Endnotes 14 October 2011 microfilm no. 169, Reel 14. The news of the death of Hubert C. Bailey, 66 years of age, that occured at the home of his sonin-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. B. B. O'Mara at Biloxi, Miss on Thursday, May 18, 1939, was received here with genuine regret. He had been in ill health for the past six months. Mr. Bailey came to this section of the country about 35 years ago and with his brothers, entered into the turpentine business. Mr. Bailey was married to the late, Miss Etta Johnson, sister of Delos R. Johnson, of this town, to which union four children were born, three of whom survive, James Bailey of Holly Springs, Miss.; Mrs. B. P. Montegriff of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. B.B. O'Mara of Biloxi, and his aged mother, Mrs. H.C. Bailey and one sister, Mrs. Walter Green and two brothers, Milton Bailey of Camden, Ark., and Dumas Bailey, of Picayune, Miss. For the past several years Mr. Bailey had been manager of the Green Tung Oil Farm west of Franklinton. The body was brought to the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Colonel and Mrs. Walter Green Thursday night. Funeral services were held with his pastor, Rev. W.L. Compere, pastor of the Franklinton Baptist Church, officiating assisted by Rev. E. B. Chaney, Friday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment was made in the Ellis Cemetery. Many friends and relatives from New Orlenas, Baton Rouge, Hammond, Bogalusa and Picayune came to be present at the funeral. 24. He was returning home from Biloxi, Miss., where he had been with his father, Hubert Bailey, who is improving under hospital treatment there. 25. Funeral Held for Former Resident: Funeral Services for James Bailey, age 58, a former resident of Franklinton and a graduate of Franklinton High School, a class mate of Dr. T. C. W. Magee, were conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Dolphin Way Baptist Shurch in Mobile, Alabama. Interment was in Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile. Bailey, a well known man in Franklinton, died about 8:00 p.m. Monday night in a Mobile hospital where he had gone in preperation for a major operation scheduled for Wednesday morning. His death was unexpected. Bailey was a frequent visitor to Franklinton and was a nephwe of Mrs. D.R. Johnson, Sr., and the late Mrs Florence Green. Several friends and relatives from Franklinton attended the funeral services in Mobile Wednesday morning. -------------------------- When the message came concerning the critical illness of Mr. James Bailey Monday night, Mr. and Mrs A.G. Johnson and Mrs Delos R. Johnson left immediately for Mobile, Alabama. Among those joining them in Mobile on Wednesday, February eigghth for the initial rites were Mr. and Mrs. Delos R. Johnson, Jr., Mr. and Mrs A.I. Wilcombe, Mrs Heyward Green, Mrs Frank Reedy, Mr and Mrs Chester Green and Mr and Mrs John B. Green.
