Other Reports VP1 (Steve) 1 st Vice President s Report I am pleased to announce that current UIC, Jim Van Meer, will be returning in this role for 2018. Jim is already looking to book the Level 1 and Level 2 umpire sessions. I am also happy to announce that current Umpire Allocator, Melissa Dahlen, will be returning in this role in 2018. 2018 Opening Day Ceremonies will take place at Exhibition Park (all four diamonds) on Saturday, March 31 st, 2018. o The day will start with all teams assembling at Clearbrook Park, marching in a Parade through the tunnel (under Trethewey) and through Exhibition Park to the baseball diamonds. o Speeches will be made by the Mayor, and others (including Tourism Abbotsford) There is a need for better communication/archiving within AAHA o Will be exploring Slack for communicating within the Board. o Should look at options for updating our website.
Should be easy to post schedules for all teams/divisions Should be easy to communicate with members through mass emails (breaking it out into divisions, teams, etc.) Should include all forms and documents VP2 (Todd) No report Director #1 (Colin) No Report Director #2 (Jose) Challenger 2018 Registration Opened on Facebook and AAHA Website, now. I haven't sent out notices to last year's players yet. So far 2 players have registered. I'm expecting 45-50 players for 2018. Last season the volunteers were great again, but I was usually a few short. This season I will need 2 teams to volunteer each Saturday. I would like the board to consider working in Team Volunteering: Peewee AA both teams (2 Saturday's) Bantam AA\AAA (2x) Midget AA both teams (2x) Sr Cards (1x) Jr Cards / Bantam Prep (1x) * I can speak to this at the coach's meeting UFV Cascades Club (Larry Krause from UFV Baseball came out and watched a game last season and was interested in scheduling their club to volunteer) I will follow up with this AAHA mandatory parent volunteer policy? Is this being implemented? Can Volunteering for Challenger Baseball be added to the AAHA registration form? Credit would be 2 hours a week. Discussion followed regarding the logic of implementing mandatory volunteer hours. The RAMP program would be a way to track it. Each director will decide by the January meeting potentials volunteer hours required for each teams/areas so it can be divided among families. I met with Matt Maclellan at Envision and added him as a signer to the Challenger Bank Account in place of Ernie. Grant Park Please keep me in the loop on this, are we in the finally plan approval phase? I want to make sure a couple parents from my group get a chance to see the plans before final, especially to advise on Wheel Chair accessibility and mobility concerns.
BC Challenger AGM BC Challenger AGM was held on November 18, 2017. Its our workshop and AGM full day in Vancouver, I attended again this year. Many big decision this year, the Provincial Coordinator, Ian McLean has stepped down. He was the coordinator for 20 years much of the programming in place is due to him. Two people have filled the role temporary as Co-Coordinators. I'm continuing on the board as web coordinator I also accepted the position of Tournament Chair for the annual McDonald's Celebrity Challenger Classic golf tournament for 2018. The Golf Tournament is June 12. I will send info out about the Golf Tournament there are opportunities for sponsorship, silent auction times, live auction items, golf groups, etc, please keep in mind, if you, your business, your contacts can help. Please let me know. We have already had our first committee meeting. To date the tournament has raised over 1 Million, each year it raises 150,000.00 for BC Challenger Baseball each season The Challenger Baseball programming is really changing due to Jays Care Foundation taking over the programming. We started to receive funding directly from Jays Care Foundation. JCF is providing the leagues with funding, equipment and training. Last year JCF held a challenger coaching clinic in Vancouver. This year its being held in Toronto at Rogers Centre, coaching and personal development. Being held end of January. I'm considering going. Pee Wee- nothing to report Bantam-Noting to report Midget- nothing to report Director #3 (Brian) Uniforms Almost all the rep uniforms have been returned. There was mixed feedback on the new rep uniform. It will be up to the new uniform coordinator to decide what will happen moving forward as only 1/2 of the uniforms were ordered, with plans to purchase the other 1/2 this year. The new uniform coordinators are as follows: Megan Fullerton (meganprbrown@gmail.com) T-ball and Tadpole Kara Coleman (kara@parallelyoga.com)-mosquito, Peewee, Bantam, Midget, and Rep teams. The number of teams for each coordinator is very similar as the younger divisions have many more kids playing than the older teams. Uniforms should be ordered by Feb 1. This ensures a timely delivery for start of the season. Commissioners should have team details to the respective coordinators by mid- January.

We need to start discussing replacements. Old Business Midget AAA No coach has been found as of yet but Dan expects we might get more interest in the spring. Paid Treasurer s position Dan recommends we spend $3000 to pay the bookkeeper as it is a big position. Prior to Jodi we paid almost $5000 or more. Dan motioned that the position be renumerated $3000.00 per year. All in favour. Carried Grant Park Update (Jodi Wiens memorial) Grant will be out of commission for the entire 2018 season. We have more use of Exhibition Park so likely that can fill the void. AAHA would like to create a memorial in Jodi s name. Matt or Steve will talk to Ernie and see what he would like.
Bantam 2018 The motion to tier Bantam AA was defeated. Apparently AAA will be tiered so Dan applied to have Abbotsford play in Tier 2. There are 16 teams in AAA but no word yet on how many applied to play each tier. It will now be posted on the website that we are looking for a AAA coach with a plan for tryouts to start mid-january. New Business BC Baseball AGM Coaches no longer need NCCP training. It makes it easier to find volunteers. The only time it will be needed is if PeeWee, Bantam or Midget make it to Westerns or higher for Baseball BC. We need to decide at the January meeting what direction we want our coaching to go in. There are new bat rules. Direct parents to the BC Minor website to confirm to rules. 2018 Registration Online January 1. RAMP
At the association level, a program such as RAMP would simplify things for us. It would make registration a lot easier and get info to commissioners much faster. It would cost about $4500.00 for the first year which would include a new website. Discussion followed. Jenni will stay on as registrar. For this year we will stay with the website and registration program we have. The program we have needs to be made simpler for the registrar to deal with. Matt will help with the spreadsheet. Board members will investigate other possible options with the plan to move to another system for next year. Matt motioned we have Kara set up proper social media on behalf of AAHA. All in favour. Carried. Live registration will be January 15 and Feb. 5. Matt motioned to adjourn the meeting. All in favour. Meeting adjourned at 9:23pm
