Despite a 36-minute delay at the start of the game due to a passing thunderstorm, the Hofstra- Notre Dame series close game tradition continued as the teams played their sixth one-goal game in the 10 game

series. The Irish jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one quarter on two goals by Dan Berger and a man-up goal from Matt Howell. Femminella scored his 10th of the year off a pass from Chris Unterstein to tie the game at 1-1 with 5:47 to play in the period before Berger scored unanswered goals for the 3-1 lead. The second period was all Hofstra as the Pride scored six times, including two man-up goals, and outshot the Irish 18-7 in the quarter. Femminella notched his second of the game 1:04 into the second off a short pass from Mike Morrison (2 assists). Berger notched his hat trick with his 14th of the year 48 seconds later, from Howell, to boost the Notre Dame lead to 4-2. But Hofstra scored three straight goals in 2:37 as Femminella started the run with goals two minutes apart off assists from Ryan Miller (3 assists). Joe Kostolansky gave Hofstra a 5-4 lead 37 seconds later, with 9:11 to play in the half, with an unassisted goal. But Owen Mulford tallied his sixth of the year 38 seconds later off a pass from Patrick Walsh (2 assists) to knot the score at five. But Femminella scored his career-best fifth and sixth of the game in the last 5:59 to give the Pride a 7-5 lead at halftime. Notre Dame came out strong in the second half, scoring three times in the first 8:58 to regain the lead 8-7. Kostolansky would tie the game for Hofstra with his second of the game and seventh of the season with 3:20 to play in the third quarter. Defense was the order for the fourth quarter as the two teams split 22 ground balls and Hofstra turned away a man-down situation. But Femminella broke the deadlock with 7:22 to play. Chris Unterstein came around the left side behind the Irish cage and fed Femminella for a 10-yard blast that beat Stewart Crosland. The Pride defense, behind freshman goalie Matt Southard's three saves in the quarter and 11 in the contest, thwarted the Notre Dame attack the rest of the way. HOFSTRA S LAST GAME MARCH 20, 2004 at PRINCETON: The number six-ranked Princeton Tigers scored the game s first three goals and never looked back in posting a 10-5 victory over the #14 ranked Hofstra Pride on Saturday afternoon at the Class of 1952 Stadium. Jason Doneger tallied the first of his three goals almost three minutes into the contest to give the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish. Princeton added two more goals over the next 2:38 before the Pride got on the board with an unassisted goal from John Keysor at the 5:45 mark of the first quarter. The two goal deficit for Hofstra would be the smallest of the day as the Tigers would score two straight over the next 16:36 to open a 5-1 advantage following Doneger s second goal of the game. Tim Treubig would pull Hofstra within three at half as he scored off an assist from Keysor with 2:31 left before halftime. Ryan Boyle scored 1:14 into the third quarter to give Princeton its first four goal lead of the game, 6-2. Hofstra would look to make a run and Steven Wax forced a Tiger turnover at midfield and fed Chris Unterstein for his first goal of the season to pull the Pride within three, 6-3 with 13:24 remaining. That would be as close as Hofstra would get the remainder of the contest though, as Doneger notched his third and Whitney Hayes scored his second of the game to push the advantage up to five with 9:34 left in the third quarter. The two teams would each tally two goals in the final 18:35 as the Tigers evened the all-time series with the Pride at nine and have won the last seven meetings. Keysor finished the day with two goals and an assist for the Pride, while Matthew Southard made 10 saves in net for Hofstra. Brett Moyer led Hofstra with six ground balls and Len Panarelli added four and was 10-19 on faceoffs. THREE MIDDIES DO ALL THE SCORING VS. JHU Ryan Vilar, John Orsen and Tim Treubig did all the scoring for Hofstra against number 1 Johns Hopkins on March 13. Vilar had three goals and two assists, Orsen had two goals and an assist and Treubig had a goal and an assist against the Blue Jays. VILAR Junior middie Ryan Vilar posted a career-high three goals and two assists for five points in the loss to Johns Hopkins on March 13. He leads the team in scoring with nine goals and six assists. Vilar came up big for the Pride in the second half against Loyola on March 6. Vilar scored three unanswered goals to turn a 7-5 deficit into an 8-7 lead, and then assisted on the game-winning goal by Ryan Lucas. He added a goal and an assist against Binghamton. For his efforts against Loyola and Binghamton Vilar was named the CAA Player of the Week on March 9. GOALIE