicable operating instructions and user information of the relevant manufacturers. 1.3 Protection provided by the anchor device The purpose of this anchor device is to arrest a fall of a user from his working position and to protect him against serious injuries or death caused by a fall from a height. 1.4 Performance The anchor device was tested in accordance with DIN EN 795:2012 and CEN/TS 16415:2013 and is consequently equipped according to the type test for a static force of 12 kn for the first user and 1 kn for each additional user (max. 6 users = 17 kn). The requirements of the substructure have to be calculated accordingly. The maximum measured deflection of the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor rail in case of a fall from height is below 1000 mm. 7

1.5 Limitations and capabilities The working conditions have to be appropriate for anodized aluminium. It must be taken care that the work environment is suitable for anodized aluminium (EN AW 6063 T66). In any doubt about the suitability of the aluminum rail and the accessories in the given environmental conditions, corrosion resistance and climatic exposure must be checked before installation by the operator or installer (e.g. by corrosion test). If this is not possible without a doubt, a system with higher resistance to corrosion or climate must be used. The Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device can be used to secure a maximum of 6 persons against falling. The maximum distances between two rail fixation points are: 6.000 mm for floor, wall and ceiling fixation of aluminium rails. Please refer also to section 3 Installation. During installation of the Söll MultiRail Aluminium system avoid trailing or looping of lanyards or lifelines over sharp edges, electrical conductivity, cutting, abrasion and pendulum falls. The Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device is not intended to be used in adventure/ activity parks, for rope access / suspension, in high corrosive atmospheres: chemical industry o e.g. formic acid, potassium chloride, potassium hydroxide, sodium carbonates, sodium chloride, sulfuric acid, zinc sulfate and its salts and dissolutions, offshore, etc. The Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device cannot be used as a transport anchor or for lifting of loads. Danger! Failure to comply with these provisions will expose the user to risks of fall from height! Warning! Any alterations or additions to the equipment without the manufacturer s prior written consent are forbidden, and repairs must only be carried out in accordance with Honeywell Fall Protection Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG procedures. 8

1.6 Training The installation, use and maintenance of these products is restricted to qualified persons who have undergone appropriate training or persons supervised by a superior trained and qualified by an approved person or organization. They must be in possession of a training certificate (indicating date, place, name and company of the instructor or the training body, installer s surname and first name) for the period that they are responsible for installing, maintaining and using the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device. This certificate must be kept throughout the service life of the lifeline. Also train yourself in the use of this PPE and make sure you have fully understood how it works. In case of doubt, take no risks and seek information! For the safety of all persons working on the system, it is essential that all workers are physically fit and are not under the influence of medication, drugs or alcohol. For customized configurations of the system special trainings are mandatory before use. Ask the installer for advice! The user must be familiar with the prevailing accident prevention regulations and safety guidelines and must follow them e.g. local Law and system operator. 9

2 PRIOR USE INFORMATION 2.1 Transportation, storage and packaging Ensure that the Söll MultiRail Aluminium components are transported and stored in a clean, dry, ventilated area, free of exposure to fumes. The transport conditions have to be appropriate for anodized aluminium. Avoid corrosive, overheated or frozen atmosphere or other environmental effects which could impair the functionality of the equipment. System components made of Aluminium are delivered anodized ex works. It must be taken care that storage and further processing is suitable for aluminium. Make sure that the system components will not be damaged during storage and transportation activities. Do not throw the guide rails! Do not drop them! To avoid any damages, defects or loss of parts, the system components should be transported and stored in their original packaging. 2.2 Prior use checks Ensure that the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device is inspected before each use. The anchor device must be in perfect working condition and must operate properly before and during every use of the device. Ensure that the device and the components are not deformed or damaged, eg. Corrosion, cracks, damages etc The anchor device shall not be used if it was strained by a fall, if defects are detected or if there are doubts that the system can safely be used. The system must be removed from service until an expert (as defined in chapter 5.3 Acceptance and regular inspection ) confirms in writing that the system can be used again. If required, the trolley has to be sent back to the manufacturer. Before every use, ensure that there is adequate fall clearance below the user to prevent the user from hitting the ground or any other obstacles in the event of a fall. Before every use, check that your PPE as lanyard with shock absorber or body harness is fit for use and that they are under safe working conditions. Before every use, check that the trolley is free from any damages (deformations, cracks etc.). Please check the operation instruction of the trolley in addition. (Please refer also to chapter 4.3 Acceptance and regular inspections.) 2.3 Inspection before installation Warning! Before installation a qualified engineer must check whether the substructure on which the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device has to be fixed can withstand the stress (refer to section 1.4 Performance ) resulting from a fall and certify this (certificate of stability). 10

