Photo Essay Examples The student shows some creativity in the composition of the photo essay. More synthesis, complexity, and clarity are needed.

C:SOME creativity; more complexity, creativity, and synthesis needed - Shows a knowledge of some literary devices and rhetoric but very basic application (personification, hyperbole, symbolism, metaphor) - Elements of a basic narrative are present, but the narrative reads more like a report - The author tells more than shows - The message is clear but too direct at times (seems to be preaching rather than persuading) - Very literal connection between the photo and text

A podium inside the marble Panathinaiko stadium in Athens, Greece is a remembrance to the first modern Olympics in 1896. Many of Greece's once-gleaming Olympic venues, just like venues across the world from 1896 to 2018, have been abandoned. This is a crisis that calls for world wide attention.

Each year, there is an epidemic of wasted annual resources. Olympic structures are created for the momentary gratification of few and are later forgotten by many, enjoyed by random downhill bikers on a graffitied bobsled track or birds who nest in five star caged resorts. Chinese tourists are shown looking through a security fence at the National Stadium, which has become known as the "Bird's Nest", symbolising the way resources were closed off to many people and wasted on the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. This story of waste continues each year.

In Atlanta Georgia 350 pounds of explosives detonated in 1997 to destroy an Olympic structure, symbolizing the destruction of the Olympic Dream. It is time for the world to recognize the fact that the Olympics is not improving our world or uniting countries, but rather it is eating up important resources like the explosives eat away at the structures left behind.

B: composition reveals a developing ability to creatively and imaginatively synthesise information and ideas into a multimodal text to showcase a clear perspective on a local issue. - The layout goes beyond the basic photo paired with a text (side by side). Some thought went into salience. - Literary devices and rhetoric are used intentionally to turn a report into a narrative (elements of fictocriticism evident). There are some mistakes or omissions but overall the narrative shows more than tells - The perspective is clear, tone and atmosphere consistent - The issue is specific and significant but needs to be more local and topical. - More synthesis needed between the caption, photo, and narrative text; story is a bit choppy/mechanical.

In 1896 an epidemic of absence arrived. Countries were inspired to pour money into vivid venues where athletes paraded together to prove to the world that nations could unite toward one goal: to contribute to building a peaceful and better world through sport practised without discrimination of any kind, in a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play. This idealistic goal shone so bright around the world that it blinded the mainstream public, and Abandoned Olympic stadiums gradually revealed the corruption hidden behind the

Forgotten Each year, each day, each hour there is an epidemic of wasted annual resources. Olympic structures are created for the momentary gratification of the ELITE while the lasting hunger of nearby neighbourhoods is neglected like the forgotten graffitied bobsled tracks and five star Beijing bird cages. Unaffordable debt is incurred daily in order to fund infrastructure to celebrate the few who can afford to be coached, which is an unjustified investment due to the forgotten many. Each year, each day, each hour the world moves forward to celebrate whose solidarity? The glossy medals and massive buildings blind the public and the corrupted cost, the discrimination, and the neglect are absent from the celebrated media

Destroyed Death, destruction, and decay are the repercussions of this neglect. As the Olympic Games ignores public need in favour of private praise, the forgotten grounds suffer. As the ego driven athletes chase gold that was stolen from the pockets of socially minded citizens what is left in their wake? People and places are constantly abandoned, forgotten, and destroyed. Only when the Olympics is abandoned, forgotten and destroyed, will money actually go into building a peaceful and better world of solidarity without discrimination.

Photo Essay Examples A: The creative and imaginative composition of the photo essay shows the student s ability to synthesise information and ideas into a multimodal text that showcases a significant perspective on a local issue.

Shadows lurked threateningly as the epidemic of absence gained strength in Athens. The year was 1896 and money was secretly stolen from future generations to construct vivid venues where athletes could unite nations toward one goal: to contribute to building a peaceful and better world through sport practised without discrimination of any kind, in a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play. This idealistic goal shone so bright that it blinded humanity against the underlying pathogens that gradually released toxins and laid waste to those in its path.

Each year, each day, each hour annual resources were devoured and Olympic Structures, like the forgotten bobsled tracks and five star Beijing bird cages, fed the Elite with momentary gratification while the absent majority suffered increased neglect. Unaffordable debt funded infrastructure to celebrate the few who could afford to be coached to success, as the forgotten many drowned in the shadows of the unjustified investments. Each year, each day, each hour the world moved forward to celebrate solidarity while glossy medals and massive buildings blinded the public against the corrupted cost, the discrimination, and the neglect absent from

Death, Destruction, and Decay were the repercussions of this untreated epidemic. As a result, Death, Destruction, and Decay are the descendents of an Olympic Games that ignores public need in favour of private praise. Death, Destruction, and Decay are the current conditions of the once celebrated structures that housed the ego driven athletes who chased gold that was stolen from the pockets of socially minded citizens. It s only when the epidemic of absence is finally destroyed, then the building of a peaceful and better world of solidarity without discrimination can begin.