MATT SOUTHARD Sophomore goalie Matt Southard has recorded career high saves on consecutive weekends. He recorded a career-high 18 saves in Hofstra s 9-8 victory over Loyola on March 6. Against Johns Hopkins, Southard posted 19 saves against the Blue Jays. Southard s previous high in saves coming into the 2004 season was 17 in the 2003 CAA semifinal against Villanova. He had 10 saves at Princeton on March 20. MILLER Sophomore Ryan Miller recorded a career-high four goals and five points against Binghamton on March 8. Ryan is following in the footsteps of his older brother Blake, who tallied 22 goals and 12 assists in 1995, and 36 goals and 17 assists in 1996 for Hofstra. Ryan posted eight goals and seven assists in 2003. Miller had three assists against Notre Dame and two goals at Army last season. He posted two assists against Cornell on February 28. He has four goals and three assists in five games this season. IANUCCI Freshman attackman Athan Ianucci also posted a career-best with five points on three goals and two assists against Binghamton on March 8. He had a goal and an assist against the Greyhounds of Loyola. For his efforts in the two Hofstra victories he was named the CAA Rookie of the Week for March 9. Ianucci had an impressive college debut on February 28 th with one goal and three assists against Cornell. LUCAS Sophomore attackman Ryan Lucas recorded his second career game-winning goal against Loyola with a man-up tally with 4:25 to play. He recorded a career-high seven ground balls against the Greyhounds. Lucas tied his career highs in goals and points with two goals and three points against Cornell on February 28. He tallied 12 goals and seven assists last season. TREUBIG Sophomore Tim Treubig was named the CAA Co- Player of the Week on March 1st after scoring a careerhigh four goals in the season opener against Cornell. He added three goals against Binghamton on March 8. Treubig had 11 goals and four assists in 2003. He has 10 goals already in 2004. Treubig, who scored the game-winner in overtime against Sacred Heart, and the tying and game-winning goals against Duke last year, was named the CAA s Co- Rookie of the Week on April 28, 2003. He added two goals in the CAA semifinal victory over Villanova and one goal against Towson in the title game. MOYER Sophomore defender Brett Moyer picked up six ground balls against both Johns Hopkins and Princeton, tying his career high. He was voted the CAA s 2003 Co-Rookie of the Year by the league s coaches. Moyer was a member of the U.S. National Under 19 team that captured the Gold Medal in the World Championships last summer.

ZUCHELLI Senior defender Brian Zuchelli returned to start for the Pride against Cornell in the season opener after suffering a knee injury at Massachusetts in the NCAA Tournament last May. Zuchelli underwent surgery in June and has rehabbed the knee since. He was cleared to play in January. He has eight ground balls this season. UNLUCKY AGAINST THE TOP 6 Including the Princeton loss, the Pride is 1-10 in their last 11 games against teams that were ranked sixth or better, dating back to the end of the 1999 season. The only Pride win over a Top Six team during that time came in 2001 when Hofstra edged Notre Dame 11-10 in overtime. Hofstra is 6-22 against opponents ranked sixth or better since 1993. Points: 2 3/8/04 vs. Binghamton 2004 HOFSTRA GAME SUMMARIES GAME 1 - FEBRUARY 28, 2004 vs. #12 CORNELL: Sophomore midfielder Joe Boulukos scored five goals and senior attackman Andrew Collins added a goal and four assists to lead the 12 th -ranked Big Red of Cornell (1-0) to a 14-12 victory over the 11 th -ranked Pride of Hofstra (0-1) at James M. Shuart Stadium. The Big Red used a big third quarter in which they scored seven of the first eight goals, to erase an 8-6 deficit and then held on for the victory. Sophomore middie Tim Treubig scored four goals while classmate John Keysor added three goals to lead the Pride. Cornell held the upper hand early taking a 2-0 lead after 2:11 on goals by juniors Sean Greenhalgh and Justin Redd. But the young Hofstra team, that features 30 players with one year or less of Division I experience, played the Big Red even the rest of the quarter, exchanging goals, and trailed 5-3 after one period. The Pride then went on a 5-0 run in the second quarter as Treubig scored his third goal of the game 39 seconds into the period, and freshman Athan Ianucci scored his first college goal 1:30 later to tie the contest at 5-5. Treubig would score his fourth of the game off a pass from Ianucci 1:05 later to give the Pride their first lead of the game. Junior middie Ryan Vilar scored a man-up goal off a pass from Ianucci with 7:27 to play in the half, and Vilar would feed Ryan Lucas for the Pride s fifth straight goal at the 3:51 mark to give Hofstra an 