TOURNAMENT INFORMATION Tournament Sites Tournament Headquarters will be located at the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch. Tournament Desks will be located at each site. Team captains are asked to check in at least 30 minutes prior to each scheduled match at the designated site. Please be aware that matches may be played earlier when courts are available, and it is the responsibility of players and their team captains to be ready to play when their matches are called. Please be sure to bring water jugs. Water will be available on court at both Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch and Kapalua Tennis Garden. Ice will also be available at both sites, however, please keep in mind that supply is limited. We strongly recommend that you fill your jugs with ice prior to arriving to the site(s). Tournament Play Tournament play will take place at the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch and Kapalua Tennis Garden. The format will be round robin. Matches will begin on Friday morning. Tournament desks will open at 7:30am. TOURNAMENT RULES OF PLAY Regulations The USTA Rules of Tennis and The Code will be observed throughout this event. The USTA/HPS League Tennis Regulations will govern the event. Tennis Attire All players are asked to wear appropriate tennis attire when playing their match(es). Inappropriate attire includes sports bras. T-shirts are acceptable. Team Format-Women's Singles & Doubles 2 singles & 3 doubles positions (3.0-4.5); 1 singles and 2 doubles (2.5) Wheelchair Rules The wheelchair tennis player is allowed two bounces of the ball. The player must return the ball before it hits the ground a third time. The second bounce can be either in or out of the court boundaries. The wheelchair is considered part of the body and all applicable rules, which apply to a player's body, shall apply to the wheelchair. Warm-up and Default A five (5) minute warm-up period, including practice serves, shall be observed throughout the event. The Point Penalty System, including a 15-minute default period, shall be observed throughout the event. Competition Format A team may play up to three (3) matches per day. Best of two tie-break sets with regular scoring and a Match Tie-break, if required, in lieu of a third set (Match Tie-break first to 10 by 2). A Set Break of 120 seconds shall be taken at the end of each set, including the second set of a split set. At the conclusion of each match, the players from both teams must return to the tournament desk to return balls, report/confirm scores and receive information on later matches. All tie breaks will be played utilizing the Coman Tie Break procedure. At the conclusion of each team match, captains of both teams must report to the tournament desk to confirm scores and sign the scorecard. Captains who do not confirm their scores before their next team match or within 15 minutes of their last team match of the championship forfeit the right to do so. The order in which matches will be placed on the courts will be 1 st singles followed by 2 nd singles, 1st doubles, 2nd doubles, then 3 rd doubles. The Head/Site Referee may alter this order for just cause. Scoring Regular scoring is utilized throughout the championships. One point for each court won. The team with the majority of points shall be the winner of the Team Match. In the event of a tie, the tie shall be broken by the first of the following procedures that does so: 1. Individual Matches. Winner of the most individual matches in the entire competition. 2. Sets. Loser of the fewest number of sets. 3. Games. Loser of the fewest number of games. 4. Head-to-Head. Winner of head-to head match.