Manufacturer s installation instructions and installation suggestions as per EN 795:2012 standard must be followed at the whole time of installation. In order to minimize the fall distance and limit the possibility of a free fall, the location of the anchor device and the work being carried out must be carefully selected. Ensure that the necessary fall clearance for arresting the falling user is not higher than the ground clearance available on-site. Adjust the type and length of the coupling element accordingly to avoid any collision with the ground or other obstacle in the fall path. In accordance to fig. 2.1 determine the necessary fall clearance by taking into account the location of the anchor device (overhead, wall or floor installation) user height, the type and length of the coupling element. 3 INSTALLATION 3.1 General information a) Project planning Project planning must be done before installation. The installation should be inspected, tolerances have to be determined and precise drawings should be prepared. This project planning enables determination of appropriate fastening types that can be derived from the following technical elements: quality of substructures, possible fixation distances of the anchor rail and the number of users of the anchor device. In addition, check whether the dimension within plans and/ or drawings comply with reality (see paragraph 2.3 above). This project planning must consider calculations determined as per EN 795:2012 type D. b) On-site installation Pay attention to the prevailing accident prevention and safety regulations of the respective region/ site. Follow the installation recommendations according to the EN795:2012 standard and generally accepted technical standards. It is recommended that the installer and the customer should coordinate installation planning based on the results of the installation site inspection. Honeywell Fall Protection Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG recommends coordinating the installation with the other works necessary such as roofer, construction and engineering etc. Components must be handled carefully. Guide rail sections must not be thrown. Do not drop them! Before installation, make sure those rails sections are free from dirt - in particular the connecting surfaces. They should not come into contact with cement, mortar or similar substances. Remnants of mortar must be wiped off immediately. Especially the sliding surfaces for the trolley inside and outside of the guide rail must be free of dirt. Damaged parts shall not be used or repaired but must be replaced by new ones. 12

c) Acceptance tests after installation After installation, the installer and the customer or the fully qualified and trained person in charge must conduct functional and acceptance tests and maintains a log for them. Especially check that Pay attention to Pt. 3.2. prescription of tightening torques of screw connections. The trolley can be guided smoothly through the anchor rail. All information has been provided on the identification plate. No damaged parts were used. 3.2 Tightening torques For tightening of mounting screws in stainless steel the following torque range is recommended: dimension screw connection M8 M12 Tightening torque 16 Nm 50 Nm 3.3 Required personnel and equipment for an easy mounting 2 persons 2 full body harnesses according to EN 361 2 lanyards with energy absorber acc. to EN 354/355 1 open wrenches, size 19 torque wrench o With nut for hexagon Screw wrench size 19 o With nut Allen key size 5 13

3.4 Installation of the system 3.4.1 Fixing of intermediate anchors The intermediate anchors have to be fixed with M12 screws to the structures or substructures. Important: The guide rail can be used as anchorage in overhead position, on the floor as well as on the side (as handrail). Wheeled runners (order no. 24168) can only be used for overhead installations. Ensure the guide rail is fitted horizontally on its complete length! 3.4.2 Cutting of rails The cut edge must run at an angle of 90 ± 0,5. The chamfering (for DIN 7991 M8 countersunk screws) must be drilled on both sides with offset holes (follow the tolerances). A drilling (order no. 26917) is available for counter bores. Important: The head of the countersunk of the rail or protrude max. surface screws must be flush with the 0.5mm. All saw or drilling edges must be cleanly deburred! 14

3.4.3 Intermediate anchor spacing Using the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device in combination with the closed or openable runner (order no. 17407/17792) Recommended intermediate anchor spacing 4 m. Maximum permissible intermediate anchor spacing 6 m. Refer to diagrams Using the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device in combination with the wheeled runner (order no. 24168) and a retractable Intermediate anchor spacing a, please see chart 2 Definition of intermediate anchor spacing depending on retractable weight: F = load : dead weight of the retractable type fall arrester + maximum retracting force of the retractable type fall arrester (maximum retracting force is normally at appr. 3 kg) a = intermediate anchor spacing F = load Chart 2 15

