GAMEDAY CENTRAL Scouting Grand Canyon The Rams travel for their first road match of the season when they face off against the Antelopes Friday. Grand Canyon comes off a 3-2 overtime win versus Northern Arizona who they defeated for the first time in school history. The Antelopes had 13 shots in their first contest with seven of them being on goal. Key Antelopes Grand Canyon's Cassie Beckwith and Madison Cox each scored in regular time during the season opener, but it took a header from junior Kathryn Yancone to give the Antelopes the 3-2 victory. Grand Canyon's goalkeeper Blakely Fraasch played the entire match and made three saves. Series vs. Grand Canyon The Rams will face off against the Antelopes for the second meeting all-time. Grand Canyon defeated 1-0 in 2013 when CSU started its women's soccer program. The Rams soccer team has now been active for three years. RAMS NOTEBOOK Rams succeed vs. In-state foes The women's soccer program opened up the season last weekend, posting a 1-0-1 mark. The Rams opened the season with a 1-1 draw in the home opener vs. Colorado on Friday behind a goal in the eighth minute by senior forward Erika Bratschun and eight saves by junior goalkeeper Jesse McGinley. Sunday, the Rams captured a 1-0 neutral-site victory over Denver in the first matchup between the programs. CSU scored on a DU own goal in final minute of the first half when the Pioneers defender knocked in a great cross from Rams' freshman forward Kaija Ornes. McGinley added four more saves vs. DU. McGinley named primetime performer junior goalkeeper Jesse McGinley was named to the CollegeSoccer360.com list of Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll for Week 1 of the 2015 season. McGinley is one of three goalkeepers named to the 15-player list recognizing outstanding performances across the country in Week 1. She Recorded 12 saves the Rams' opening two matches of the 2015 campaign, helping her squad to the first unblemished weekend in the program's three-year history. McGinley tied a career high with eight saves in the Rams' 1-1 draw vs. Colorado, and her 12 total on the weekend are just one shy of her best consecutive-match total as a Ram. The Rams' shutout win vs. DU marked the fifth of McGinley's CSU career. She recorded shutouts in all four of CSU's wins during the 2014 season. Shutout victories 's 1-0 victory over Denver on Sunday marked the Rams' seventh victory in program history. Each of CSU's previous six wins were all shutouts, including the four recorded by goalkeeper Jesse McGinley in net for the Rams' last season. Bertana adds to record points total Senior forward Gianna Bertana, who entered the season with a program-record for career points (9 all coming last season) added to her total in the Rams' opener vs. Colorado. Bertana pushed her career total to 10 points with an assist of Erika Bratschun's goal vs. rival Colorado in the Rams' season opener. Noting the Rams' Schedule Friday's opener vs. CU was the first of eight home matches on the schedule in 2015. Besides the opener vs. CU, the Rams' have one other non-conference home matchup, Sept. 11 vs. Big 10 foe Northwestern. CSU's schedule also features 10 true road games, including non-conference matchups at Grand Canyon (Friday), at Saint Mary's, at Northern Colorado, at Nebraska Omaha, and at Creighton. In addition to CSU's neutral-site win on opening weekend vs. DU in Boulder, the Rams also have a neutral matchup scheduled vs. UC Irvine, in Moraga, Calif., as part of the Gael Classic hosted by Saint Mary's the first weekend in September. The Rams' Mountain West slate features six home tilts and five road contests, opening Sept. 25 at home vs. Fresno State, and culminating Oct. 30 with a home "Border War" matchup against the Wyoming Cowgirls. MW PRESEASON POLL was selected to finish 11th when the Mountain West revealed the preseason poll as voted on by the conference's 12 head coaches, on Aug. 17. The Rams, entering just their third season of competition, garnered 23 points and were selected to finish ahead of Nevada, just behind ninth-place Air Force (43) and 10th-place Fresno State (34).