Coaching Coaching is not permitted at any time during a match that uses the Match Tie-break in lieu of a third set. Line-up Please submit team line-up forms to the Tournament Desk 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time of the match. Team captains are asked to comply with this request. Once submitted, line-ups cannot be changed without approval of the Head/Site Referee. Matches may be started prior to the scheduled start time if courts are available. Cell Phones Players who take their cell phones onto the court MUST have them turned off. Referee The Referee is an official who exercises jurisdiction over more than one court. His/her duty is similar to those of a Chair Umpire and include but are not limited to the following: Ensuring that assigned courts are ready for play Enforcing the warm-up time and Point Penalty System for lateness. Resolving scoring disputes Overruling line calls and calling foot faults when he/she is in direct observation of the courts Controlling spectators Strictly enforcing Code Violations and other ethical play violations. (Flagrant and/or repeated offenses may result in disqualification of players from the Championship.) Monitoring player court absences (bathroom breaks) and all medical timeouts Team captains and players are encouraged to seek the assistance of the Referee and/or Tournament Director to help resolve problems that may occur with regards to the competition. Court Monitors Enforce warm-up time Enforce 120-second time for Set Break Available for player assistance i.e., locate referee Ensure players vacate courts at completion of match. (Players are asked to vacate their courts as soon as the match is over. Your cooperation is appreciated.) Referees and court monitors can be identified by their uniforms and/or orange vests. Medical Time-out A referee should be contacted immediately if a medical time-out is needed. Medical condition: Medical condition includes, but is not limited to, an injury, illness, and heat related conditions or cramping. Medical time-out: A medical time-out consists of evaluation time as determined by the referee plus a maximum of three minutes treatment time. Penalty: If more than 15 minutes elapse between the time an official is notified of the medical condition and resumption of play (re-warm-up, if any), the player shall be subject to the Point Penalty System. Bleeding: A medical time-out shall be called whenever a player is bleeding externally. Limitation on medical time-outs for heat-related conditions and cramping: Only one medical time-out shall be permitted for heat related conditions and cramping in any match, even if the heat related condition or cramping occurs in different parts of the body. Delays In the event of rain or other conditions which prevent or delay scheduled play, other alternative scoring methods that are compatible with the USTA NTRP program may be implemented and matches may need to be re-scheduled to include evening play. Individual and Team Forfeits/Inter-Island Flights Please review the match schedule and make your flight arrangements accordingly. If a team elects not to complete an individual match in order to catch a flight, that match will be considered a default, and the default score of 6-0, 6-0 will be entered for the nondefaulting team. If a team forfeits an entire team match, then all matches of that team played or to be played, shall be null and void. If all teams in contention for the Championship have already played the forfeiting team in good faith, the matches stand as played. Every effort is made by the Championship Committee to complete matches as early as is reasonable on the last day of the championship. Cancellation of the Tournament If the championship, or part of the championship, is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, the championship will not be rescheduled. Explanation of the Match Tie-Break Procedures In a match where players split sets, the Match tie-break in lieu of a third set (first to 10 by 2 ) shall be played and scored in the following manner: The tie-break shall be played according to the current RULES OF TENNIS and TOURNAMENT REGULATIONS with the following exceptions: (1) In a doubles match, partners may change sides of court for service return just as they would be allowed in a third set. Once the change is made, they will continue to play that side of the court for the remainder of the tie-break. (2) In a doubles match, partners may change order of service just as they would be allowed in a third set. Once the change in order of serve is made, they will continue to serve in that order throughout the remainder of the tie-break. The Coman Tie Break procedure shall be observed for a Match tie-break. Continuous Play After the first game of each set, play shall be continuous, and the players shall change ends without a rest period. Players are permitted 90 seconds to change ends and resume play for other changeovers during a set. Set Break A Set Break of a maximum of 120 seconds shall be taken at the conclusion of any set including the 2 nd set in a split set. No coaching allowed during the Set Break. Set Tie-Break The Set tie-break, first to 7 by 2 shall be used in the first or second set at six-games all. Scoring At championship competition, the scorecard for a split set match shall be recorded in the following manner, e.g., 6-4, 3-6, 1-0. The winning team should be circled. The winner of the third set shall be credited with a set won and a game won in accordance with USTA League Tennis Regulations.

The loser of the third set shall be credited with a set lost and a game lost in accordance with USTA League Tennis Regulations. Should the Procedures in the Event of a Tie go to GAMES, only the actual number of games played will be counted. Example: With a score of 6-4, 4-6, 1-0, the winner shall be recorded with 10 games lost and the loser shall be recorded with 11 games lost. Number of Matches Scheduled and Rest Events using the Match tie-break may schedule no more than three matches per day per team. Players shall be offered a rest period of 60 minutes between matches. Note: for players participating at more than one level during a section championship, no time accommodation is provided for matches played at different levels. All captains and players are reminded that the entire schedule (draw) is done at random. Captains are asked to inform the Tournament Referee or Tournament Director as soon as possible if their teams will be defaulting a match or matches.
