Extensive road closures and diversions will be in place, which may cause delays. Please study the maps provided carefully and plan your journey well in advance. Our travel guide provides travel tips, including the various public transport options. Please note that there is no parking at the University of York or in the immediate vicinity. Accommodation York is packed with places to stay, from cosy guest houses to luxurious five star hotels, there is something to suit every budget. Even the most discerning of travellers will find something to suit them with York being home to all of the main international chains as well as designer boutique hotels and individual hostelries. To find out more about accommodation, browse Visit York at www.visityork.org/book Friends and Family Help your friends and family plan their day with our online spectator guide which will help them get around and ensure they don t miss out on what York and our event village has to offer whilst you are running. There will be regular buses travelling from the event village to the city centre, please visit www.runforall.com to see bus timetables. Race Day Kit You should have identified the running shoes you are going to wear on race day, which will give you plenty of time to wear them in. Make sure you have also worn your race day kit, including clothes for both warm and cold weather, on your training runs to ensure you are comfortable. If it s due to be a sunny day you may need a cap, sunglasses and sun protection. Gloves, warm layers and waterproofs to keep you warm at the start would be advisable if it is due to be cold and/or raining. Key Documents If you have booked any travel, parking or accommodation in advance, make sure you have printed any tickets or confirmation documents to keep with your race pack. Check the Forecast Keep an eye on the weather forecast (www.metoffice.gov.uk) in the run up to the event to ensure you are fully prepared and pack everything you might need. 2 3

The day before Race Number Please complete the reverse of your race number with the required safety information and pin it to the front of your T-shirt or vest with safety pins in all four corners. Make sure you write your name, emergency contact details and any medical information including medication you may be taking on the back of your number. If you have any conditions we need to be aware of, please mark a red cross clearly on the front top right hand corner of your race number. Just before the race Baggage The baggage store will be open from 7am. Please ensure that your baggage tag is securely fastened to your bag. Please do not bring any valuable items with you on race day. Any baggage is left at your own risk and the organisers shall not be held liable for any loss or damage. Only persons wearing an official race number will be allowed to deposit or collect bags. Allow sufficient time to arrive and deposit your bag at the baggage store. Make sure you are prepared with clothes to wear whilst waiting for the start. A local charity will collect any clothing left from the start area, therefore anything left at the start will not be returned at the end of the event. Changing Limited changing facilities will be available on campus at the Sports and Fitness Centre at the University of York. Please ensure that your baggage is deposited in the baggage store during the race and not left in the changing facilities. Further changing facilities are also available a short distance away at York Sport, for those wishing to ease aches and pains with a short post-run swim in the pool, which is open until 4pm. Toilets Toilets will be located at regular intervals on your way to the start, including two areas immediately 4 Timing Strip This is attached to your race number and becomes activated and records your official time when you cross the mats at the start and finish. Important Information Affiliation Please do not swap or pass on your race number we will not know who to contact in an emergency if you do. Any runners doing so will be disqualified. The Yorkshire Marathon is licensed under the UK Athletics Road Race/Multi Terrain Rules for Competition and operates in accordance with the licence requirements. UKA Licence No: 2018-32988. Baggage Tag If you are planning on using the event baggage store, please ensure your baggage tag is securely attached to your bag ready for race day. This will also be attached to your race number and is a tear off strip. Race Timing The race will be led by police bikes until the 5 mile marker, at which point a timing vehicle with a mounted digital clock will lead The Yorkshire 10 Mile to the finish. There will also be a digital clock on the finish gantry. Official times will be recorded for each runner completing 10 Mile. Double check the weather forecast So you know what to expect and can add anything you might need to your kit bag (www.metoffice.gov.uk). before the assembly area. Toilets are also located after the finish line. Assembly Assembly for the 10 Mile race will take place from 9.45am once marathon runners have departed; timing flags will be positioned adjacent to the marathon start line. Your race number will indicate the