8-5 lead. But Boulukos would score his first goal of the season off a pass from Justin Redd to end the Pride run, close the scoring in the half with Cornell trailing 8-6, and more importantly, starting a Big Red spurt of their own. Like Hofstra had done in the second period, Cornell scored twice in the first 2:10 of the period as Greenhalgh and Boulukos scored unassisted goals to tie the game at 8-8. Boulukos, the second year player from Huntington, Long Island, scored his second of the game 2:30 later. Greenhalgh added his fourth of the game with 7:09 to play in the quarter, and Boulukos would scored Cornell s sixth unanswered goal with 6:20 to play in the third to give the Big Red an 11-8 lead. Keysor would stop the Cornell run two minutes later off a pass from Ryan Vilar but Boulukos and Brian Clayton scored 1:10 apart to boost the Big Red lead to 13-9. Keysor would score two more goals in the final 1:15 of the quarter to close the gap to 13-11 after three periods, and freshman Tom Brewer scored his first college 1:27 into the fourth quarter to close to within one at 13-12. But Andrew Collins scored his first goal of the season with 8:31 to play to give Cornell a two-goal cushion and the Big Red held on the rest of the way for the victory. I am proud of the way that we have progressed offensively the past two weeks, Hofstra Head Coach John Danowski said. We played hard and didn t give up against a tough Cornell team. I think the difference was that we didn t make the plays that we needed to down the stretch and Cornell did. Cornell freshman goalie Matt McMonagle recorded 12 saves in his debut while Hofstra sophomore Matt Southard posted 11 saves in the Pride cage, The Pride outshot Cornell 43-28 but were crushed at the face-off X, losing 20 of 28 draws. Shuart Stadium.The victory snapped the Pride's ninegame losing streak to the Greyhounds and improved Hofstra's record on the season to 1-1. Loyola fell to 1-1. After Pride sophomore middie Tim Treubig opened the scoring just 44 seconds into the contest, the Greyhounds jumped on Hofstra, dominating face-offs and seemingly scoring at will while building a 4-1 lead after just 2:30. To be fair, two of Loyola's goals were caused by failed Hofstra clears deep in the Pride zone. But the Pride did not fold and battled back on goals by sophomore middies John Orsen and John Keysor and freshman attackman Athan Ianucci to tie the game at 4-4 after one period. The Greyhounds won all nine face-offs in the period and picked up 18 ground balls but Hofstra sophomore goalie Matt Southard made five saves to keep the Pride in the contest. Loyola regained the lead in the second quarter as two-time All-American Stephen Brundage scored his third goal of the season 2:13 into the period. Another miscue in the Pride defensive zone

led to Craig Georgalas' unassisted goal with 7:37 to play in the half that gave the Greyhounds a 6-4 lead at halftime. After a scoreless 8:35 of the third quarter, Hofstra came alive. Freshman long-stick middie Julian Watts scored his first college goal and brought Hofstra back to within one at 6-5 with an unassisted tally. But freshman Matt Cassalia scored his third goal of the year just 1:20 later to boost the Loyola lead to 7-5. Hofstra's Ryan Vilar then took over. The junior middie scored three consecutive unassisted goals, including two in the first 4:13 of the fourth quarter, to give the Pride an 8-7 lead. Brundage tied the game at 8-8 with his second goal of the game and fourth of the season just two minutes later. With 5:24 to play in regulation, Greyhound sophomore defender Michael Graham was whistled off for a slashing penalty.on the man-up, Vilar found Lucas, who beat Loyola goalie Michael Fretwell (7 saves), for his third goal of the year. Pride goalie Matt Southard, who had five of his 18 saves in the fourth quarter, and the Hofstra defense stymied the Greyhounds the rest of the way. The Pride's last victory over Loyola, before Saturday, came in 1993 when Hofstra defeated the thenfifth-ranked Greyhounds 13-12 at Shuart Stadium. The Pride, who extended their winning streak over unranked opponents to 25, improve to 2-1 on the season. The Bearcats of Binghamton fall to 1-1. Sophomore middie Ryan Miller had four goals and one assist, freshman attackman Athan Ianucci posted three goals and two assists, and sophomore Tim Treubig added three goals to lead the Pride of Hofstra to their second straight victory. Sophomore attackman Phil Cavallo had three goals and senior Chris Healy added two goals and one assist to pace Binghamton. Three sophomores gave Hofstra a 3-0 lead just 2:56 into the game. Pride sophomore middie Rob Bonaguro opened the scoring with his first goal of the year just 1:04 into the contest off a pass from freshman Tom Brewer. Sophomore Tim Treubig took a pass from