This is also the time when membership renewals are due. If you know of someone who should be a member of the club, please let someone on the executive committee know so we can make sure he or she receives a membership application. The dancers continue to practice on Sunday at the Cendagorta house. Contact Cirbie Lee if you have any questions. See Pictures on Page 4. Halloween Party October 26! NEWS Special Thanks to: Club Member attends Gaztemundu Mary Gaztambide, who chaired the Carmelite Fair event. Taken from EuskalKultura.com Condolences to: Magdalena Zatica Sangroniz and family for the passing of her sister, Cristina. Congratulations to: Brian Osoro, who married Mary Beth Coffman. Pilar Sangroniz Shortsleeve, who participated in Gaztemundu 2013 in Euskadi. Bon Voyage to: Asun Bedialuneta, who is in the Basque country and traveling through Andalucia, Extremadura and Portugal. She and Javier will return in October. Pantxo and Nancy Aguerre, who are traveling to Europe. Club member Pilar Sangroniz Shortsleeve attended Gaztemundu in the Basque Country. Below is part of an article where Pilar is interviewed. Many of the participants are musicians and have been formally trained, which is allowing them to take full advantage of classes provided. We give individual classes to each one of them and then we play as a group, said Espino. Some afternoons the students have participated in the Dantza-plaza, playing and dancing along with folks that gather in the Machete Plaza in Gasteiz. it is very important to know Basque dances and know how to accompany the dantzaris because it is one of the activities that they carry out in the euskal etxeak. That is what Pilar Shortsleeve, does for example, member of the Utah Basque Club who plays for the club s dance group, Utahko Triskalariak. They are always wanting to learn new things and they will really like what I am learning here, says this American in her Basque from Gernika that she learned from her parents. Pilar, criminologist by profession, learned the txistu on her own but now is very capable of teaching others; one of the goals of this Master Class When I get home there are a couple of people who are interested in learning and I hope more people join in, she says. Chorizos for Sale The club has Chorizos for sale. Chorizos are $11.00 for a 3 lb. bag for members and $12.00 for non-members. If you d like to buy a bag, please call Mary or Jean Gaztambide at 801-262-7673. 3 Article here: http://bit.ly/16abyt0