The rail slides on Teflon stripes, which are fixed on the intermediate anchors. Therefore rail is able to balance compensating motions. 3.4.4 Rail over-hanging the last / first intermediate anchor. The remaining rail length between intermediate anchor and end stop should be between 75 and 100 mm. Danger! A rail end plate must be fitted to each rail end. 16

3.4.5 Clamp spacing for bends L-shape of the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device: (only 1 bend has been built in) The distance between the clamp and the bend can be a maximum of 1000 mm. U-shape of the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchorage device: (2 bends have been built in). The distance between the clamp and the bends should be between 75 and 1000 mm. For further shapes please contact the manufacturer. 17

3.4.6 Intermediate anchor spacing on rail derivation connectors The intermediate anchor at point A may be fitted at max. 500 mm, the other two intermediate anchors may be fitted at max. 2000 mm spacing. Important: The distributing points may only be used if the rail is installed at low level (not above the worker). A Important: Only the closed runner (order no. 17407) is allowed in combination of the T-switch or X switch. Danger! Danger of falling! + 18

3.4.7 Rail joints / bends / rail The connection of two guide rails or two guide rails with a bend is carried out as follows: Insert the rail joint connector or end pieces of the bend into the guide rail until the holes in the guide tube and the internal thread are overlaid. Use only original DIN 7991 M8 x 14 screws with special patch coating and screw both sides together from the outside with torque 16Nm. Important: During assembly / fitting of the bends, take especially care to ensure that the bend and the rail are aligned! When connecting two guide rails, the gap should be a maximum of 1.0 mm. Bend H (horizontal) is used for ground or overhead assembly / installation is available with angles of min. 15 to max. 150. Bend V (vertical) (Not illustrated - order no. 26878) is used with sideways assembly / installation, whereby the guide rail can also be operated by hand is available with angles of min. 15 to max. 150. 19

3.4.8 Rail end-stop Ridged end-stop (order no. 26886) Warning! The hexagon socket screw (M 12 x 65) and the nut must be secured by two tapered disk securing couple. Openable end-stop (order no. 26916). The runner can be removed from the guide rail at any time. Unlocking of the rail end plate with release: Press the unlocking plate (B) having 2 bolts downwards and place the runners on the guide rail. Danger! The unlocking plate and 2 bolts must be pressed to the initial position using spring force. 20

3.4.9 Vertical height differences Smaller levels (e.g. on flat roofs) up to max. 1 m can be bridged with this system without interruption. Warning! There is no fall arrest protection at the point of the vertical height difference. Important! Fittings must be positioned at least 2 m before the edge of the drop. 21

3.4.10 Installation documents and declarations After the installation of the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device the installer must provide the installation documents to the operator including the following information: Address and place of installation Name and address of the installer Name of the person responsible for the installation Product reference (manufacturer of the anchor device, type, version) Fasteners for fixation on the substructure (e. g. dowels - manufacturer, type, size, provided pull and lateral forces) Schematic installation plan (This plan should be easily accessible for each person using the anchor device - e. g. at the access points) Furthermore the installer must declare in writing (please see before) that the installation was carried out according to instructions from the manufacturer, was carried out according the installation plan, was mounted on the predetermined substructure, was fixed as predetermined (no. of screws, correct materials, correct position/place. etc.) was ordered according specifications of the manufacturer and was delivered with photographic information/documents, especially if fixations and substructure are no longer visible after installation. 22

4 USE Danger! For equipment intended for use in fall arrest systems, it is essential for safety to verify the free space required beneath the user at the workplace before each occasion of use, so that, in the case of a fall, there will be no collision with the ground or other fixed or temporary obstacle in the fall path. 4.1 Foreseeable misuse Every user must use a separate runner! Only the following runners approved by the manufacturer should be used: closed runner (order no. 17407) openable runner (order no. 17792) wheeled runner (order no. 24168) glider with locking (order no. 26308) Danger! Do not attach yourself to the guide rail without a runner! Please be aware that not complying the recommendations of this user manual may expose you or the users of this device in serious risks of fall from heights and consequently to bodily injuries or death. 4.2 Using the runner The full body harness should be put on and the lanyard has to be attached to the back D-ring of the full body harness in accordance with the applicable instructions. Use only equipment according to section 1.2 Compatibilities. Important! The energy absorber of the lanyard must always be on the body side. Danger! Preclude any fall risk for the user at the access points of the rail. 23

