MT. TRISHUL-I (7,120 M) EXPEDITION 2016 SOUTH CALCUTTA TREKKERS ASSOCIATION 14, CHAKRABERIA LANE, KOLKATA 700020 45B, PUDDAPUKUR ROAD, KOLKATA 700020 www.scta.in
Our Dream : The Mountain Trishul, "The trident of Lord Shiva" - being immensely popular among pilgrims, tourists, artists for centuries, this strikingly beautiful mountain, nevertheless, instills even a greater interest among the mountaineers. Integrated with the history of world mountaineering, by being the 1st peak over 7000m to have ever been climbed, in 1907 by the legendary explorer Dr. T.G. Longstaff, Trishul had since acquired the pride of many 'Firsts'. First peak over 7000m to have ever been climbed First use of supplementary oxygen in a major climb First ascent of the main summit not using the first-ascent route First major peak to be descended from summit on skis But those all were from the relatively easier Eastern side of the mountain, lying within the inner sanctuary of Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve. Since the closure of the reserve in 1982 Trishul has seen no activity until recently. The Western side of the peak, with its huge magnitude, sheer vertical wall, sharp and steep ridges, and severe weather condition, yielded only a very few attempts in recent years, that too without much success. News of two successful ascents by Indian Army was heard, but no details came into public awareness. Dearth of available information adds up with technical severity, to make this attempt an arduous and a very challenging one. Our Need : Your Support Needless to say, this herculean venture into unknown height involves a great deal of expense. Our organization is a tiny, voluntary initiative of a group of people who have few resources other than passion, courage and expertise to offer. Without your generous support and kind cooperation the venture can never be made possible. Why we need your help Non-commercial, non-profitable organization Members contribution only source of income Nominal help from Government (~5% of budget) With hearts full of dream, we look forward to your benevolent support
