Presidents Report I always think that being a part of META is similar to belonging to a large family, part of the racing community. It is good to know that almost everywhere you go, there is always someone that you have met before and are pleased to see again. Although friends may move away for a variety of reasons, you always remember them and want to know that they are doing well. Many of you are better at keeping in touch than I am, but through our network, news does get around, both good and bad, just as it does in a family. Sadly, I heard recently that Rick Smale has been diagnosed with cancer. Some of you will remember Rick, who was a META member for many years and was starter at Westwood. He and his wife Jan (and several cats) moved to 100 Mile House many years ago to pursue a dream, which unfortunately was not to be. Rick will be in Kelowna for the next month receiving treatment for his cancer. If you would like to get in touch with him, his email address is rikkieb@shaw.ca We all wish him the best hugs to him (and Jan) from all of us. Ann Hello all: On May 22 and 23, the 53rd Knox Mountain Hillclimb will run again at Knox Mountain in Kelowna. Knox is the longest running hillclimb in Canada and people come from all over to run. As with every event, lots of help is needed. From starting set-up on Friday to take down on Monday. Cars on Ice has had good representation at Knox for the past 5 or 6 years with both driver s and workers alike. Please support your fellow ice racers and workers by joining the gang in Kelowna on the May long weekend. Everyone (well almost) camps at the bottom of the hill and it is a lot of fun. Dave Kirby is WCIRABC coordinator for this event. If you are interested in attending to help work this fabulous event please contact Dave a.s.a.p. Great way to spend some more time with your fellow ice racers. Contact Dave Kirby at dmskirby@telus.net

Thanks Joe VRCBC HMR and Westwood50 Receive Sandy Lovelace Award The late Sandy Lovelace was a drag racer who was a regular competitor at British Columbia tracks, in particular, those on Vancouver Island. Targa Canada West THROWING OUT BAMBINA WITH THE BATHWATER Sadly, Targa Canada West needs to cancel Targa Bambina 2010. The British Columbia Government reports that we should easily clear every other hurdle but we have fallen short on documenting sufficient community support from those who inhabit or traverse the roads we applied to use. Targa Canada West's quest was to bring another great Targa event to a new area of the globe. While our resources towards achieving this goal were considerable, they were not unlimited. We imposed a test for ourselves; a one-day event on May 24, 2010, near Kelowna. We have failed that test. All Bambina 2010 entry fees will be returned immediately. Thanks go to those entrant teams for their support and understanding. Thanks also go out to the tireless Competition officials, those who have signed up as volunteers, Knox Mountain organizers, the arrive-and-drive vendors, the marquee competitors, our insurers, the patient elected and governmental officials, and many others. Targa Canada West (the company) is solvent, but the future is open to question. There remains that untapped Targa market of 100 million people within a 24 hour tow of British Columbia's amazing roads and scenery. The potential is huge, and waiting. While TCW has come up just short of achieving a BC Targa, perhaps we have made reaching that goal more attainable for others. We are certainly willing to share our experience with anyone interested in completing the quest. On a personal note, at heart our team members are still Targa enthusiasts and participants. If our saga to date should teach all of us anything, it is to cherish and support the already existing Targa events. You'll see us competing in said events around the globe later in 2010.
