Breeding Report From Sales Manager Gareth Smith Swiss Ace Opportunities at the NZB Ready To Run Sale. Westbury stallion Swiss Ace will be represented by 3 lots at the NZB Ready To Run Sale next month. One of these is part of the eight horse draft Westbury Stud will offer at the sale. Lot 102 in the catalogue is a chestnut colt by Swiss Ace out of the mare Political Princess (Desert Prince). She is a half sister to the triple G1 winner Landsighting (Greig) who was a high class galloper that won eight races, including the G1 QTC Stradbroke Handicap, the G1 STC George Ryder Stakes and the AJC Bill Ritchie Handicap. Political Princess is also the half-sister to the listed winner and Stakes placed Danzylum (Danzero), a 13 race winner that included victory in the VRC Chester Manifold Stakes, and placing s in the VRC Bobbie Lewis Handicap and the CF Orr Stakes. This is a family that has produced top class 1600m runners and this mating looks ideal for the strength and speed Swiss Ace will bring to the family. The colt will breeze up next week at Te Rapa and should give a good account of himself. Swiss Ace, who s oldest crop are just starting their three-year-old year, has had a great start to his stud career producing 7 individual winners from his 12 runners in New Zealand. These include the stakes placed three-year-old Passing Shot and recent impressive two-year-old winners, Warwrinka and Halleloojah, both from the successful Graeme and Debbie Rogerson stable. In Australia Swiss Ace has had Lady Andress and House of Hingis, both two-year-old fillies that were winners in South Australia and are just commencing their threeyear-old season. Singapore winner Clip The Ticket looks like a three-year-old to follow after his impressive run for second at his last start. With only three entries in the sale by Swiss Ace and given the performance of his stock on the track it looks like they could be well sought after. Pictured: Swiss Ace. Photo Credit: Lesley Warwick
Racing Report From Racing Co-ordinator Nicole Brown The good run for Swiss Ace continued on Wednesday when the juvenile galloper, Halleloojah (ex Poetic Music), produced a stylish win on debut for breeder and part-owner Gerry Harvey, as well as trainer and partowners Graeme and Debbie Rogerson. Watson Bloodstock presents several runners over the weekend including the regally bred Liten Prinsessa (Bernardini x Dawn Almighty), who kicked off her career today in strong fashion in the first at Tauranga for trainer Stephen Marsh, with victory in the maiden event over 1200m. The talented Champagne Rein (Captain Rio x Golden Sparkle) lines up in the 3YO event over 1200m at Rotorua on Saturday, although track conditions will have to remain as they are for the son of Captain Rio to start. Palace Talk (Street Cry x Doduo) is fresh up at Rotorua for trainer Shaune Ritchie, and a strong second placing on debut in her first preparation puts her right in contention for the maiden event over 1200m tomorrow. Watson Bloodstock will also be looking forward to the return of their Group 1 Easter Handicap star, Albany Reunion (Fastnet Rock x Secret Silence) who is a chance to resume at Ellerslie next weekend. Poster Girl Displays Potential The Postponed mare Poster Girl broke through for her first win at Woodville during the week and looks a mare with a future as she steps up in distance. Raced by the Blair Racing Trust, D W Butler, M G Curtis, A M B Green, W D Macdonald, Mrs L A Mathews & G K Ritson, Poster Girl has been handled very patiently by her Otaki trainer Howie Matthews. On the basis of her win at Woodville over the 1400m trip, her connections look likely to be rewarded for their patience as she progresses to a middle distance. It is quite timely to look back at the pedigree of Poster Girl with the Melbourne Cup now only 18 days away. Poster Girl is out of the Rock of Gibraltar mare Edie, who in turn is out of the Melbourne Cup winner and dual Group 1 winner Jezabeel, which emphasises the natural improvement that can be expected from Poster Girl from this point on. Jezabeel, of course, was trained by Brian Jenkins and captured both the Auckland Cup at Ellerslie in the hands of Opie Bosson, and the Melbourne Cup at Flemington under Chris Munce. In addition to her illustrious two-mile victories, Jezabeel also won the Listed Champagne Stakes at Ellerslie as a two-year-old, and finished second to Tie the Knot in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes at Caulfield also. At stud Jezabeel has not reached the heights she was able to achieve on the track, having produced 11 foals for 5 starters and 3 winners; but as is often the case, her daughters are now making a name for themselves as broodmares. Her first foal Eighth Wonder produced the stakes winner in Macau Gold Cup winner Wonder Mossman (by Mossman), and her second foal Living Hell is the dam of the stakes placed 2YO Faustus. Poster Girl has now recorded a win and five placings from her 11 starts and looks to have a bright future over ground. Pictured: Postponed. Photo Credit: Lesley Warwick
