UTAH GAME RECAPS Game 1 - April 19 at ARCO Arena - W, 96-90 Chris Webber led all scorers with 27 points, outdueling Utah s Karl Malone (25 points) as the Kings outlasted the Jazz, 96-90, at ARCO Arena in Game 1 of the Western Conference First Round. The Kings trailed by six to start the second quarter (25-19), but took the lead for good on a 13-4 run to open the quarter. Utah continued to stay close, getting to within one (75-74) with 3:56 left in the fourth quarter. Sacramento then outscored the Jazz, 7-1, to lead, 85-78, with 1:54 left. The Kings made 13 of their next 14 free throw attempts to hold off the Jazz. Webber also grabbed a game-high-tying 11 rebounds. Peja Stojakovic added 16 points and Jim Jackson scored 10 of his 15 points from the free throw line. Greg Ostertag led Utah with 11 rebounds to go along with his 18 points. Game 2 - April 21 at ARCO Arena - W, 108-95 The Kings took a 2-0 series lead with a 108-95 win over Utah in Game 2 at ARCO Arena as Peja Stojakovic scored a game-high 29 points, 21 coming after Chris Webber left the game with 11:27 left in the second quarter with a strained lower back. The Kings, able to play at a quicker tempo than Game 1, scored eight unanswered points for an 11-point advantage (35-24) early in the second quarter that broke the game open. The Jazz could not recover as the Kings maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. Sacramento s bench accounted for 46 points, 19 coming in the second quarter. Vlade Divac and Keon Clark each grabbed a team-high-tying seven rebounds and Bobby Jackson dished out a game-high six assists. Utah was led by Andrei Kirilenko s 17 points and Matt Harpring s game-high eight rebounds. The Kings shot.537 (44-of-82) from the field en route to picking up their first 2-0 series lead in a playoff series in the Sacramento-era. Game 3 - April 26 at Delta Center - L, 104-107 Utah Head Coach Jerry Sloan, ejected in the third quarter, was not around to witness Greg Ostertag s career playoff performance (22 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks) as the Jazz defeated the Kings, 107-104, at the Delta Center to cut the Kings series lead to 2-1. Chris Webber, who exited Game 2 early with a sprained lower back, started and recorded a game-high 24 points and team-high 11 rebounds before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. Utah led after every quarter, despite the Kings starting the game on a 15-6 run. Mike Bibby s lay-up with 2:07 left in the fourth quarter brought the Kings within three, 100-97. But the Jazz went on to make seven of their next eight free throw attempts to seal the win. Utah made 19 of its 26 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter and finished hitting 35 of 49 from the charity stripe. Bibby scored 23 points and Peja Stojakovic added 19 points. Six Jazz players scored in double-figures, including all five starters. Karl Malone recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards. Showing no apparent signs of exhaustion, the Kings used a balanced scoring attack in the first quarter to take a slim 24-20 advantage. Both Stojakovic and Michael Finley scored seven a piece in the second frame, but five points each from Keon Clark and Bobby Jackson bolstered the Sacramento lead to 11 at halftime.
