Tennessee went 7-5-6 in 2015, posting its fifth winning season in the past six years and 15th overall in program history. UT is 15-4-1 all-time in home openers and 14-5-1 all-time in season openers. Tennessee was unbeaten in non-conference play last season, going 4-0-3, including a 4-0-1 mark at home. The Vols last non-conference loss came at No. 2 Virginia on Sept. 12, 2014. The Vols gave up multiple goals on just five occasions last season and only surrendered one goal in their seven non-conference games. UT was one of the top defensive teams in the SEC last season, ranking second in goals allowed (18), GAA (0.93) and shutouts (9). The Vols finished tied for fourth in the SEC with 1.78 assists/game last season. UT returns eight of its top nine scorers from last season. Hannah Wilkinson, Tennessee s active leader in goals (22) and points (53), is set to return for her fifth season after missing all of last year with an injury. Wilkinson needs just three goals and 12 points to crack Tennessee s career top 10 list in both categories. Wilkinson was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List for the fourth consecutive season. TENNESSEE SOCCER SEASON OPENERS Tennessee is 8-0-1 in its last nine season openers, dating back to 2007. Freshman newcomers include Maddie Krejci, Erin Gilroy, Mary Alice Vignola, Claire Franks and Mady Hairston. Emily Egan, a transfer goalkeeper from Georgia Southern also joins the team Vignola (No. 36) and Gilroy (No. 128) were both ranked in Top Drawer Soccer s IMG Academy 150 list Krejci, Hairston, and Franks all saw action in UT s exhibition match vs. Clemson last Saturday night Egan started 16 games for the Eagles last season, making 53 saves and posting a 1.34 GAA WILKINSON RETURNS The Vols should receive a big boost offensively with the return of Hannah Wilkinson, the team s active leader in goals (22) and points (53) Wilkinson needs just three goals and 12 points to crack Tennessee s career top 10 list in both categories Wilkinson was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List for the fourth time. She was also named to the SEC Preseason Watch List and the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Top 100 players list (No. 84) Wilkinson started for New Zealand in all three of its games in this summer s Rio Olympics. TENNESSEE SOCCER 2015 SEASON IN REVIEW INDIVIDUAL HONORS CARLYN BALDWIN SEC Preseason Watch List KATIE COUSINS SEC All-Freshman Team SEC Preseason Watch List TDS Preseason Freshmen Best XI KATHRYN CULHANE CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team Despite losing several key players to injury early in the year, Tennessee got off to a hot start in 2015, beginning the season 5-0-3 thanks to solid defense and goalkeeping. However, the Vols struggled in conference play, finishing with a 3-5- 3 record in the SEC. The Big Orange finished the year with a 7-5-6 overall record, marking the fifth winning season in the past six years and 15th overall in program history. UT ended the season in a three-way tie for ninth in the SEC, but missed out on the conference tournament after losing a tiebreaker with Kentucky and Georgia. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Julie Eckel had a fantastic season to cap off an illustrious career, earning All-SEC first team honors. Eckel led the SEC with eight shutouts and became Tennessee s career leader in saves (335) and save percentage (.817). The Cordova, Tenn., native also finished her career as the program s all-time leader among goalkeepers in games played (81), games started (79) and minutes played (7,411:14). She also ranks second all-time in shutouts (31.4) and goals against average (0.91) on top of ranking third in wins with 44.
