The first year of improvement program focuses to conduct proper recording activity in each supply chain b. The recording system is conducted by institutions which assist the fisher groups in each location c. Fisher s understanding regarding to catch size, eco friendly fishing gear and better management practice d. Other fishery improvement activities are seen below:
No Activity Result 1 Forming groups of bivalves fisher in Kenjeran Beach, Surabaya a. Forming bivalves fishers in Madura Strait, particularly in Kenjeran Beach (Cumpat, Kejawan Lor and Nambangan Village) Surabaya and Sedati (Banjar Kemuning, Gisik Cemandi) Sidoarjo The group was formed on September 7th, 013 under the name of Sari Laut with 5-30 members from Sedati/Sidoarjo, Banjar Kemuning and Gisik Cemandi. This group has AD/ART and the drafting process was facilitated by KPI East Java in Gisik Cemandi, Sedati sub-district, Sidoarjo district Materials for Training of Sustainable Fisheries 1. Simulation of Sustainable Fisheries Vs Non-Sustainable Fisheries. Introduction of MSC to bivalves members 3. Socialization of post-harvest management and packaging by PT. Panda Lestari Research and Workshop regarding to habitat, ecology, biology and morphology of bivalves a. Drafting a protocol of data collection regarding to habitat, ecology, biology, morphology, bivalves (target species, retained species, ETP species, bycatch species), habitat and ecosystem with local university and Marine Fisheries Research Agency b. Collection of data landing by fishers in Sidoarjo and Surabaya (supporting logbook scheme and traceability) The workshop aims to draft protocol of data collection regarding to habitat, ecology, biology, morphology of bivalves. The workshop was held in Bapelkes Surabaya and attended by academics from Airlangga University, Hang Tuah Surabaya, Surabaya, Balitbang Surabaya and representatives of bivalves fishers on January 014. In the end of workshop, there was MoU signing for academics from Airlangga University who would conduct research on aspects of bivalves. Collection of data landing was done since November 013 until March 014 by fishers. c. Collection of data regarding to aspects of habitat, ecology, biology, morphology, bivalves (target species, retained species, ETP species, bycatch species), habitat and ecosystem d. Conducting workshop regarding to stock estimation with limited data (target species, retained species, ETP species, bycatch spesies) and ecosystem The workshop is an implementation of data collection protocol involving Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Airlangga University. Data collected so far are aspects of habitat, ecology, biology, morphology of bivalves in Sedati, Sidoarjo and Kenjeran. This applies observation method and contamination assessment is conducted by using processing bivalves product and bivalves satay producer. The result shows that the highest E-Coli contamination is found in boiled bivalves. Workshop on June 014 aims to show the condition of bivalves fishing activity in Sidoarjo and Surabaya based on the stock estimation using PSA method. Workshop was held in Utami Hotel Sidoarjo and attended by 9 participants who are fishers from Kenjeran, Sedati, BKP3 Sidoarjo, Surabaya
3 Drafting bivalves management plan a. Drafting bivalves management strategy (regarding to target species, retained species, ETP species, bycatch species, habitat and ecosystem) b. Consulting the draft (managing target species, retained species ETP species, bycatch species, habitat and ecosystem) at fishers level c. Consulting draft regarding to bivalve management (managing target species, retained species ETP species, bycatch species, habitat and ecosystem) at district/city level 4 Facilitating transaction between fisher group with the buyer and Sidoarjo, Airlangga University, Hang Tuah Surabaya, WWF-Indonesia and KPI of East Java. The workshop generates bivalves status in Surabaya from PSA study and drafts bivalve management strategy which is expected to be Village Regulation and Regional Regulation. The drafting is done in June 014 during the stock estimation workshop in Utami Hotel Sidoarjo. This aims to mantain the sustainability of bivalve fishery in Surabaya and disbenefit fishers, consumer and business player as well. Key points of this draft are: logbook, incentives, bivalve fishing regulation (size, amount, location and fishing gear) and further research (bivalves aquaculture and management of disposal) Consultation of the draft (managing target species, retained species ETP species, bycatch soecies, habitat and ecosystem) at fishers level is done during the stock estimation workshop. This draft is generated from FGD of 4 group consistiing of fisher, academic, WWF and related stakeholder. Participants in FGD are active and the result will later on conculted at district/city level. Consultation of the draft (managing target species, retained species ETP species, bycatch soecies, habitat and ecosystem) at fdictricy/city level will be conducted after Ramadhan month and Eid Al Adha on August-September 014 a. Forming trading scheme of bivalves catched by fisher The scheme refers to the sustainability of marine resources and fair trading. This group scheme is conducted on May 13th, 014 in the meeting b. Facilitating continual trading activity In the current situation, fisher group in Surabaya deliver bivalves catched by fisher in Sedati (Sari Laut) and mere fishers in Kenjeran to Fish n Blues. Once, they send 54 kg bivalves in JARNUS annual meeting, some was stored in FishnBlues and other was sold in Sustainable Seafood Festival in Bintaro. Types of bivalves sold were blood cockles and propellor arc.
