RULES OF PLAY All play is governed by the USTA Rules of Tennis and The Code" and the USTA League Tennis Regulations. The USTA Point Penalty System will be in effect. USTA certified umpires will be roving the courts. FORMAT Two singles, Three doubles A minimum of four (4) team members who are listed on the final roster must be available and eligible to compete. Two sets using regular scoring; set tiebreak (first to 7 by 2) at six-all. Match Tiebreak (first to 10 by 2) in lieu of third set. The Coman Tiebreak Procedure will be used. Change ends after the first point and then every four points thereafter. Five (5) minute warm-up including serves You are allowed 20 seconds between points and 90 seconds at the changeover. However, after the first game of each set and during a tiebreak, play shall be continuous and the players shall change ends without a rest period. At the conclusion of each set (regardless of score), there shall be a set break of 120 seconds. The tournament committee may designate alternative scoring and change of surface in case of rain or other delay. Players may be charged a small fee for indoor backup. In the event of a tie the standing in each division will be determined by applying the following criteria in the order listed until the tie is broken: 1) Most points won 2) Most individual matches won 3) Winner of head to head match MATCH TIMES Match times are estimates based on court availability. Matches may be officially called (and will be if courts are available) up to 30 minutes early; lateness penalties will be applied accordingly. CHECK-IN TIME All players MUST report 30 minutes before scheduled to play. The captain only should inform the tournament desk that all players are present. Lineups are due thirty minutes prior to start of match. KNOWN DEFAULTS A minimum of four team members who were on the final roster of their local league must be available and eligible to compete at area championships and above. In the event a position is to be defaulted, the opposing captain(s) will be notified and may adjust his/her line-up. REPORTING SCORES When a match is completed, ONE REPRESENTATIVE from EACH DOUBLES team must report back to the tournament desk to fill out the scorecard. Winner returns used balls. Scores will not count until all appropriate players have signed the scorecard and balls are returned. At the conclusion of each round, both captains must report and sign match card. 5

LEVEL OF PLAY DISQUALIFICATION Computer-rated players are not subject to dynamic disqualification (C or B rating types). Players with rating types: A, S, M, D, T are subject to disqualification. A player will be disqualified if he/she receives three ratings at the disqualification level using the dynamic NTRP system. Matches will be entered into the computer when completed and calculations will take place. If a player is disqualified, all matches played by that player will become losses for the disqualified player and wins for his opponent. NTRP grievances may be filed but the grievance will not be heard until the championships are over. The results will stand as played. TOURNAMENT BULLETIN BOARDS Two locations: Marriott Regency Mercer County Park A bulletin board will be set at these locations. Please check these boards for important information, messages, rain instructions, etc. AWARDS Winner and Finalist awards will be presented at the completion of play to each player who participated in the Sectional Championships. If desired, additional awards may be purchased by the captains for players who did not play a match at the Championships. IN THE EVENT OF RAIN Rain invariably causes delays. Matches are not shifted from outdoor to indoor sites until the referee concludes that outdoor play cannot be resumed within a reasonable period of time. Just packing up gear and moving to another site starts a loss of time. There will always be a loss of available courts as it is impossible to have an equal number of indoor courts. Therefore, you should be prepared for the following: 1) Matches being delayed 2) Having to wait on-site for further instructions 3) Matches being postponed until the following day 4) Possible shift to no-ad scoring or pro-sets 5) Possible shift to a different court surface 6) Divisions and teams being split between sites 7) Committing themselves to the championships for the entire weekend, including being ready for evening play 8) Players may be charged a small fee HOT WEATHER All athletes should drink water before, during and after events. If you wait until you are thirsty to drink, you have waited too long. Drink 2 or three cups of fluid PRIOR to play. Drinking up to 20 ounces of water or sport drink 30 minutes before a match can help in avoiding heat disorders. Take water with you on the court and drink frequently (i.e. at every changeover.) After your match, drink large quantities of fluids. Fresh fruit and fruit juices are an excellent source of electrolytes, with bananas and melons a particularly good source of potassium. 6

MATCH ASSIGNMENTS Note: Schedule is tentative and subject to change. All court times are estimates based on court availability. Line-ups must be presented 30 minutes before scheduled match. Matches may be officially called up to 30 minutes early (and will be if courts are available) and lateness penalties will be applied accordingly.
