Our award-winning cancer care includes nationallyrecognized Centers of Excellence as well as one of the most comprehensive lists of support services available anywhere. As part of its commitment to providing state-of-the-art care, St. Jude has embarked on an initiative to replace its current mammography units with 3D mammography (or digital tomosynthesis) machines, the most advanced breast cancer screening tool available. The new technology uses highly focused 3D imaging to examine fine details in the breast like never before, significantly improving the detection of cancer at its earliest stages. This benefit is especially important for women with dense breast tissue (about 40 50% of women), where smaller cancers can be missed through traditional mammography. Anyone who has been affected by cancer knows early detection is the key to successful treatment and survival. St. Jude invites the community to support the 3D mammography project which will help save lives and give patients the greatest chance for winning the battle with cancer. To date, we have raised $2.4 million of our $4.1 million goal which fully covers the cost of three machines.