freshman Athan Ianucci 24 seconds later and beat Bearcat goalie Kevin McKeown for his sixth goal of the season and a 2-0 lead. Binghamton sophomore Phil Cavallo put the Bearcats on the board with his fourth goal of the year from Chris Healy with 11:19 to play in the first. But Ryan Miller scored his second of the game and the season off a pass from Ryan Lucas to boost the Pride lead to 4-1. Binghamton freshman Matt McNamara scored his first of the season from Matt Osborne with 6:28 to play to close the deficit to 4-2. But Hofstra scored the next four goals, including one 2:13 into the second period to go up 8-4. First, sophomore middie John Keysor scored his fifth of the year with 4:45 to play. Barrie finished with four goals while Matt Rewkowski had two goals and one assist to lead the Blue Jays. Hofstra was led by sophomore middie Ryan Vilar with career-highs of three goals and two assists while classmate John Orsen added two goals and one assist. Hofstra sophomore goalie Matt Southard recorded a career high 19 saves. Barrie opened the scoring just 54 seconds into the contest with a scoop shot five yards in front of Pride goalie Matt Southard. Sophomore middie Greg Peyser boosted the lead to 2-0 five minutes later after taking a pass from Peter LeSueur and firing a high shot into the goal from 11 yards out. Senior long-stick middie Corey Harned made it 3-0 for the Blue Jays just 10 seconds later, scooping up the face-off ground ball, attacking the goal and beating Southard from seven yards out. Barrie scored his second of the game and eighth of the season from a sharp angle on the left side of the Hofstra cage. Barrie then completed the first quarter hat-trick with 5:23 to play, picking up a rebound of a Southard save and beating the Pride goalie from up close. The Pride got on the board as junior middie Ryan Vilar s man-up bounce shot from 15 yards out beat Hopkins sophomore goalie Scott Smith (3 saves). Blue Jays freshman attackman Jake Byrne ended the first quarter scoring by beating a Hofstra middie around the Pride cage and bouncing a low shot to the far side of the Southard. It was Byrne s second goal of the year. The Pride came alive in the second quarter scoring three straight to cut the deficit to 6-4. First, John Orsen took a pass from Ryan Vilar 5:16 into the second quarter, turned and fired from seven yards out for his second goal of the season. Sophomore middie Tim Treubig scored his ninth goal of the year with just under five minutes to play in the half, off a pass from Vilar, and Vilar scored his second of the game and seventh of the season, off a pass from Orsen with 3:07 remaining to close to within two. But Hopkins senior attackman Conor Ford scored right off the faceoff, his 11th goal of the season, just six seconds later to give the Blue Jays a 7-4 at halftime. In the third quarter, Hopkins senior middie Kevin Boland scored an unassisted goal just 1:22 into the period to boost the lead to 8-4. But Vilar scored his third of the game 3:31 later, picking up a ground ball and firing a 15-yard bounce shot into Blue Jays cage. From there it was all Hopkins as the Blue Jays scored five straight goals, including two by Matt Rewkowski, his seventh and eighth of the season, to cruise to victory. Jason Doneger tallied the first of his three goals almost three minutes

into the contest to give the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish. Princeton added two more goals over the next 2:38 before the Pride got on the board with an unassisted goal from John Keysor at the 5:45 mark of the first quarter. The two goal deficit for Hofstra would be the smallest of the day as the Tigers would score two straight over the next 16:36 to open a 5-1 advantage following Doneger s second goal of the game. Tim Treubig would pull Hofstra within three at half as he scored off an assist from Keysor with 2:31 left before halftime. Ryan Boyle scored 1:14 into the third quarter to give Princeton its first four goal lead of the game, 6-2. Hofstra would look to make a run and Steven Wax forced a Tiger turnover at midfield and fed Chris Unterstein for his first goal of the season to pull the Pride within three, 6-3 with 13:24 remaining. That would be as close as Hofstra would get the remainder of the contest though, as Doneger notched his third and Whitney Hayes scored his second of the game to push the advantage up to five with 9:34 left in the third quarter. The two teams would each tally two goals in the final 18:35 as the Tigers evened the alltime series with the Pride at nine and have won the last seven meetings. Keysor finished the day with two goals and an assist for the Pride, while Matthew Southard made 10 saves in net for Hofstra. Brett Moyer led Hofstra with six ground balls and Len Panarelli added four and was 10-19 on face-offs.
