River Cats rock Colorado's Sox with 13-run 7th Sacramento sets franchise record in 17-7 win After scoring 18 runs total in their last four-game series, the Sacramento River Cats (13-20) nearly eclipsed that number in one inning today as they defeated the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (20-9) 17-7. After a grand slam in the sixth inning, the Sky Sox took a 6-3 lead and the momentum into the seventh. From there, it was all Sacramento however, as the River Cats put up a franchise-high 13 runs. Sacramento sent 17 men to the plate in their superb seventh frame, racking up eight hits, five of which went for extra base hits. Right fielder Austin Slater smacked two doubles in the historic inning, knocking in four runs and scored two himself. Along with their eight hits in the inning, Sacramento hitters walked four times, were hit by a pitch and went through two Sky Sox relievers. In total, five different River Cats hitters had multi-rbi games with Orlando Calixte and Slater each driving in four. Calixte collected five hits, the first five-hit game by a Sacramento hitter this season, and had his second multi-home run game of the year. Sacramento also set a season-high with nine extra-base hits. The River Cats will go for their third straight win tomorrow night as they send right-hander Tyler Beede (2-1, 3.38) to the bump. The Sky Sox will counter with right-hander Paolo Espino (3-0, 2.94). First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. (PT) and the game can be heard live online at rivercats.com and on the air on ESPN 1320. FedEx: Catcher Tim Federowicz continued his offensive tear of late, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored all nine of his RBI have come in the last six games the veteran backstop now leads the team with a.400 batting average (20-for-50).

Frigid Five-Run First Inning Sinks Squirrels Rocky Beginning to Game After Delayed Start Bowie, MD - The Bowie Baysox (18-16) posted five runs in the first inning and held on to defeat the Flying Squirrels (13-19) by a final of 5-3 on Thursday night at Prince George's Stadium. The game was delayed at the start nearly an hour due to rain and was played in frigid conditions. Richmond starting pitcher Matt Lujan suffered the loss but lasted six innings despite the early offensive attack. Game two of the series from Bowie will be Friday night at 6:35 p.m. Following the 55-minute rain delay, Hunter Cole put the Squirrels on the board in the first inning by launching his first home run of the year off of Bowie starter David Hess. With one out, Cole delivered ano-doubt shot over the left center field wall for a 1-0 lead. Hess retired the next two batters and needed only nine pitches to finish the first inning. The Baysox countered with an extensive five-run bottom of the first inning to grab a 5-1 lead. The scoring began with one out and a runner on first base. Facing the lefty Lujan, Austin Wynns launched his third home run of the season, a line drive shot over the left center field wall for a 2-1 lead. Bowie added three more runs on a total of seven hits to pull ahead 5-1. Lujan used 31 pitches in the first inning but still managed to pitch deep into the game. Richmond had a few opportunities to pull closer in the early innings. The Squirrels loaded the bases against Hess in the second but could not score. C.J. Hinojosa lined out to left field to get Hess out of trouble and keep Bowie ahead, 5-1. The lengthy second forced Hess' pitch count to 44 after just two innings. He lasted 5 2/3 innings in the outing to earn the win. Lujan settled in after the first inning bombardment and worked around a single in the second and a twoout double in the third. The left turned in the game's first 1-2-3 frame in the fourth and finished strong with six innings worked. Lujan (1-2) suffered the loss while allowing five runs - all in the first - on ten hits. He walked one and struck out five, using 85 pitches in the start. The Squirrels chipped away at the lead and Hess with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Hess loaded the bases in the sixth and was removed for Jesus Liranzo. Eliezer Zambrano then slashed a single to left and C.J. Hinojosa worked a walk to make it a 5-3 contest. Liranzo finished off the inning to close out the line for Hess. The righty earned the win by allowing three runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings. He threw 114 pitches and walked four. Liranzo returned for the seventh inning and Ryan Meisinger pitched the eighth and ninth for the save. Richmond's Jose Flores turned in two a flawless innings in relief to back Lujan. The Squirrels continue their seven game road trip on Friday in Bowie. Richmond will attempt to end their two-game slide by tossing RHP Cory Taylor against Bowie LHP Tanner Scott. First pitch is 6:35p.m.

