Resident Spotlight We would like to welcome Lois to our Lynridge Community by featuring her in our Spotlight this beautiful Fall month of October. Lois was born in Oklahoma, but got to Texas as quickly as possible! Lois was married to her spouse Al, for 39 years and had three children Doug, Connie, and David. She also has five grandchildren. Lois spent her career working at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and Texas Instruments. Lois also volunteered at the Garland Memorial Hospital for several years after her retirement. Lois has traveled to many countries in Europe, Hawaii, and most of the US states. Lois enjoys watching the Dallas Cowboy Games, Golf, Texas Ranger Games, America s Funniest Videos, Law & Order and NCIS. Lois is a wonderful animal lover and has always loved and enjoyed all types of pets such as dogs, horses, fish, skunks, bunnies, chicks and cats. Please give Lois a huge welcome when you see her. We are so happy to have her as our new neighbor. The Birth of the Jack O Lantern Have you ever wondered how the practice of turning a pumpkin into a scary jack-o -lantern started? Here s the story: Jack-o -lantern sounds Irish because it is. The flickering, carved pumpkin faces that animate the American Halloween derive from an old Irish custom of creating rustic lanterns from vegetables. The Irish child s typical Halloween flashlight was a hollowed-out turnip Sagora Senior Games or potato with a candle inside. When the Irish landed in America in the nineteenth century, they were quick to spot the possibilities in the pumpkin, and a new tradition was born. Happy We will be celebrating our annual Sagora Games in October this year, with a Fall theme. We hope that everyone, including families and friends will join us. We have some competitive people at our community, when it comes to games. Here is a list of the dates and games. They will also be listed on the AL Activity Calendar. All games will be held at 2:30pm. We hope to see you there! 10/22 Opening Ceremony - Scarecrow Scavenger Hunt 10/23 Pumpkin Bowling 10/24 Ghost Scramble & Spider Toss 10/25 Candy Bucket Throw with the Mom's of Murphy Club and their children will be joining us. 10/26 Crazy Eyeball Toss 10/29 Pumpkin Putt Putt 10/30 Candy Corn Rattle 10/31 Witches Ball - Witches Costume Contest 11/01 Harvest Moon Volleyball 11/02 Closing Medals Ceremony & Refreshments Memory Care Out and About Our Memory Care Family had a very busy September!! From cooler weather, to weekly lunch outings and fun and fellowship attending our Lynridge carnival. What a fun month!! With cooler temps and fall colors rolling in, it's a great time to think about the seasonings and aromas of autumn. Halloween and Thanksgiving are right around the corner, and your food deserves as much fall flavor as your festive decor. Here are 7 spices for fall that are perfect to get you in the seasonal spirit. Cinnamon Cinnamon is one of the most popular spices, both on this list and around the world. It is versatile enough to pair with both sweet and savory dishes. For example, try it fruit dishes like homemade fruit butters or pies, and sprinkle it sparingly in stew, casseroles and breads. Allspice Actually the dried and ground fruit of a West Indian tree, allspice is delicious in stews, roasts and some breads. A little goes a long way, so follow the recipe carefully and start with just a pinch or two in your own recipes. Cloves This aromatic spice is also very popular during the winter holiday season, and pairs well with many meats, fruits, desserts and more. For an inexpensive and festive fall air freshener, try making your own orange pomander balls with fresh oranges, cloves and spices. Organic.org has a tutorial so easy the kids can help! Nutmeg Nutmeg is a unique flavor and one that really complements and enhances baked dishes, sauces and desserts. It is also great with pudding, spinach, and squash, and is a prime flavoring ingredient in pumpkin dishes and eggnog. Nutmeg can purchased in ground form or bought whole and grated. Autumn Spices Pumpkin Spice Pumpkin spice, also called pumpkin pie spice, is practically synonymous with fall. Pumpkin spice isn't just for pies, though! Try it in all kinds of desserts and snacks for instant fall flavor, like cookies, cakes, muffins and even coffee and cocoa. Want it fresh? The Kitchn tells you how to make your own. Rosemary Rosemary is a savory spice with an intense herbal flavor that just begs to be paired with meat, tomato dishes and roasted veggies. Rosemary is reported to have health-boosting antioxidant properties, and is yummy used sparingly in herbal teas. Fresh rosemary is best, but dried can be nearly as flavorful. Saffron Saffron is an exotic spice that lends a rich yelloworange color and unique subtle flavor to many different dishes. If you are in the mood for creating a flavorful curry or colorful paella this fall, saffron is the right spice for your. This delicate spice can also be used in certain desserts.

Memory Care Spotlight "Betty McGregor" Loving Life at Lynridge A Walk in a Missionaries Shoes Growing up in Tripoli Iowa I was always surrounded by small town charm, love, and a relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus. I was raised in a time where church was not just a habit, but part of our existence. My family always made time for church. The only time we as kids were ever able to miss church was if we were running at both ends, if you know what I mean. Or if we were almost at deaths door then momma would pray non stop for healing and Jesus always answered my mommas prayers. Time passed and I married and had three beautiful daughters whom I am so proud of and also was a English teach for 10 years. But during this time, It was pressed upon my heart to be very involved in Missionary Work and to preach and teach what I had grown up on to people in all situations good and bad. I still love to preach God s word and do our devotion time with the other residents that live in my neighborhood. I also pray and thank God for the wonderful staff that help me daily! Im a bit older now and God has seen fit to let others do unto me as I had done unto them!! Giving out lots of unconditional love!!