assembly zone you should use at the start. Please ensure you are in the correct zone. Your warm-up and safety briefing will take place in this location before race marshals will lead you to the 10 Mile start line ahead of race start at 10.15am. Signage and event marshals will be in place to direct and assist you. Please respect other runners and stand in the appropriate area of the assembly area for your predicted pace to ensure those looking to achieve a personal best are not held up in crowds and having to push past. Starting The Race EVENT TIMETABLE 6.30am Please be patient once the start horn has gone and enjoy the atmosphere as you make your way to the start line. Be patient, don t start too fast. Focus on running your mile splits as relaxed and comfortably as possible; you should feel easy for the first half, your race really starts in the second half. If you experience low spells, stay positive and keep moving forwards; tough moments pass. Deliver what you ve done in your training and long runs. 5

TRAVEL GUIDE On route Please obey the instructions of race marshals and police on the route. Most of the route will be traffic-free, although vehicles may at times be using the same road but separated from runners by cones. Gold markers will be prominently displayed every mile. Clear signage will also be positioned around the route in the lead up to and at key facilities. Please be aware a marathon and a relay are also taking place on the day. You may be passed by fresher runners undertaking their leg of the relay or on the latter section of the route as the leading marathon runners near the finish. In the interests of good sportsmanship, please respect those runners and their event. If you wish to withdraw from the race, please try to make your way to one of the clearly marked retiree points or a first aid point on route, and give your race number to a race marshal. If necessary, transport will be arranged to return you to the event village as soon as possible. Race Support Roads will be closed and race support in place after the start. A sweeper vehicle will travel the route. You will have the option to retire from the race and board the vehicle should you need to. Aftershokz is the official headphone provider of the Yorkshire Marathon Series. Aftershokz sit comfortably in front of the ear and use bone conduction to deliver sound through the cheekbones to your inner ear. This means you can enjoy your music and still hear everything around you including marshal instructions, emergency vehicles and fellow competitors. Yorkshire 10 Mile runners can benefit from a special discount. See www.runforall.com for more details. Drink Station Runners are advised to consider the effects of dehydration and drink fluids to compensate. Bottled water has been kindly provided by Asda Foundation and will be located at three locations on course; 3 miles, just after 5 miles and then at 8 miles. Warning signs will be prominently sited approximately 200m ahead of stations and bins located at intervals after each drink station. Last bins at each station will also be indicated. Please ensure you deposit all bottles and litter in the bins provided on route. First Aid Medical personnel will provide assistance at regular intervals around the route. A number of medical stations will be positioned on course. It is important to remember that several thousand people will be travelling to the event at a time when a number of major roads will be closed and diversions in place. Make sure you plan your journey in advance and pre-book travel and parking options where required. Leave plenty of time for your journey on the morning to allow you to enjoy your Yorkshire 10 Mile experience. Spectators can find advice about the best places to catch a glimpse of their friends and family and the areas to avoid due to access restrictions from the spectator section of our website at www.runforall.com. A full list of road closures is also available to download. Travel by car Please note: there is no event parking at the University of York or in the immediate vicinity. We are pleased to offer the following travel solutions: Park & Run at Elvington Airfield A dedicated Yorkshire Marathon Park & Run service will be operational on race day. Runners and spectators arriving by car can take advantage of this convenient service, which will be available by pre-sale from our website. The Park & Run service includes easy, quick and convenient parking as well as return transport between the car parks and the heart of the event village. Park & Run tickets must be booked online prior to the event, please visit: www.runforall.com Drop-Off Locations Two designated drop-off points will be available on race day. Please note: this facility is purely for drop-off and collection only. Please follow directional signage to access the drop-off locations and make arrangements for collection in advance as waiting will not be permitted. West Loop A19 / Main Street (Fulford) Broadway Heslington Lane; for participants travelling from the city centre and/or west of the city. East Loop Church Lane Innovation Way University Road Field Lane for participants travelling from the