DALLAS 99S DECEMBER 2017 Congrats Beth Polcari! Our Dallas 99s sister has received her Southwest Wings! Beth worked at Southwest Airlines in the Rapid Rewards Department as a writer during 9-11. It was then that she decided to quit her job and go to flight school. Her lifelong dream was to fly, but her path took her a different way. She engaged in the arduous task of building time and experience. Naively, she thought she d be back at Southwest in five years. It took 15! She flew all sorts of jobs: flight instructed, flew Part 135 and Part 91 in small jets, Hawkers and Citations, among other jobs. During hard times, on and off over the years, she supplemented her income working as a substitute teacher. Later, she spent a year in Afghanistan flying turbo props. Then, back to the states to fly ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) missions for a defense contractor. That job allowed her to fly/work with her brother, which was an absolute blast! When that job went away, the aviation branch of that company dissolved, and she went back to work in turbo props (King Air 350) flying Part 135 for Gama Aviation/Wheels UP. Finally, Beth is back at Southwest as a First Officer after earning her wings. Congratulations Beth! We are are so very proud of you as you are an inspiration to all of us! Janny Strickland inherits Santa Collection Recently, Janny Strickland inherited over 3,800 Santa figurines from her late mother. Janny decided to put them all on display for this Christmas and invited the Chapter to come enjoy the collection. Her santas come from all over and are sorted into various groups. Each one catalogued and numbered. Very few duplicates exist. Janny was even featured in the morning Dallas News showing off her collection! After the holiday season, Janny is hoping to re-home the collection so that they may continue to be displayed and enjoyed by many. Pictured is Janny showing off one of her airplane santas from the transportation group. Please opt in for Electronic Voting!!! The deadline is December 31, 2017. Voting electronically is much less expensive for the organization than mailing paper ballots which costs approximately $3.00 each with printing, postage and mailing. With over 4,700 members getting paper ballots, International will be spending over $14,000 for the 2018 election unless we all sign up for online voting. You can opt in at: https://www.ninety-nines.org/members/votingoptinout.htm 5
