Please note the following information regarding Picture Day on Sunday May 7st: Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled start time. Studio will open at 8:30. All hair, make-up & accessories/tights are required as for the recital. (Great Practice) Please arrive with hair & make-up done, ready to go. No jewelry of any kind (other than what is required for recital). No nail polish, hands free of stamps, tattoos, marker, etc. Stickers removed from dance shoes. Please ensure that your child is changing quickly for their next picture time, as it is very important we stay on schedule. (which will be possible with everyone s cooperation) Due to the high traffic volume it is requested that only dancers and 1 parent attend at the studio. Parents who arrive with non dancing siblings will be asked to wait upstairs. Photos need to be Pre-ordered April 10-May 3

HAIR AND MAKEUP INFORMATION FOR ALL DANCERS Girls' Make-up: is required since the bright stage lights wash out the dancer's features. For the Starlite groups, foundation a shade darker than their own skin, red lipstick, blush and mascara only. The Tiny and Mini groups should have beige foundation (one shade darker than their skin tone) blush, shimmery white eye shadow, and black eye liner in addition to red lipstick and black mascara. For junior classes and higher and teen classes, the girls may wear false eye lashes in addition to the described makeup if they would like. o Boys' Makeup Not Required Hair Style: Afternoon Show- To keep hair neat and uniform, we would like all girls to have a low ballet bun. Hair bands are also good to keep short hair off of the face. The girls must arrive at rehearsals, recital and photo day with their hair and makeup done. No underwear is allowed under bodysuits, lycra shorts, capris or dance pants as it shows all lines. Instead, please have your child wear Mondor dance tights (ballet pink or suntan beige) as indicated on the shoes and tights list. Where dance underwear is specified, we prefer full panties (micro fibre). Children's size tights will be available to purchase from the studio at a cost of $17 including taxes. Supply is limited. TIPS ON MAKING A BALLET BUN Recital hair, is a Ballet Bun, with all hair pulled straight back and gelled slick. All dancers need bangs gelled off their face unless directed differently by the class teacher. If you have never made a bun before here are some helpful tips for a low bun: Put the hair in a tight ponytail at the bottom of the hairline using a thin covered elastic. Spray gel works well to keep the bangs back and the look sleek. Wrap the ponytail around and secure with open "bun" pins and hairnet. This gives uniform shape and keeps all the pieces under control. If the ponytail is short and hair is layered it works to divide the ponytail in four sections and roll them under your finger and secure with pins prior to using the net. Use open pins to secure the hair in the net to the head. These pins work much better than closed pins. Finish with spray gel and hair spray. Hair should be secure enough not to come down during the dance routine. Hair too short for a bun needs to be off the face using gel. For your convenience hair nets and open pins may be purchased from the studio at a cost of $3.00.

Matinee Show Rehearsal Wednesday May 25, 2017 Location: Algonquin College Theatre All rehearsals and the recital take place at Algonquin College Theatre, 1385 Woodroffe Ave, Ottawa, K2G 1V8. Located in the Student s Commons Building at Algonquin College, just south of Woodroffe Ave. and Baseline Road. Parking is free in all parking lots after 5:00 and on Saturday. The row facing the Commons Building is always paid parking. If arriving before 5:00 you must pay for parking up until 5:00. Read signs carefully as tickets are common. Dress Rehearsal is very important to the success of your child s recital. Please be on time, traffic is an issue to arrive for 4:30-5:30, please give yourself extra time for driving and parking. We try our best to adhere strictly to the times listed on the Photo Day/Rehearsal schedule. Sometimes we do run behind schedule; we ask for your patience as we want to ensure all participating students are comfortable on stage and understand what is required. It may not be possible to wear tap shoes during the rehearsals, please make sure you bring another pair of dance shoes or socks to go over tights. Times listed are call times so please be on site ready to go. Dancers will be lining up in the hall two routines before their on stage time. Please note we will not be running competitive numbers during the Afternoon Rehearsals. Children may be taken home immediately after they have performed. It is important for everyone to arrive with hair & make-up done, ready to dance. Please arrive and be ready to perform by your appointed time. Rehearsal gives the students a chance to practice with the bright lights and full sound. It also gives the parents a chance to practice hair, makeup and costume(s). This practice run is important not only for the dancers but also for the backstage and tech crews. In order to run rehearsals in an efficient manner it is important to limit the number of people backstage. Only one parent will be allowed backstage with their dancer. Should you need to bring siblings you will be asked to wait in the lobby area and pick your dancer up after they are finished. Tights need to be in good condition and be proper dance tights. For your convenience we are selling children's tights at the studio for a cost of $17 including taxes. Shoes need to have all stickers removed. On With the Show

Saturday May 27, 2017 ~ Algonquin Theatre Afternoon Shows 2:00 p.m. At the recital on Saturday May 27, we ask that you arrive by 1:30 for the 2:00 show, and take your child(ren) to their assigned dressing room area and dress them for their first routine before you take your seat in the auditorium. For safety reasons, the same adult will be required to sign your child "in", and then "out" of their assigned change room. Change Rooms will be open 1 hour prior to the show, ( 1:00). Children must be supervised by their parents until volunteers take over 30 minutes before the show. We would like you to enjoy the show and we have therefore assigned change room helpers to look after the children. Please bring your child a healthy NUT FREE snack and some water. Please make snacks mess free as the children will be in costumes. It is also a good idea to bring a quiet activity for them if they are only in one routine. We need all groups to remain in the dressing rooms for the duration of the recital as everyone is in the finale. The afternoon show will run for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Parents will not be allowed back stage during the show unless previously arranged. If one parent comes to visit their child after they perform or to take them home early then we have all the other children looking for their parents. If you have concerns or questions about this please speak with Kathy. If your child has allergies please speak directly to the volunteer in charge of their group when you drop them off in the change room. IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL PERFORMANCES: Please note that for the safety of the students on stage and the comfort of the patrons at the recital, we are asking that no one takes flash photography or personal videos. We have a professional videographer on site. Costume Rental Return/Sign In: Please ensure that your child s costume rental is returned to the studio and signed back in during your child s class time, the week following the recital, from Monday, May 29 to Saturday, June 3. To assist us with sorting, cleaning and storing costumes, costume rentals must be returned during your child s class in which they were assigned. Please Note: If your child is in more than one class, we ask that you DO NOT return all of their costumes together, while it is easier for you, it is nightmare for us to organize. You must sign the costume back in or you will be billed for the price of a replacement costume. Costumes cannot just be dropped off at the studio without being properly signed in. For your convenience we have extended our office hours from May 29 to June 3, in order to assist you with costume rental returns. Thank-you in advance for your co-operation which assists us in being able to offer this valuable costume rental service, (one of the few in the city). RECITAL DVD ORDERING INFORMATION We are pleased to be working with a new, local, video company Bytowne Video Productions. Attached is an order form for a DVD. You may pre-order a DVD of the recital at the studio and/or at the rehearsals. Cost per show: $25.00 plus taxes (28.25).