A64 and/ or east of the city. Please see the event village map for further details. Please note, there is no through access via these loops. Travel BY TRAIN York is on the UK s main east coast line and travelling by train is both fast and easy. Visit www.nationalrail.co.uk for more information about services to York. Weekend Break York offers plenty to keep you busy and entertained so why not travel to York by train in the days leading up to the event and take advantage of its many attractions and accommodation opportunities. Travel BY BUS Shuttle Bus If you re parking, getting dropped off or staying in York, you can take advantage of the city centre shuttle bus service, which will be operational between York Railway Station and the event village at the University of York. Runners will be given priority to board buses before 8.30am. Shuttle bus tickets are available to purchase from the bus driver on the day. Local Bus Services Spectators can take advantage of the regular route 66 bus service from the city centre to the event village. For further information, please visit: www.runforall.com. 6 7

AT THE FINISH Drinks Station Medical Facilities Catering Results Bottled water, kindly provided by Asda Foundation and Erdinger Alkoholfrei, will be available at the finish. Please keep moving through the finish funnel to the drinks station and take only one bottle of water and a cup of Erdinger Alkoholfrei. As well as the medical staff on the course, there will be a combination of first aid points and roaming first aiders around the event village. Please see the event village map for the locations of first aid and make yourself familiar with the whereabouts of these facilities. The University of York will be providing a range of catering options after your Yorkshire 10 Mile experience. Results will be available online at: www.runforall.com after you have finished. Participants who registered a mobile phone number when entering will also receive their individual chip time by text message. Goody Bag You will receive your goody bag, including your souvenir T-shirt and medal in the finish area. Foil blankets will also be available. Please follow the signage and instructions from marshals as you pass through the finish funnel to collect your goody bag with the T-shirt size you selected when entering the event - your T-shirt size is shown on your race number. Goody bags are provided to all finishers; volunteers will only be able to offer one goody bag please don t take or ask for a second bag to give to anyone else. Please note medals will be presented to you separately in the finish area. Do The Y Photos Our title sponsors will be on hand to congratulate you and offer the opportunity to Do The Y with your medal at our celebratory photo backdrop. Medal Engraving Asda Foundation has also kindly provided a free medal engraving service for all finishers which will be available in the event village and in the Exhibition Centre. 10 Reclaiming Baggage You are advised to make your way to the baggage store to reclaim your property before meeting up with your friends and family. Please collect any left baggage as soon as possible after finishing to ensure you can enjoy all the event village has to offer in comfort and to avoid queuing later in the day. Family & Friends Meeting Point There will be two official meeting points, clearly marked with flags. These will present the first opportunity to be reacquainted with your friends and family. The first meeting point will be immediately outside the Exhibition Centre and the second in the event village. Please choose a meeting point and let your loved ones know your anticipated finish time. Massage There will be post-race massage in the Exhibition Centre. Outside catering will also be available close to the spectator zone near the big screen, as well as the charity village, where you can grab a little something whilst chatting to our partner charities and taking in the entertainment. Entertainment Having sampled the sights and sounds of a variety of entertainment and cheer stations around the route, you can look forward to the carnival atmosphere continuing throughout the event village. Event Village The event village should be a must-do on your race day checklist. Here, you ll find a host of activities, entertainment and well-deserved refreshments. There ll be lots to see and do and it s a great place to catch up with friends and family too. The official charity partners will be rewarding their runners with a host of goodies and perhaps even a post-race massage or two! Don t forget this area is not just for those running for one of the official partner charities; everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the atmosphere and host of great facilities. Race Photographs The team from www.marathon-photos.com hope to photograph every competitor along the course and at the finish, so remember to smile as you cross the finish line! Photographs can be purchased online after the event. Details will be available at: www.runforall.com. Erdinger At the finish, you ll be offered a chilled cup of naturally brewed Erdinger Alkoholfrei as you make your way along the finish chute.