For using the runner please read carefully the separate runner operating manual Move at normal walking speed. Avoid jumps or other rapid movements. Ensure that during use the lanyard does not wind around an arm, a leg or any other part of the body. Ensure that the working area is free from any obstacles that will impede the circulation of the user or of the lanyard during use. Danger! The runner or the lanyard carabiner must only be detached if the user is secured in some other way against falling from height! 4.3 Emergency procedures It is essential that the operator of the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device has in place an emergency rescue measures plan, which takes into account all possible emergencies that may occur while using the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device and which enables an immediate rescue of the user in case of a fall from height. 5 AFTER USE INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE 5.1 Cleaning Basic care of all Honeywell Fall Protection equipment will prolong the life of the system and will contribute to the performance of its vital safety function. Periodically clean system components to remove any dirt, paint, corrosives, contaminants, or other materials that may have accumulated. It is recommended that soapsuds are used for cleaning. Don t use aggressive chemicals such as alcohol, acids or lyes for cleaning! 24

5.2 Inspection Before use of the Söll MultiRail Aluminium anchor device operator has to inspect the system for noticeable problems and, if any, contact a competent person. The system has to be inspected regularly, but at least once every 12 months by a competent person. Abnormal environmental conditions (dirt, dust, chemical impacts, temperature, UV radiation) or any doubt arise about its condition for safe use can require more frequent maintenance intervals. Please ask your relevant System Customer Service contact for advice Always ensure manufacturer s instructions and statutory regulations are taken into account when inspecting. Important! If the device has not been used for a period longer than 1 year, a competent person must inspect the device before reusing it. Danger! A defective anchor device or one which has been subjected to stress resulting from a fall is not allowed to be used any longer and must be removed from service. It may only be used again if a competent person approves such use in writing. Important! A competent person is: a person who has adequate knowledge in the area of personal safety equipment for protection against falling owing to his technical and experience and who is competent in the prevailing national industrial safety regulations, accident prevention regulations, guidelines and generally acceptable technical standards (such as EN-Standards, VDEspecifications, technical regulations of other member states of the European Union or other contracting countries of the agreement across the European Economic Area) and other applicable rules to such an extent that he can assess the safe working condition and proper use of personal safety equipment for protection against falling. Warning: Only Honeywell Fall Protection Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG is authorized to carry out repairs. 25

5.3 Acceptance and regular inspections Inspections have to be carried out according to the following inspection list. a) Anchor rails The identification plate must be visible. The maximum fixing distances of the anchor rail must not exceed: - 6.000 mm for floor, wall and ceiling fixation of the aluminium rail the maximum unsupported overhang past the fixation points at each end of the rail system is max. 200mm. The gaps at the guide rail joints must not exceed: - 2 mm (>0 C) or 3 mm (<0 C) at the time of the approval - 5 mm while regular inspection All mounting elements must be correctly installed and all bolt connections must be fastened tightly. All bolt connections must be secured against loosening. End-stops must be fitted at the beginning and the end of the anchor rail in accordance with section 3.4.8 Installing the end-stops The locking plate of the end-stop has to be easy to open and returns automatically into locking position. The guide-rails must be free from dirt and other contaminants. Easy inserting of the runner into the anchor rail must be possible if an openable endstop is used. Test use must have taken place. No defects or shortcomings may be found. - Corrosion, cracks, damages etc The operator must be in possession of this manual. Only original components from Honeywell Fall Protection Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG must be used. Important! If defects or shortcomings e.g. corrosion, cracks, damages, deformation or other visible wear and tear as well as environmental stress (e.g. chemical alterations, effects of extreme weather conditions) appear on the system or parts of it, which may affect the safe operation of the device, the affected system and/or part has to be replaced! b) Runner (refer to runner manual) 26

5.4 Repair Only the manufacturer or a person appointed by the manufacturer is allowed to carry out repairs. Components with mechanical damage (e.g. resulting from a fall) must be replaced. Only use original spare parts or the ones approved by the manufacturer while carrying out repairs. For further information on the availability and suitability of spare parts, please contact your relevant System Customer Service (see section 1 Introduction ). 27

6 MISCELLANEOUS 6.1 Identification plate The identification plate (fig. 6.1) at the access points contains the following information. The presence of the identification plate is mandatory and it must not be removed. At each regular inspection the legibility must be checked.