Connolly Pitches Giants To 3-2 Victory San Jose salvages final game of series with Rancho Cucamonga SAN JOSE, CA - Mike Connolly pitched eight strong innings to lead the San Jose Giants to a 3-2 victory over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Thursday evening at Municipal Stadium. Connolly's start was the longest outing of the season by a San Jose starter as the Giants (15-19) avoided the series sweep with the narrow win. Daniel Carbonell (1-for-3, HR, RBI) and Johneshwy Fargas (1-for-2, HR, RBI) smacked solo home runs in the second and third innings respectively while San Jose went ahead for good in the contest on a Quakes error in the bottom of the fifth. Connolly (3-3) earned the win after surrendering just two unearned runs over his masterful eight-inning performance. The right-hander allowed only three hits, walked two and struck out five. Thursday's outing lowered Connolly's season ERA to 1.78 - third in the California League. Ryan Halstead worked a 1-2-3 top of the ninth to pick-up his sixth save of the season. The Giants enjoyed their first lead of the series when Carbonell launched a solo home run to left in the bottom of the second to put San Jose in front by a 1-0 margin. The home run was Carbonell's fourth of the season. An inning later, Fargas stepped to the plate and lined a solo homer to left - his second round-tripper of the year - to extend the lead to 2-0. Meanwhile, Connolly faced the minimum nine hitters over the first three innings to begin his start. Erick Mejia led off the game with a single, but was promptly erased on a double play. Then in the second, Luke Raley singled to leadoff, but Connolly used another double play to keep the Quakes off the scoreboard. The Giants starter then breezed through a 1-2-3 top of the third. Rancho Cucamonga though tied the game scoring twice in the top of the fourth against Connolly without the benefit of a hit. A walk to Mejia started the frame before DJ Peters walked with one out. Raley followed by grounding into a fielder's choice with Peters forced out at second. Then with Drew Jackson at the plate, a passed ball on catcher Matt Winn allowed Mejia to score the Quakes' first run of the night. Moments later, Jackson hit a grounder to second that was initially mishandled by Dillon Dobson. Dobson then made a hurried throw to first, but the ball sailed over the head of first baseman Aramis Garcia and into foul territory. Dobson was charged with two errors on the play as Raley scored to tie the game 2-2. Connolly though prevented further damage when he retired the next hitter, Omar Estevez, on a routine fly out to right. San Jose would reclaim the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth. After the first two batters of the inning were retired, Winn reached on an infield single to shortstop. Fargas then walked to put runners on first and second. Jalen Miller was up next and he hit a slow roller up the first base line. Rancho Cucamonga pitcher Caleb Ferguson fielded the ball, but his flip to first skipped past first baseman Ibandel Isabel and down the right field line. Miller was credited with a single on the play while the throwing error allowed Winn to score giving the Giants a 3-2 lead. The Quakes would then manage just one more baserunner for the remainder of the game. In the top of the sixth, Will Smith singled with one out, but Peters followed by grounding into a 5-4-3 double play - the third double play induced by Connolly. Connolly then needed just nine pitches to get through a

perfect top of the seventh. Connolly finished his outing with a 1-2-3 eighth inning registering consecutive strikeouts of Brandon Montgomery and Ariel Sandoval to end the frame. Connolly retired 12 out of the last 13 batters he faced. With the score still 3-2, Halstead entered from the bullpen to begin the top of the ninth and the San Jose closer threw just 11 pitches (nine strikes) in a perfect inning to collect the save. Halstead struck out Mejia and Smith back-to-back to start the inning before Peters grounded out to end the game. Ferguson (1-2) was saddled with the loss after yielding three runs (two earned) on five hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out six. Notes * San Jose out-hit Rancho Cucamonga 6-3. * The South Division-leading Quakes still won two out of three games in a series and are 5-2 against the Giants this season. * San Jose has still not been swept in a series this year. * Connolly threw 91 pitches (58 strikes) during his outing. He recorded 11 groundouts. * Miller (2-for-4) was the only Giants player to finish with a multi-hit game. * Carbonell has hit three home runs over his last four games. * San Jose improved to 13-4 this season when scoring first in a game (2-15 when opponent scores first). * Halstead is 6-for-6 in save opportunities this year. * The final game time was two hours and three minutes - The Giants' quickest nine-inning game of the season (previous low - 2:29). On Deck The Giants continue their homestand on Friday evening with the opener of a four-game series against the Inland Empire 66ers. First pitch at Municipal Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Heath Slatton (1-2, 12.89 ERA) is slated to start on the mound for San Jose while Inland Empire is expected to counter with Jesus Castillo (0-0, 1.93 ERA).
